Skyrim lasted me a whole Summer and I still can't say I completed it. Yeah, it has its flaws, and it's not as deep as other games, but its rich with lore, has a beautifully crafted world, and some great stories to tell.

As for bugs, I really never had any problems with them. I had the PC version, and the only time my game started to crash a bit was when I installed one to many overlapping mods.

Be sure to get it for the PC though. I had Oblivion on the Xbox, which was fine back in the day, but having it on the PC and seeing the sheer amount of mods that are out there that do everything from debugging the game to adding new spells to adding huge new areas to the game world, there is no way I'm going back. Glorious PC gaming master race indeed.

TL/DR buy the damn game. For the price it is at now, if you are a fan of RPG's, you owe it to yourself to at least try this game.

Skyrim is one of those games where if you want to have fun playing it you must be prepared to make your own fun. The main story is boring, and uninspired, but you can stumble across other side quests that are a lot of fun. For example I loved the Dark Brotherhood storyline, and enjoyed the crap out of it. I would have played an entire game like that.

The crushing depth of the game is where the fun is. If you want in depth story, and characters look for a bioware game.

Invent your own goals, thats when bethesda games become fun. Like, exterminate everyone in a town for example.

Dont listen to him^ Its definitely a good game, ripe with plenty of opportunities to have fun unless dialog and story are the most important element of a game for you in which case you could always try books.

Meh. I bought it, played, and will never touch it again.

My girlfriend, however, will spend all day riding her in game horse...and she loves it.

To me, it's "swing axe until enemy dies. Heal. Repeat....repeat...repeat.." I'd rather just play Dark Souls for the billionth time.

Jrpgs do suck though. They stopped being good when the PS1 final fantasy abominations started coming out but thats a topic for another thread.

I'm unsure at what point occurred my disconnect from The Elder Scrolls as a franchise. Morrowind is one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time, and the slack-jawed wonder I felt exploring Vvardenfell has very rarely been replicated in any video game since(pretty much only Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XIV, and Guild Wars 2 have had me feeling this way post-Morrowind). I bought Skyrim a few months after its release, played it for two hours with an overall attitude of mild approval, and have yet to touch it since.

You have to be very invested in the spirit of adventuring to enjoy a game like Skyrim. If you like open-world sandbox sort of games, then yes, by all means, nab it, as it's one of the best open-world RPGs available. I, for my part, would rather either play a game with linearity and gameplay restriction or just fire up an MMO.

Get it and get it now!!! I have spent 350+ hours on it. it is a really great game.
Where do you people find the time?

I mena, I've spent over a hundred hours in a couple of games, but they're mostly ones I've had for a long time. And they're all games that I can go into coop with. I've never spent more than about 60 hours on a single player game. I don't think I could.

I've got like 150 hours in Killing floor, about the same in Retribution. And about 180 in Bad Company 2. Everything else drops to way under 100 hours.

And each of those games I've had for over 2 years. Close to like 4 on Killing Floor.
I had a lot of spare time when I was in Germany last year, and I also have a bit of an issue with time management. Still, I managed to put 130 hours into Torchlight II since its release, to the probable sufferance of my grades.

You can't really go wrong, with the amount of mods out there you can play how you want even more so than you've heard on consoles (that's not a stab at anyone on console). You can take mods either really far or just use them to make the game more immersive and it's incredibly easy to mod the game, install the Nexus Mod Manager and then on their site you download with the manager. After it's done hit install mod, done.

I only added some things that add to the game, better lighting, more swords and armor, better looking NPCs (no neck seam not super models walking around) and I got a better vampire mod but never got around to it.

Sure it has it's bugs:

But where else can you yoink this:

Either way, you probably hear its overhyped because it's not exactly a story that pulls you in and along, you have to chose what you do and chose how you play. Do you want to be a hero for all and make money by doing jobs? Or do you want to be a jerk who steals from the people picks every door lock in the game and then eats them as a werewolf? Well you can do that.

It's worth it.
You really get value for money with Skyrim, because it is such a huge game.
I got over 160 hours on one character, and I still hadn't finished every quest and gone everywhere.

Skyrim is currently discounted by 50% on Steam
More importantly, it's currently 25% less than that on GMG [http://slickdeals.net/f/5556308-PC-Dishonored-or-Skyrim-50-off-additional-25-off-coupon-22-50] (and activates on Steam). $22.50 is a heck of a lot better than $30, at least for people who pay in USD. Not sure what they charge people elsewhere.

Buy it, dude... just... buy it. What, reasons? ...ohfine:

Rationally thinking, a game that has won over so many people during the first few months of... *insert every credential and rating that you've heard here* ...at a 50% discount is a grab without a doubt. A single player only game that sold better than anything that came out along with it, including the CoDs and BFs surely holds something for everybody.

Irrationally thinking, based on the amount of jokes, memes, net-culture references and overall influence the game commands it's worth for the library alone.

Time-wise: A year later @ 50% off works for you in ways that might not be apparent. The game that the masses bought at launch (or POed) got it at full price with no Expansions, a mod community that wasn't ready for the sheer amount of people flooding the Nexus site and a product that, let's face it, had it's share of Bethesda-like coding and backwards dragons and still it didn't deter them from playing it through and wanting more. Nowadays, you get it at half the $, a few Expansions, a nexus site with over 5000 mods and months of official patches and fan-made fixes that leave basically none of the bugs unfixed. Come on now...

Mod-wise: How much are you into modding? Although Bethesda never released a G.E.C.K for Skyrim (not that i know of at least... might be wrong) the game has a very persistent and large mod community that make the game that bigger and flexible to particular tastes. Personally, I love what Bethesda did with FO3, giving the tools necessary for players to create their own content, limited only by their own skill. From simple re-textures to monster spawn mods and 1.3GB titans like the FOOK2, which added 150-ish new guns, 130-ish new armors, around 50 new NPCs, new mechanics and extended scrips... FO3 and FO:NV paved the way and Skyrim reaped all the benefits of experience and know-how that people accumulated.

More reasons? Really? Aight, this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbJw2R-dtxQ&feature=related

Ultimately... Buy it, dude... Just, just... buy it...

I've greatly enjoyed it, for 50% off, it's worth a buy.

As Jim put it in on of his Jimquisitions, it's a great example of how the industry doesn't need to go with this "everything needs multiplayer and DLC" way of thinking.

I've sunk about 100 hours into it, and still haven't actually explored everywhere/done everything.

So, in short, it's a "yes" from me.
