I'm roleplaying a Wolverine-esque quiet badass Imperial, I decided to flee with the Stormcloak rather than the Imperial at the start, because the guy had been friendly to me on the wagon and I didn't appreciate the Imperials deciding to execute one of their own with no reason (it okay off course because they'd return my body to Cyrodill). Seeing the torture chamber reaffirmed my decision and the fact that the rebel King was going to be excuted without trial.

I used to support the Empire, back in Morrowind and Oblivion, but I feel it's decaying without a good Emperor (or even an Emperor) at the helm. So I'll probably side with Stormcloaks.

Im playing a Khajit theif/archer and he had problems joining either side. I see him as very anarchist and disliking any kind of singular ruling power. So what it came down to was the moment where you have to make the decision. For him he joined the imperials just on the basis that joining the currently occupied body of warriors at the keep was his best chance for survival

I'm still unsure. I haven't really seen much motivation from each side so far, but the Jarls have helped me more this far.

I sort of accidentally went with the Stormcloak at the start of the game (I was running away from a dragon, not exactly paying attention), but that didn't really have any effect. I did, however, pick to side with the Stormcloaks because I just felt like it.

I plan to go Stormcloaks because the Empire has been declining ever since the Oblivion Crisis. They've already lost, what, four provinces? Skyrim is better off succeeding before the Empire drags them down with it, and if Imperial rule should entirely collapse as a result, so be it. Let it fall and only rise again when someone of Talos's calibre can reunite the land.

Kinda siding with the Imperials.

Stormcloaks have a cool name and the whole "fight the power" thing going, but... I dunno. The more I hear in conversations, the more I see things from the Imperialists' view.

Potential spoiler for those who have yet to play:
Shouts are no joke and seen as divine gifts and whatnot, and it was terribly mis-used by Mr. Stormcloak. That's not cool. :p

Stormcloaks during my first playthrough, then Imperial. There are surprisingly many choices to make in Skyrim. I hate choices, because I always end up postponing them, or just not doing them at all...

Currently playing a Conan-Style, Dual-Axe Nord, and hell yes he supports the Stormcloaks. To Sovngarde with the Empire!

Next playthrough, I plan on doing an Imperial Legionnaire, and being the Nord's polar opposite. Good times.

Which side did/will you choose?
Here's how it went down for Tad-ríel, my Wood Elf. A Rogue/Archer/Mage character that I have been playing in so many different RPG's. Actually he was meant to be an Archer/Mage but I have been faffing about so much with pickpocketing and lock-picking and god knows, so I added the Rogue for good meassure. :)

As recounted by Tad-ríel Lok'naeh.
The first memories from the peaks and valleys of Skyrim.

I was faced with a hard decision at Helgen Keep..
On one hand I had a friendly captive, a Stormcloak rebel by the name of Ralof, and the true High King of Skyrim about to be executed (together with me) without any means of a trial. On the the other, I had an Imperial officer, Hadvar, he told me his name was, that actually cared for me and wanted for me to go free. When they forced me to kneel for the axe, I looked at him. He seemed to be... Crying..
Then the dragon came swooping down. It's roar was maddening.
In all the commotion that ensued, I however made a run for it together with the Stormcloak Ralof. We fought our way through the keep, and when the dust had cleared and my ears stopped ringing, I saw the body of Hadvar, the kind man who had been looking after me, his blood on my hands...
Down into the dungeons we ran. There we found the torture chamber. I was so infuriated by what I saw in there that nothing could stand against me.. A few quick sword-slashes later their bodies lay motionless.
Through the underground passages our road went on, until we were only a few feet away from a giant bear! Feeling a bit out-of-sorts I chose to sneak past it.
Finally out of the cave-system.
Many a mile have I traveled, even though it were not many days ago. I cannot put enough distance between me and that damned place.
I've been forced into a conflict, a civil-war.. And I have yet to make a stand. My mind and heart wants to join the rebellion. To overthrow the opressive hold of the Emperor. But my guilt keeps nagging at me, keeps eating me out. It tells me to join the Imperial forces...
I do not know which way to take..

Ah, there we go. I actually thank you for giving me an excuse to translate and write this down. I am writing a "journal" of sorts for a gaming publication. It's about the life and travels of my character. It will most likely not all be like this part, I intended to make it a fun read but after witnessing that opening of Skyrim first-hand.. I just knew that I had to make the first installment atleast a bit dramatic. And no, this was not all of the first installment, which will cover the steps of my character from Helgen Keep to the gates of Bleak Falls Barrow.

I almost always root for the underdog, so I'm helping the rebels on my first play through. I'm a Nord so it makes sense that I'm patriotic, right?

Well next time I run through I'll be needing to kill all Imperials in my sight.

As those barbaric Nords support the divinity of that heathen Tiber Septim, I support the Empire.

Plus the Aldmeri Dominion supports the Empire, so I will follow my governments decision as any good Altmer would. But I'll be damned before I see a man rule me, the empire should serve mer.

This is what my High Elf mage thinks.

I can't decide. On the one hand, the Nords following the Imperials are being such jackasses to the Nords who don't. But on the other hand, my mind keeps nagging at me that the head Stormcloak guy doesn't seem that much of a good guy either...getting a very Saruman feel from him.

Hehe I feel a little sheepish. I remember the choice being offered but I never really considered it I just kind of ran around till I found one of the guys. I went with the imperials in the end. I still haven't really made my decision, but I am playing a semi-evil pure mage. So I think I will just side with whoever offers me the most power and gold. So far that has been the imperials so we'll see how it turns out.

I don't even know what their sides are yet. As far as I can tell, the Imperials made it illegal for people in Skyrim to worship Talos for some reason, and the Stormcloak want to change that.

Edit: They give you a choice of who to follow at the beginning? I had no idea, I just followed the same guy I had been following.
