You don't like them?
Oh, okay, lets have the Oblivion elves with faces like cottage cheese, then.

The elves look fantastic. They actually look like they belong to a different race. I'm currently playing a wood elf (who is very handsome if I say so myself) and I have a dark elf character.

I know I should consider your opinion here, but I find it hard to imagine not liking how they look. I feel like I'm playing a proper fantasy game, with proper races.

Part of the problem with the elves is that elves are supposed to look like humans. Orcs, Khajit, and Argonians don't have to look like humans, so there is a lot freedom there. Elves, not so much.
lol No.

You clearly don't know much about the lore and mythology of our own world.

No, not really. I really could honestly care less about the mythology of TES. All I wanna do is run around and stab people and blow people off cliffs with Unrelenting Force. Is that too much to ask for? And I want to do it while not being constantly accosted by a race of people who look something akin to Sloth from the Goonies.

EDIT: I also want to shoot them with bows and electrocute them for with Force Lightning. I'm not really picky.

This is the first TES game where I chose to create a Dark Elf instead of a redguard.
So I'd say Elves in Skyrim are pretty AWESOME.
Opinions opinions.

I dunno, I actually like it. Elves are usually just tall pretty humans and that's boring as fuck. So good on em.

I like this version of elves. Each different type of elf looks quite different beyond simply skin color and they all look quite different then humans. I don't want my elves to look like pointy eared humans. I want them to look quite different simply due to the fact that they are are different race from humans.

What the hell was Bethesda thinking? The elves in Skyrim look absolutely HIDEOUS. I mean, they look like something you'd see out of Aliens. I feel like the Khajit and the Argonians feel more human than the elves do! It's become very off-putting.

I can't figure out what's worse. That someone designed them in the first place thinking that they would be aesthetically pleasing, or that someone didn't tell the person who created them that they're an absolute failure and put them in the final release.
They were supposed to be ugly. Since when were elves supposed to be pretty?
It's FINE if they're UGLY, but they don't look like ELVES.
How do Elves look like, then? Can you catch one into a cage and show the developers how they should look like?

Also, notice how some games/media don't even show Elves as humanoids - they're like fairies or pixies.

...I'm gonna go ahead and call that an improvement. Maybe the elves aren't SUPPOSED to be pretty.

...In fact, I'm gonna go with that. Who says all races have to fit a traditional version of "aesthetically pleasing"?
What he/she said.I quite like the idea of elves not having to be "Fair Folk"

I would love to see the OP's face when he realizes the Dwarves of Cyrodiil are actually just Elves that lived underground....

-'I want stuff that's familiar! If I don't like it, it's WRONG!!!!!!!'-
Yeah, pretty much.

Well, actually, no to be honest. I don't care if they elves look different, I just don't want them to look like the dog's bollocks. There's other ways to make them look "non-human" without doing what is honestly hack plastic surgery to their faces.

Alright, I'm signing off tonight to get some sleep and possibly ethnically cleanse Skyrim. I'll be back on tomorrow possibly if anyone else needs a punching bag.

So the problem you have with them is that they look bizarre an inhuman... I wonder why.

First of all it's more then possible to make an elf who's relatively pleasing to behold(Much easier then with an Orc)

Second of all, who says thay're supposed to be pretty?. Even if so, certainly not all of them. The Orcs, Argonians and Khajits are ugly as sin by human standards, because they're not human. Elves are closer but have they're own set of oddities and ideals of beauty.

why?????? give me a good reason

for christ sake, I dont care about skyrim but some people will find anything to nitpick over, like it actually fucking matters or somthing

you obviously have this is set Idea of what elves are suposed to look like..its callec fiction, the concept of elves is not copy righted therefore you can do what ever the blody hell you want with them (tolkein may have set the standard but so what? does that make his vision of things the best?)

fucking hell....this is just the type of attutude that I HATE about the internet and fandoms

"OMG!!! the dwaves beards are too short!!!!"

its stupid

EDIT:

I would like to point out that I think the two biggest problems with the elf models are 1: The ridiculous anime bug eyes and 2: The incredibly pronounced brows that they have, I mean, they jut out so far from their heads you could land a Cessna on them. Their skull structure looks like David Boreanaz and Cro-Magnon Man had a baby.

Also, since people keep bringing this up as well: Yes, the elves looked WORSE in Oblivion. That doesn't mean that they look GOOD in Skyrim.

By the way, people keep using this image and I just want to comment:

^That guy looks like he belongs in a DYNASTY WARRIORS game, not TES.
That elf looks somewhat semitic tbh.

This thread is still alive? Why?
Anyway, I don't care, so long as I get to pull this song out of my sleeve. :p

Anyway, OP, what you have to learn is that we don't give a flying fuck if you think that the elves are ugly. Well, apparently we do, seeing as this thread is on its seventh page, but we shouldn't.
Congratulations, however, on not thinking that these elves look like elves. If you don't mind my curiosity though, I'd like to ask you how what you think that an elf does actually look like? Because being that they don't actually exist and all, I thought that it was rather open to interpretation.

I think the Dunmer look pretty awesome, if you tweak 'em a bit. I like the fact that they made them look very distinct from the human models. Sort of emphasizes their 'otherness'.

This is hyperbole, but if Bethesda made elves three feet tall, with 7 arms, red skin, and horns, then they can call them elves all they want, but they're not elves.
Ironically enough, this would be CLOSER to classic elves. They were tiny devilish troublemakers before the likes of Tolkien came in and rewrote them.
Sure, but here's the deal. TES is a classic, high fantasy game. Tolkien's elves have been the accepted norm for elves for about 60 years now. Now if you wanna make some deviation from the high fantasy Genre, fine, but when we're talking about TES, there are some expectations I think, and what they've put out don't meet those expectations in my opinion.

Tolkien WON. Elves LOOK like human beings. They may not have to look like supermodels, but they're general appearance should be human. Especially in a game series that bleeds as much Tolkien and D&D as TES.
Bethesda don't follow the rules, they make their owns rules.

In my opinion, Elves should be made of ground-up human eyebrows and loose skin from the armpits, but I don't always get my way and I hardly find reason to complain about it.

Savvy?

I think all the races too really good.. my only issue would be body. My Orc in full plate looks like anything else unless you zoom way in and see his face. I know why they do this, much easier on the rendering if all the bodies are similar. So its minor.. but facially I think the have nailed it. Even New Vegas had bad looking faces/same old ones.. Skyrim has really set the bar with looks.. even hair looks pretty good for once.

Pretty TES elves are so 1996. I actually think the choice to make them look inhuman in Morrowind and onward was for the best. It's supposed to be another world, not a LotR cosplay party.
