Skyrim just isn't very well made. They just through all their ideas into a pile and left it at that. Most of the dungeons are the same. The quests aren't worth doing. Exploration gets you nowhere. The npcs are like robots; they seemingly have no interest in what they're saying. The combat is awful. I could go on, but you get the point.
I looked forward to exploring in Skyrim, but I just found the same stuff copy and pasted all over the map. Some different environments would've been nice, other than just snowy mountains and forests.
Because that giant swamp, and grassy plains with little trees in it didn't exist?

I had fun until I beat the main questline which was why I put if off for as long as I could. i enjoyed Oblivion more but I wasn't as good at gaming back then.

I'm just hoping Bethesda have done anything about the linear dungeons and crap quest by the time Fallout 4 rolls around. I enjoyed Skyrim for a time but for me Fallout 3 and New Vegas are much more my cup of tea, and I can't wait to see a wasteland in the new engine.
Uhh Obsidian is doing wasteland not Bethesda, and Obsidian doesn't have the rights to use Bethesda's creation engine.

Also Obsidian made New Vegas, not Bethesda.

Why can seemingly no one understand that Bethesda =/= Obsidian?
Haha I mean the environment in the next fallout will be a wasteland. I get that Obsidian is a different company, that's why New Vegas wasn't a bastardisation of the fallout world like Fallout 3.

I was so hyped for Skyrim a couple months before it came out. I had played and really enjoyed elder scrolls 4 as well as fallout 3.I even had it preloaded on steam for launch day and played it at midnight. I had a major skyrim weekend that week and got to 25-30 hours and beat the game. Ever since beating the game every time I try to play and do side quests I am underwhelmed and bored with in 10-15 minutes. Ive tried many mods they don't seem to help at all either, what could be the problem?

Edit: I just hear a lot about people who still play and was wondering if that's the norm.
I've actually had the same experience, it's really weird.

I played it for quite a few hours in the first two weeks that it was out and like others have said it wore me out. You've really got to pace yourself if you want to enjoy this game all the way to the end.

(not that there is one)

New Vegas, man. It's like a Bethesda game where they remembered to include the game part. Things in that game aren't a homogeneous leveled blob of meh.

Never got far enough to be bored or enraptured by the game. I fell through the level geometry and then it autosaved. "Endearingly glitchy" my ass, the thing barely worked and then destroyed my save file about 5 hours in. I haven't gone back.

That's because Black Isle.

I found Skyrim boring shortly after completing it, been away from it for about 5 months now and I really got back into it. Rolled a mage with emphasis on destruction and minor in conjuration and she is a complete badass. Impact is the best perk, once I had that throwing spells meant something.

I dunno, a lot of the complaints are ridiculous: "OMG I've played it for 200 hours and now it's like...boring...god"...well, yeah, you freaking played the game nonstop!

My big wish for Skyrim is better combat, it's a huge step up from Oblivion certainly but still feels lacklustre, spells need to do more, swordfighting needs to be pushed further away from the rock 'em sock 'em robot style and archery needs a few tweaks. Enemy AI needs a LOT of improvement, particularly with the humans (or higher beings, whatever). Raise an alarm, don't ignore the arrow in your chest, DO SOMETHING.

Generally though? I loved Skyrim, still do. That break helped a lot.

It can get boring depending on the Actual Gameplay/Loading Screen ratio. I try to walk or ride a horse to get to my objectives instead of fast traveling.
I've been a fan of the series since Morrowind, and something about the way you build your own character has always been one of the most fun parts for me.

Even those who complain that they played it for 50 hours and now it's boring. Considering the state of gaming, getting 50+ hours into any game is an achievement in and of itself, and if you get that much playtime before it gets boring it's great value (Considering that 20 hours of gameplay is something of a godsend these days).

The problem seems to be that Skyrim is just...well...shit?

Barely any quests are of interest. Christ, 90% of them are horrible. Main quest is shit, mage guild is horrible, Dark Brotherhood is alright.

Skyrim lacks decent narrative to keep playing. I recommend going to New Vegas.

OT: Some people can't find any re playability, some can, its just the way it is. If you don't like the game then I'm sorry, don't force yourself to play it, there are plenty of games to try also.

Me, I'll still be killing dragons cause that's me.

i played Oblivion for like 40-50 hours and enjoyed it somewhat. though i found most my enjoyment came with messing around as a mage and joking about bad production.

i played Skyrim for 2 hours and permanently quit the game. it bored me to death. feels exactly like Oblivion. it's got nothing new to offer and the dragon fights are probably the worst dragon fighting i've ever seen in a videogame. the franchise is just dry, it's been selling the same shit 3 times now nothing more than slight engine improvements and graphical updates.

nothing is wrong with you (OP) it's just the game. it may offer many gameplay hours but many people like me and you won't find any reason to play through all of them because the game doesn't offer a lot of variety. all the terrains look the same. all the enemies seem to fight the same way. leveling really doesn't matter and skill grinding is boring.

IMO rpgs have horrible traits, the only thing that made some games like FF7 great was the strong narrative but Elder Scrolls games dont have that, so whats left? shit side quests and skill grinding. if your not a hardcore rpg fan your not going to get much out of games like this. the rise of MMORPGs and RPGs that use questing and no strong narratives are a disappointing direction for RPGs as a whole. you need a lot of time and patients to enjoy Skyrim.

i used to be a completionist. I'd play a game and feel the need to finish it.

But nowadays I play a game for as long as it remains fun, then I quit and uninstall. No regrets. I don't take it to mean i dislike a game just because I didn't finish it, because the time I do spend playing it, I enjoy. If I spend 30 hours in a game then quit before finishing it, I consider it time well spent for the joy of those 30 hours. If the game has a story that I really want to see the ending of, I can always just read about it or watch a lets-play on youtube, skipping directly to the story and avoiding any grind to get there.

Its the norm now that i"ll get to a point where I feel like I've seen everything of interest to me, or that I've become overpowered, and its time to move on.

Skyrim is very moddable, however, so i'll be keeping an eye on it, i don't doubt that something like OOO for oblivion will rekindle my interest in skyrim. Even better, i would love to see a roguelike hardcore mode for skyrim (1 life, permadeath, graveyard to commemorate prior failed attempts). Even easy games where you get overpowered can be a challenge when you only have 1 life.

I don't see what is what problem everyone has with the narrative. The main quest is actually pretty decent. Ditto with the combat system. It may be a bit bland, but it isn't detrimental. I have a mage, a sword/shield warrior, and an archer and they all get in over their heads from time to time and I have to pull them out. So it isn't so bland that its gets boring and also each style of offense brings unique tactics so it isn't mundane either. It seem to me people are mad that they don't have some dumb move where you put your sword in the ground and cause an earthquake or something simiarly as dumb.

"Fallout 3's combat was better"

Statements like that show me who is just hating to hate on Skyrim. Fallout 3 was broken having VATS be a "god mode" and without using VATS it was probably the worst/most boring FPS/TPS mechanics ever 'invented'. The only thing NV has over it, is at least they fixed VATS. Combat in Fallout is garbage.

As for the "broken leveling system" in Skyrim, if you seriously play the game to make daggers... good for you, I guess. The game will seem easy. If you don't, then stop making daggers and play the game. The worst shortcoming of Skyrim is actually the economy and I haven't seen anyone make that complaint yet. Money is way too easy to get. "Rare items" are way too easy to get. Crafting gear and training should cost in-game time, houses should cost more than a suit of armor, early crafted items should be of inferior quality, everything in the game cost more, etc. Time and money are of infinite supply in this game and it causes a major problem and always has and probably always will in Bethesda games. Fallout has an enormous amount of resources for a "barren wasteland" setting, so much so that it actually taints any chance at immersion for me. The only reason everyone isn't a millionaire in fallout is because the only person scavenging the countryside is you.

Skyrim is the first Bethesda game I have ever liked and I have played them all from Morrowind on. I hated all the previous ones for all the reasons people are listing. The truth is Skyrim has a decent narrative, decent combat and leveling system, decent sidequests, sub-par voice acting but with decent dialogue. The game is decent, not terrible. The problem of it getting boring has nothing to do with any of those. It is in the economy. Money and items have no value if they are in unlimited supply. There is an unlimited supply of money in the game, thus player demand is low. Unfortunately, in games like this the best course of action (outside of modding) is to set restrictions on yourself. Only allowing yourself to carry half your weight limit, not allowed to put points in some stuff, etc.

The game could use some improvements, but I have yet to buy a game that I didn't think could. My favorite games ever have some things I think could be improved.
