Skyrim help: firing Lydia

Is it just me, or are all my companions invincible?

My people never die, they just sort fall to one knee and hobble around.

Some of the companions are actually essential characters and can never die. (I know Mjoll the Lioness can't because you get a quest from her)

Which does make them pretty powerful companions.

Lydia, is your housecarl, basically she will protect you and all you own. When you buy Breezehome in Whiterun, it becomes her home as well. So its not that she 'belongs in the keep' but that she is a bodyguard. Don't want her to stay in your house? Kill her in some manner. I have personally grown attached to the suicidal health hazard that she has become at the higher levels so I'm happy to have her stay in Breezehome while I go and trudge around Skyrim not having to worry about her not using the the weapons I crafted for her and getting killed.

Yup, that's easy although I'll post it behind a spoiler once you reach sky haven temple or whatever it's called in the main quest line you can have the blades "recruit" ol lids and get rid of her but the best part is you can still use her later if you want

This is what I would do (and did on one character). So this gets my support.

Also for those interested I did this because she bugged out and started getting all passive aggressive with me

Didn't have to kill her or anything, and didn't suffer any ill-effects because of it.

Makes sense, I think. If my employer morphed before my eyes into a slobbering, howling, engine of frenzied destruction ... I'd probably take an extended vacation, too.

At first I was okay with Lydia, living in Breezehome with me, but after getting married, she was so damn annoying, always sitting at that one desk, and eating a loaf of bread!

Like what the hell woman! You sit there the whole day, even when I am supposedly, sleeping and/or getting it on with Ysolda, and your just looking at us, while munching empty bread.
I have more rooms in my house, and even a lot of food to share ... were you doing this, when you lived with the Jarl? That's probably why he sent you off with me ...

So yeah, at first I was like that, but before decapitating her I said to myself:
You know what, I don't even care, I spend 99% of my time out adventuring, so Lydia can stay, atleast my wife has some company in the time i'm gone, and I'll just assume, we have awesome threesomes everytime I return to spend a night or two at home.

Yes! This is what I was worried about. I want to get married, but not to Lydia. I have nothing against her, I'd certainly rather not kill her or get her killed if possible, but I don't want her living in my house with me and my wife.

But yeah, maybe I'll just let her stay and go with the threesomes interpretation of things.

Wasn't aware I was in a minority here.

I took her everywhere, with a few exceptions:

1. Doing the Brotherhood and Thieves quests. I just didn't want her to see that side of me. She's so pure and innocent, and it would simply break her heart.

2. Going anywhere where there's traps. I love Lydia, but god help me, she finds EVERY damn trap, repeatedly.



On the other hand, I made sure to take her to every cave I could. ***** LOVES caves.

Or alternatively, you can buy a house in another city, where you also refuse a thaneship if it's offered to you (or just not claim it after fulfilling all the requirements).
Not a thane = no huskarl.

Then tell your spouse you want to move into that house.

Question: Why do you WANT to get rid of Lydia. She's very handy as a tank if you kit her out right, and quite frankly travelling alone sucks balls. And this may be just me but my first character got married to her (addfac 19809 1, in case anyone is interested. Sorry, PC only).

Okay, fine. We'll play it your way. If you don't want her around, recruit her into the Blades and she'll live at Sky Haven Temple. If you want her dead, either do Boethia's Quest, or hit her with an area of effect spell or shout when she's healing.

YOu could just bring her to the blades when you get there and have her join....that way she will be useful and not in your house anymore...and not dead...

You can part ways, but after a while she will go to your house since you bought it. She would probably return to the castle if you don't buy it, but as your housecarl, she is 'sworn to carry your burdens'. (sorry)

It always bothered me the way she says that, like she's being all sarcastic and hated being with me.

I used to have arguments with her when we were adventuring. "There's no need to be like that, Lydia! I'm not making you stay here. If you want to leave then leave. No? Well stop whining and hold all these Dragon bones while I pick the lock on this chest." Of course she never spoke back because she knew better. *****.

THANK THE GODS. I thought I was the only one. I always made her wait outside when my Argonian warrior went inside the sanctuary. It's not like she didn't know what I was up to but it made me feel better about myself. A little.

As for the traps, ALL companions find the damned traps. They're a liability when you're trying to sneak. The amount of times I've received a spiked swing gate to the face because some dolt behind me stepped on a pressure plate. I swear...

LOL! It always worried me that her favourite occupation was to watch me sleep. She even brought snacks. The woman has issues.

I moved my wife Ysolda to Riften and we live there together now. Of course I get another bloody Housecarl there as well! So whenever I visit my home in Riften the rather small house is filled with Ysolda, my Housecarl Iona (Who must be Lydia's long lost twin sister) and Mjoll the Lioness who is my constant adventuring companion. Sometimes my character feels like a right whore. Gods only know what Ysolda thinks.

Ahh that would explain why Mjoll is like some sort of walking battle tank. A good choice on my part then!

YOu could just bring her to the blades when you get there and have her join....that way she will be useful and not in your house anymore...and not dead...

I wish I had left her alive until I was able to start recruiting Blades, and this is what I would have done.

In the end I took her with me to fight two dragons at the same time and, tragically, she didn't make it (I tried to save her, but not as hard as I could have tried). I made a shield out of the dragons' scales, and called it Lydia's Vengeance.
