Well if Americans couldn't do it some other powerful country had to. I'll see what happens and if it falls to pieces like Daystar said then I'll laugh but if we're in trouble my friends and I will fight.

Even if this system doesn't take over the world, why would you choose to name it 'Skynet'?

I'm quite sure they just did it for the lulz.

I mean, I'm pretty sure they know what SkyNet is, they just want to fuck around I bet.

I doubt the seriousness of your sources, but the idea makes my stomach turn.

Soon before you know it, you'll be hearing a LOT of terminator references in REAL LIFE!

Hahaha, be funny [ish] to see how this plays out. Woe betide the irony that it does become independent and hostile to us....
Woe betide the irony? Sweet Jesus.

People, the greatest threat to the human race is and always will be the human race.

If Echelon never achieved sentience neither will this. I prefer the Fallout Skynet to Helena Bonham Carter's retarded program anyway. One. Bullet. Applied directly to Kyle Reese's brain. I just solved your problem, supercomputer. The probably just did it to sound scary. Movies from the eighties are big in the Arab world, so more than a few of the guys these drones are targeting have seen Terminator. Can you imagine the reaction if they shoot one down, and find Skynet printed on the side? That is psychological warfare right there.

Ahahahhahhah, oh I love it when software companies developing AI let their geeks name their projects XD Maybe the CEOs should watch Wargames, Terminator and The Matrix for a rundown over the future of the human race thank to them XD

Skynet integrated military control system, Cyberdyne and its obsession with robots and its HAL suit, that story where the first US armed land bot targeted the nearest US soldier as a target - it all begins to add up to Asimov's nightmare. It just makes it all the worse that it's the military spearheading this research, so there's not even the three laws to protect us - killing humans is a base function, not a base exclusion!

I'm gonna sleep well tonight :D

Ah shit... There's only two ways humans being looked after robots can end. One is they exterminate/harvest us, or everyone's going to end up like the fat people in Wall-E.
Both. They'll fatten us up, and *then* harvest us. The worst part is, when we're dreaming in the Matrix they've created for us, it'll be at that point in our history where everything is a publicity stunt for Dante's Inferno.

According to the Old Testament, we were left alone and couldn't obey a simple instruction. Since, all we've done is kill each other? I'm all for these robots, if it is actually a true and not copy-pasted from The Onion. If they turn bad, we'll finally have a reason to stop gutting each other. If they finish our race off, good, something else will put our planet to better use.
A tad melodramatic...

Anyway, the guy who created/named this program was probably pissing himself laughing when he typed the name "Skynet".

I for one accept our new metallic overlords.

Gotta hand it to them, though. It's good to know there are geeks in the military.

Oh no, just because they referenced a movie about the apocalypse, we're all going to die!

The drones ARE controlled, just remotely.
Think of it as a big remote controlled plane, it saves weight and materials not having to accommodate a human and it saves a potential casualty if it's a dangerous mission.

Yes. It is indeed a slippery slope from a network of partially scripted, partially human controlled reconnaissance and airstrike drones to a sentient supercomputer bent on destroying humanity.
The sarcasm is strong in this one.

Besides, if anyone will kill us all with robots it's certainly not going to be the Americans. Probably the Japanese, and because these are British robots, they will probably moan about their pay and go on strike. Genocide is too hard.
Come on, man... Brits dont do "genocide". We will spy on you... and release films about how terrible our spies are, to throw them off the trail of how good our spies are... mostly anyway. But we wont murder and entire race... unless they screw with our tea supplies!

Lets just say, America, you got lucky... not many people could destroy that much tea and get away with it... which you did! >:|

If it wasn't for the whole 'saving Europe from Napoleon single handedly' thing, we could have easily spared the forces to destroy their silly uprising.

There's a big difference between a closed combat network named something intimidating versus a complicated intertwined open control network of all the weapons on the planet (which would be dumb because there's a thing called Hackers in the universe)

People would probably start poo-pooing the Source Engine if it was named or renamed CthulhuOperator.
