Skyrim DLC too little too late.

So after watching extra credits they brought up a good point. The longer after release it takes to get DLC out the door the less people buy it.
Do you think Skyrim DLC will bomb? Did they wait too long?

I dare argue that has something to do with the size of DLC.

Back in the days of full-size expansions...people bought that stuff.

No. Pretty sure the DLC's for the other Elder Scrolls games came out long after the game was released and they were still all best-sellers.

Skyrim's doing an interesting two-phase DLC method. They're putting out little things (EG the extra killcams) as free patch additions, while (surely) prepping huge expansions in the background. This makes Skyrim change slightly over time - keeping its audience interested - while allowing for Shivering Isles-style expansions to claim front page news down the line.

Personally, I think it's perfect.

Yep, Knights of the Nine came out only nine months after Oblivion, while Shivering Isles was a full year after Oblivion. Both were pretty big and sold well. I have no idea about the smaller DLC - they aren't as essential, in fact they didn't provide anything that interesting (aside from a couple) but I was left with the impression that they didn't sell too bad (even the Horse Armor Pack). And some came out even after Shivering Isles, if memory serves correctly.

I agree with all of you I just wanted to put the question out there. I think bethesda's pnly mistake is not officially letting us know that DLC was coming.

You're talking about Skyrim. It's not a game most would rush through once then put in the closet to gather dust.

Wait, there would be/is a Skyrim DLC? I didn't get that vibe from the OP, I thought you were asking in theory.

So why would that be a mistake? I don't think anybody had any doubts that Skyrim will have DLC.

They should at least give us a hint to when the expansion will come out. In the winter? Fall? Just give us something to get our whistles wet.

Skyrim's Steam integration has apparently caused them to become anchored to Valve time. However, I'll buy their DLC when it comes out just because I wub dem so much for not leaving out all the axes and selling them to us for $10 at launch.

People should expect it to be huge, chances are it's going to be bigger than Shivering Isles.

This isn't some map pack that the developer can pull out of their ass in mere weeks, this is a modern Bethesda DLC we're talking about.

it's a game where modders have alot more with the game then devolpers. DLC will come later and be relativly big. Oblivion and Morrowind mods kinda take up the little DLC packs we see nowadays for other games.

I'm futilely hoping for a full expansion pack that I can buy at a store. Perhaps a Dominion invasion and you lead a small army past Skyrim's border into hammerfell to hold them off.

Extra credits sucks. Also we could just as easily argue that making people wait for DLC reduces pre-owned trade-ins and leads to more new sales.

If the DLC is substantial enough(expansion pack like) then people will gladly buy it, but of course now days the marketing direction is "just spam the ************ during hype, someone will surely buy something".
Sadly they are right, in all the confusion any worthless bullshit will sell.
