I had Lydia following me, and I told her to 'wait', but then I got busy, and forgot to go back for her. A while later, I got a system message accross my screen said follower got tired of waiting and decided to leave. Where did she go? She isn't in dragons reach or my house. any Ideas?

Probably in Florida, relaxing in the sun, far from the troubles of Skyrim.

In other words, no idea.

She left you for another man who doesn't make multiple posts. Or bugged out and got deleted forever.

Maybe she is still on her way to Dragonsreach. May want to give the place another once over.

Also, while we're on the subject of followers and I don't want to make a thread about it, are there any Argonian followers around?

Yes, there is one you rescue in a cave... what was that poor sod's name? Derkeethus methinks and he can even be married if you fancy scaly sex...

How often have you checked your house? A couple of times when I've sent her away, she's not back there or in dragonsreach, but she ultimately does reappear in my house. Maybe try waiting for a half a game-day or more, then re-enter your house. Alternatively, she might be wandering around whiterun somewhere.

She should go back to Breezehome. That's where she's supposed to go. If she doesn't return there, it might (at first at least) be the game actually taking the time to calculate how long it would take for her to walk from wherever she is to Whiterun. But more likely is that there was a glitch and you've lost her forever. If I were you, I'd consider that a blessing. I can't stand Lydia, or Lyds as I always call her, usually in the context like "shut the fuck up Lyds," or "Damnit Lyds!" or "when did I invite you into my house, Lyds?"

This is your chance to invest in a better follower!

Janessa was replaced by a forced quest companion and I have NO idea where she went. She had a lot of my stuff though. I have a feeling she sold it all and is sipping mojitos on the volcano in Morrowind...ohwait.

PS: Frankly there are so many followers and none of them are all that amazing. If I want a tank, I have a lot of options. if I want a mage, I have a lot of options. If they start pissing me off I kill them and move on to the next one.

If you own a house in Whiterun (Breezehome), she'll be there, otherwise check Dragonsreach, she usually sits on one of the tables close to Jarl. Be warned though if she's not there, let a few day pass because game considers the travel time.

Followers? Bah! I play a Nord Warrior, full Daedric armor + Daedric swords with fire enchantments and a Daedric bow with the same enchantment. I dual wield so that I kill the enemy so fast I wouldn't need to block anyways, plus i have the heavy armor for defense, ironically the reason I don't use followers is because I don't want them dying just for someone to drag them to my wedding when I finally get Proudspire Manor. I might end up getting a follower as a pack mule but that's it, never used a follower, don't need one when you can kill a dragon when it decides to land for some reason while at high health, or can ride on a dragon's head and stab it as a finishing move (that was a fun one).

Followers will walk back to where ever it is there going and sometimes just stop for some reason. If you have a PC you can teleport to her location with the console command "player.moveto a2c94" on the PC, or move her to your current location with "a2c94.moveto player".

Not unless she dies or he can find her and tell her to leave.

Had to reload an hour old save once because Farkhas disappeared, and when I wanted to hire Marcurio the mage I couldn't because he kept saying I already had someone with me. "BULLSHIT! Fuckface pissed off in a cave somewhere and hasn't come back!"

Followers wait for three days for you to come back, then they get tired and go back to their home. When they get tired, they also leave you, until you get them back again.

No, I mean Farkhas LITERALLY dissapeared. In the then-cleared out cave with me one second, gone the next. Never saw him again. It had been at least five game days, I'd even not used Wait because I thought maybe that'd mess it up. Never showed up.

She can take a while to get back there. If she died, you'd have been sent a note.

In the meantime, go to Dawnstar and speak to Erandur. He's my favorite follower so far. Most of them have been cardboard cutouts, though. Some of them are just literally:
"Hey you. Follow me"
"OK."
