Hey, guys, I've been having a problem. On my desktop, Skyrim is causing black-screen hard crashes at random intervals, anywhere from twenty minutes to five hours into playing. I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, but I do know that I'm not the only one having issues ([link]http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/456889-skyrim-complete-pc-crashes[/link]). However, despite reading through these, I'm still clueless. Just covering all my bases and hoping you guys can help.

My Specs:
3.5 GHz Quad-Core AMD Black Edition
8GB 1600MHz RAM
AMD 6870 1GB Vapor-X GPU
Western Digital Black Caviar 2TB
ASUS Crosshair IV Motherboard
1000W Rosewill CPU (A bunch of comments on Newegg say this could be it - [link]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=17-182-188[/link])

I think that's everything...

this is a sadly all too common experience. i have read numerous others complaining of random crashes at equally random intervals.

i experience it once only in a cave that after five crashes to desktop in a row, i just decided to never enter again. i haven't had a problem since.

since this isn't too uncommon, you like those others, may just have to wait for the patch in the hopes it solves the conflict that causes these crashes.

That's what I had figured. Glad it's not just me, and that none of my components are broken, but depressed that the game has such a fatal bug.

It crashes for no apparent reason. I can be walking, or looking at the map, or going through my inventory... No real trend.

Also, I wasted too much money on my desktop. Should have put a lot more of my tiny cashier's paycheck into the bank.

Did you try the virtual memory patch? That seemed to work for me. The other thing I did was to turn off anti-aliasing. Either way, I don't get crashes any more.

I have the same problem, I crash maybe once every hour I play.
I might be due to me playing it un 'ultra' graphic settings (I do sometimes see whitish purple trees).
But it's fine, thankgod for autosave :D

This was happening to me last night as well after the patch was implemented.

I haven't had too many crashes with the exception of a cave that crashes the game to desktop anytime I take more than two steps into it. It's the one you need to go through to get to Ancient's Assent without climbing the mountain. Can't remember what it's called at the moment though.

Just wondering. How many mods have you installed on Skyrim?
None. Don't want to mod it until I've beaten the game.
Hrmmm so it's not the mods making the game unstable. Im assuming you patched it correctly and installed the latest drivers and all that chitter chatter. Makes me wonder what does go wrong =/

Are there mods available already? I don't even thing the tools were released. I know that wont stop some but there still can't be much out.

OP - I know the problem: you bought a Bethesda game at launch. Next time wait a few months for patches.

I've been having a similar problem. From time to time Skyrim will just crash to my desktop. Sometimes during play, sometimes during loading. Sometimes after 20 minutes of play, sometimes after 5 or 6 hours of play. Its always random. I had ready somewhere, I think on the Steam forums, that Skyrim has an issue with memory leaks, so systems with low amounts of ram would crash quickly. I have 6 GBs in my laptop, but I still crash from time to time. I have no clue what is causing the crashes. I hope you can manage them OP, if you can wait a bit longer there is a large patch coming after the Thanksgiving holiday that should help correct issues like this.

Happens on console too, but instead of crashing it freezes up.

There are some points where the framerate shits itself too and I have to let my character stand there for like a minute until the lag goes away.

I'm guessing though. But I'm pretty sure there are mods already. See, I have the xbox version so I won't be having mods x3

Are you changing the FOV at all? I found that when I changed the FOV to 85 it started crashing, kept it at default and all was good.

Just checked the Nexus and yes there's are already a ton.
Just little things like body & eye detail but yes, it looks like some people started picking apart the code the moment they got the game.
Knew we could count on them. They'll probably have the crashing and other glitches under control before Bethesda too.

I love those modders.

I wouldn't put my money on something put together by (with all respect, you understand I make a difference between people getting paid and work in a team of professoinals and someone who does it for a hobby, again with all respect towards some epic projects like the multiplayer mod for Oblivion... We need more of that :p ) a hobbyperson. For some reason I trust the people who made the code in the first place to come with more viable options then a mod :p

Normally I would agree but this is Bethesda we're talking about.
If they even address the serious issues(which they sometimes don't), I doubt they'll have it under control before the modders.
