Part of the problem with the elves is that elves are supposed to look like humans. Orcs, Khajit, and Argonians don't have to look like humans, so there is a lot freedom there. Elves, not so much.
Says who? Why can't the look other worldly and not just sinking to humanity's very superficial view on beauty?
Because I am shallow and predictable.

Also, these aren't just elves. They're Mer. And if you didn't know, the Mer include Dwemer, Falmer, and Orismer, which are respectively Dwarves, Goblins, and the Orcs you just mentioned. I.E. They aren't and never were meant to be humans with just pointy ears.
Yeah, I'll be honest, I'm not really looking to get into a discussion on the particularities of the elder scrolls lore, I mean, I'm just kinda stirring up stuff for a laugh or two. I mean, sure I get it and all, but to be honest half the reason I play Skyrim is to electrocute bunnies with force lighting.

Blasphemy. Orcs are too cool to be elves. They have tusks for the love of god. TUSKS!
See the pointy ears?

Elder Scrolls elves > Tolkien elves.

A more true statement has never before been uttered.
Without Tolkien elves there probably wouldn't even be Elder Scrolls elves...there probably wouldn't even be Elder Scrolls.

Also, I don't recall any elves in the Elder Scrolls killing a Mûmakil by themself.

I find the Elder Scrolls in general suffers from poor aesthetics. It's been a major hurdle to my enjoyment ever since Morrowind.

You'll either have to get used to it or wait until mods come out.
You know, I have to agree somewhat. Really, the only races I like in the Elder Scrolls are the Khajit, the Argonians, and the Orcs because quite frankly they're exactly what I expect.
...except TES Orcs are elves too, the Orsimer. They used to be similar to the Altmer, until the Daedric Prince Boethiah ate their god Trinimac and shat him out as Malacath, transforming his followers along with him.

True, there probably wouldn't be, but this is a textbook example of the student overtaking the obese and lazy master.

Elamdri (isn't that the name of some elf from something or other?)
When I was young and played Magic the Gathering, my favorite character was Eladamri the lord of Leaves, but I couldn't spell it right. I never bothered to fix it.
That is freaking weird. That is exactly where I remember the name from, and I mentally-spelled/pronounced it "Elamdri" as well. I never had the card (not into elves), but a couple of my friends did.

To be honest, I hate the damn Mer stuff in TES lore.

Look, you got Wood Elves, High Elves, Drow, and Orcs. That's how it works.

I don't recall any Tolkien elves keeping a meteor from falling on a city through sheer force of will.

Nor Tolkien elves becoming gods all ovuh thuh place. (Both Dunmer and Altmer have become gods)

Nah, I never found the elves in ES that interesting, except for the asshole Dunmers from Morrowind.

No. You have midgetmer, tallmer, ashfacemer, and pariahmer.

I thought the same when I first started playing. 2 seconds later when I customized my Dunmer's face to something of my liking I didn't see a problem.

Cool to see that Hunter and I had pretty much the same idea in mind.

That the case, huh? Then the true point to this thread is:

Option A. You're honestly doing this in honest good fun with your fellow forum goers, but you're quite honestly failing miserably at playing the jokester. Honestly.

Option B. You're purposely playing it up for your own entertainment, making you a troll.

Either way, this thread is failing to prove to be anything of interest. I'm not saying funny threads can't exist, but the humor here is misplaced and seems more in the purpose of poking a sleeping bear than anything of real value.

I can't figure out what's worse. That someone designed them in the first place thinking that they would be aesthetically pleasing, or that someone didn't tell the person who created them that they're an absolute failure and put them in the final release.
What I hear is:

"WAAAAH! The elves don't look EXACTLY LIKE EVERY OTHER ELF IN POPULAR CULTURE! I want my Arwen!"

Seriously, they're fine. They aren't fucking beauty queens, so what. They aren't supposed to be, because they're Elder Scrolls elves. They're supposed to look weird.

I like how the elves look overall, as it is I hated the way characters looked in Oblivion. My main complaint is there isn't enough variety in the appearance options and a lot of them tend to look like a slightly tweaked variation of the default face with a different hair style.

Or at least the female ones do... I don't play male characters.

I have both a Dark Elf and a Wood Elf character and I wish that the two of them looked more unique compared to one another. And I mean more in terms of facial structure. The main difference between these two characters rests almost entirely on the shoulders of their totally different hair and warpaint. That's mostly it though. The facial structure looks way too similar.

The Elves look better, when they are beheaded by my axe.

I'd have to agree, Bethesda elves aren't pretty beauties, they are arrogant dodgy bastards, paranoid and powerful in magic. Warped little creatures, best to shoot in the throat or behead.

That's not entertaining to watch.

Plus, Vivec was a pussy...just sayin'. Dagoth Ur would have kicked his arse.

Ahhh yes, the pariah folk, formed from defecation.

Not in a million years. Dagoth Ur was just the dreams of a dead man.

Plus Mannimarco kicks everyone's ass.
