Skyrim, no question. The only way I'll ever play Modern Warfare 3 is maybe playing through the singeplayer campaign if my brother gets it for his 360. The last Call of Duty game I was really interested in was Call of Duty 4. On the FPS front, I'm far more interested in Battlefield 3.

I'm surprised people are allowing themselves to get hyped up over MW3. I mean it might not be a bad game necessarily but I very much doubt it's offering anything new.

The procedure seems to be that people play a new CoD game, are disappointed, and then play the previous rendition a lot more when they realise all the idiots have stuck with the newer rendition. I'm sure Black Ops will be all the rage once the 12 year olds have all migrated to MW3.

So TES 5 is a brand new game, but MW 3 is a rehash of a tired old series?
What you fail to realize is that it is not MW 3, but rather CoD 8! (And that's if you don't count the console exclusive CoD Finest Hour and CoD2 Big Red One, or any of the hand-held editions).

Combine this with the fact that the average wait time for TES games is on the order of several years, versus the ~one year limit on CoD games .... Yeah. That stuff gets old real quick.
I'm not failing to realise anything. The MW series is totally seperate from the WWII titles and Black Ops, made solely by Infinity Ward instead of the collaborations between IW and Treyarch that make up the combined WWII series. And (just as an aside) if you include all the Elder Scrolls games that have been made we're on TES 10.

Look, I'm really interested to see what both games offer. For immersing myself in another world I'm really looking forward to Skyrim. For hooning around with my mates with a few beers I'm really looking forward to MW3. They both bring different things to the table and I was merely trying to make a point about all the knee-jerk CoD bashing that's going on in this thread by people who are (for some reason) trying to compare the gaming experiences of two very different games.

Skyrim for me, easily - Morrowind was a case of "what the...?" and Oblivion was good fun, whereas CoD hasn't been worth playing since the second one and the halcyon days where it knew a modicum of restraint.

Skyrim. Perhaps a poll is in order?

Honestly I've yet to see a MW3 preferance so far o_O?

I'd rather give my money to the company that not only TRIES to make sequels that are different, but EXCELS at it

Skyrim 100%

Yeah, like the general consensus appears to be... couldn't care less about MW3, Skyrim will be a day-one purchase and will likely consume most of my time come November.

High fantasy bores me to tears, I can't stand it. MW3 any day. Give me a kalashnikov and some russkis over some elves and magic staffs, in fact if possible give me a kalashnikov and some elves so I can get some payback for those godawfull lord of the rings films. I guess Skyrim looks pretty good if that's what you're into, but it's not for me.

Skyrim. I'm not fussed about another brown shooter with a progressively stupid plot. Unless they use this one to bring out over-the-top hi-tech weapons, theorizing on what the U.S. Military could be hiding under their belts for such an apocalyptic occasion, then I'll get it. That, however, would be vaguely imaginative, which I don't usually expect from games like this.

Why ask this question on the Escapist? Most people here are too elitist to "dirty" themselves with a Call of Duty game.

Me personally Ill probably buy Skyrim, but Modern Warfare 3 is also a definate buy
This isn't elitism. Skyrim has had a 5 year development cycle, while MW3 is just the same 1 year development money grab. Hating on clearly sub-par crap is not elitism.
People don't know what Elite means I think. Politicians misuse it all the time too. People seem to have the same problem with the word "entitlement" too.

As for which one I'll get. I'm leaving it up to my wife because I'm not really interested in either at this point. I think she'll pick MW3 to play with her friends and because they all work in one of the locations from the game.
She does like Bethesda games but we both think they're a bit unstable on the consoles and the PC version will be a port from the console version (apparently), which for some might mean the console version will be better but to me means that both versions will be a complete mess.
So I find myself surprised to be saying I hope she picks MW3.
I'll eventually get Skyrim for the PC after modders fix it up.

i never got into The Elder Scrolls, and CoD is only good with friends and buckets of cash to spend on live so it looks like another trip into my imagination with MINECRAFT!

BF3 on PC; Skyrim on my PS3. My wife will actually play Skyrim so while she's hack'n and slash'n I can be fragging away on the computer. MW3 can eat the smeared dog crap off my boot.

I'm gonna go with the minority and say I'm going to be buying MW3 and NOT Skyrim. Oblivion bored me to tears, so really expecting more of the same. And yes I know this can be said about the Call of Duty franchise, but know what, dont care. I love the COD games and I'm going to continue to support them.

TL;DR: I like COD, Elder Scrolls is boring. Already plopped my pre-order down on MW3.

I'll just get them both (have them on pre-order) and see in November which one I fancy playing first. Probably Skyrim.
