After checking with the Search button that no such topic already existed in the new column, I thought I'd bring this to the attention of Escapists. It seems Britain will eventually bring the doom of mankind:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/11/skynet_takes_control/

According to this article, we're going to have a network of armed UAV Reaper craft, whose video feeds will be supplied by a network called Skynet.
Really, Ministry of Defence? Really? You made a bunch of unmanned armed bombardment drones and will control them through a network called Skynet? There's making references, and then there's toy with fate. Which one is it? We'll have to see.

Yes. It is indeed a slippery slope from a network of partially scripted, partially human controlled reconnaissance and airstrike drones to a sentient supercomputer bent on destroying humanity.

The sarcasm is strong in this one.

Besides, if anyone will kill us all with robots it's certainly not going to be the Americans. Probably the Japanese, and because these are British robots, they will probably moan about their pay and go on strike. Genocide is too hard.

:S This is scary. It feels like we're going to, in a very near future, abondon our humanity and replace it with these bots to supervise us. I'm terrified
Ah shit... There's only two ways humans being looked after robots can end. One is they exterminate/harvest us, or everyone's going to end up like the fat people in Wall-E.

According to the Old Testament, we were left alone and couldn't obey a simple instruction. Since, all we've done is kill each other? I'm all for these robots, if it is actually a true and not copy-pasted from The Onion. If they turn bad, we'll finally have a reason to stop gutting each other. If they finish our race off, good, something else will put our planet to better use.

Yes after all my country (USA) has been through, we will fall to the armies of sex robots (and run away cars) from Japan.

The good news is (if Jack Thompson's views of games turning people into mindless killing machines is correct) I have been training for this moment for most of my adult life.

Now the only question is;

Health bars or rechargeing health system/cover based or straight up FPS

Or, you know, they perform their functions normally, suffering from occasional programming and hardware glitches that are prevented from causing major problems by hardcoded failsafes and are quickly corrected by a 24/7 research and maintainance team, the existence of which would be a pretty obvious necessity to anyone who would develop such an AI.

gotta love how everyone is mentioning the us and japan when this is the uk we are actually talking about.
Im from the UK, and I still don't fnd it threatening. Much like everything else we build, the robot will probably fall to pieces as soon as it attempts to do something more than turning itself on.

Beh.. Those 3,6 billions must be of much better use than creating assault bots like those in Supreme Commander :p

And if it does manage to become self aware, if it's anything like us then its self deprication will be so strong that any thought process will probably be followed by "what's the point? I'll just mess it up anyway."

Movies have corrupted the minds of people. If robots really take over the world, I'll gladly stand up in front of what's left of the world and admit I'm wrong. Until then, I don't see it happening
