Many of you who look at this will have already seen it and those of you who haven't...FEAST YOUR EYES UPON IT!
The rest of you can as well, I know you want to :p

Right. Now that is out of the way...Your watching it again aren't you? It's alright, I will wait...[some time later]...Done yet? I will assume you have...for now.

The point of this thread is to discuss a number of things about Skyrim. Feel free to throw anything into the discussions related to it, but mainly I wanted to talk about the language of Skyrim.

Firstly I thought it would be fun if some of you helped with figuring out what the lyrics are, as only the lyrics from the first trailer [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0fQWkk9Z6s&feature=related] are mostly clear - although there still is some argument over the wording - feel free to disagree with my interpretation of it! But the first paragraph, which I (to my knowledge) am the first to take a crack at hearing every word sung, is the important one and still unclear (feel free to question that wording as well, more so as its hard to hear it as it's so fast).

My attempt at deciphering the wording said:
Vous jas char,
Vous shos calor,
For-fe-lor oflenor,
En'lus varr-loh,
Da ker'la,
Of-glooors,
Hostagg sal fre fo'dosstrem to fi-fo ittole mo.

For the King! Dovahkiin!
For the Sake of Skyrim!
For our Land, for our Home, for Hrothgar's blood.
For the Nords and the Gods!
For the Sole Single Son,
Dovahkiin!
Our King!
Who'll Dawn with FIRE!
Why do this? Well people want to know the lyrics to this epic piece, so it helps them out and we need to know what they are roughly if we want to have a go at translating it! But don't worry I have come prepared and am going to use what we already know to help lay the groundwork.

DOVAHKIIN DOVAHKIIN / NAAL OK ZIN LOS VAHRIIN / WAH DEIN VOKUL MAHFAERAAK AHST VAAL / AHRK FIN NOROK PAAL GRAAN / FOD NUST HON ZINDRO ZIN / DOVAHKIIN FAH HIN KOGAAN MU DRAAL /

DRAGONBORN DRAGONBORN / BY HIS HONOR IS SWORN / TO KEEP EVIL FOREVER AT BAY / AND THE FIERCEST ROUT / WHEN THEY HEAR TRIUMPH'S HONOR / DRAGONBORN FOR YOUR BLESSING WE PRAY
AHRK FIN KEL LOST PRODAH / DO VED VIING KO FIN KRAH / TOL FOD ZEYMAH WIN KEIN MEYZ FUNDEIN / ALDUIN FEYN DO JUN / KRUZIIK VOKUN STAADNAU / VOTH AAN BAHLOK WAH DIIVON FIN LEIN

AND THE SCROLLS HAVE FORTOLD / OF BLACK WINGS IN THE COLD / THAT WHEN BROTHERS WAGE WAR COME UNFURLED / ALDUIN BANE OF KINGS / ANCIENT SHADOW UNBOUND / WITH A HUNGERY TO SWALLOW THE WORLD
The unofficial dictionary I made said:
Fin = the
Ahrk = and
Win = in
Fundein = cold
Tol = to
Voth = with
Aan = a

I won't do any more as looking at the number of words making up the number of words in each translation it is clear meaning can change with context and words can stand for multiple expressions.
So what do you think is being said in the trailer?
My attempt at a translation based on what I assume the words to be said:
Vous jas char,
[(We know it is a shout attack so it could be anything from "DIE SUCKER!" to "LOOK, FREE ICECREAM!")]
[Here I Rule,]
Vous shos calor,
[Here upon Mountains,]
For-fe-lor oflenor,
[For the Good of the Nord,]
En'lus varr-loh,
[(In the)/(within) Darkness,]
Da ker'la,
[He Leads,]
Of-glooors,
[For Glory,]
Hostagg sal fre fo'dosstrem to fi-fo ittole mo.
[From the Throat of the World, over beast and man.]

wow....

anyway Im really unsure about it...oblivio had alot of potential but the lack of an actualy charachter killed it for me

do we get anything that resembles dialouge opions? I really really dont like playing as such a blank slate

that combined with the chosen one saving the world....that said however perhaps being an evil charachter would make it a million times more interesting

I hope you can choose to join the "bad guys". In Oblivion I really wanted to shove a claymore down Martin's throat for sending me on so many fetch quests.

Which brings me to one of my main points that I hope the main quest will be much better this time round, and not make us some errand boy who doesn't even get to kill the final boss. Not to mention the crappy reward at the end.

No silly good or evil choices are needed in oblivion since you can attack anything you want

What are you talking about?
Martin was such a likeable character who was just SO damn USEFUL...
I'm sure he NEEDED all those Blades to stand around hitting targets rather than helping you out...

and I hope we get SOME kind of charachtersation to work with, I mean I want to give a shit about whats going on.... because if it has to be "chosen one saves the world" then can it at least be interesting?

also I mean...just wandering around being a theif and all round adventurer is cool but I couldnt really get into such charachterisation if Im "the mighty choson one" I guess that one good thing about oblivion

I guess RPing as some complex evil charahcter....but still Im going to have to really look into the game if I want to get it

anyway that said I know nothing of the plot..so yeah

Ok with your attempts at the language I also attempted it and failed miserably. But from the wikis and articles I know the attack shout is FUS RO DAH which translates as FORCE BALANCE PUSH.

Yup, shout is Fus Ro Dah. and I really don't think we'll get anywhere with trying to translate the trailer until we have awhole dictioary of Draconic - otherwise it ends up as just noises.

Oh, and I can sing the other song in English and Draconic.

Just sayin' :p
But can you sing the Skyrim Literal Trailer song? :p

I saw 'Fus Ro Dah' being thrown around. However, the more I listened to it, the more I found that the singer slurs the words to sing them, to make them sound fluid. So my version is based mainly on how the words are pronounced in the song.

You seem to have forgotten...
WE DID ALL THE WORK! WE GATHERED ALL HIS STUFF! We probably could have even done the summoning of the portal had Martin not been such an idiot, failing to realise that we too can read (we became very proficient whilst in jail)! Then he steals all our glory and is seen as a savior. At least with the Shivering Isles you can commit crimes and not get sent to prison once you have finished it. That is the true reason to despise Martin :p

Ya but unlike in fallout 3 and new vegas even if I wiped out 4 or 5 cities I didnt really feel like it impacted the game very much. It just didnt seem like I was doing anything evil or that anybody besides the guards cared.
I wouldn't say that. I went to paradise falls, the slaver camp at like level 9 and the were practically worshipping me in fear. :p

I think my first line to get through the gate was
'Don't you know who I am?'

I see your point about oblivion though the main character feels like such a non entity almost. It's better in the fallout games lets hope they ahve learned from that.

Personally I hope the greybeards actually react to your character and gender choice. You turn up as a female khajiit 'We were expecting someone erm... taller...and less...furry.' xD
