Agreed. I'm gay too and I actually have more straight male friends than gay friends if only because I can't stand the flaming.
...that and most gay guys don't play videogames or watch anime and the such.
So its not to say they don't exist, but by only showing the flaming stereotype suddenly everyone will assume ALL gay people are like that...i.e. walking dick jokes with a limp wrist.

Persona 4 and Fallout New Vegas are probably the only games that looked at it more realistically that come to mind.

I'm just annoyed that there even is a marriage feature in the game... Its never been a "lacking" feature of the Elder Scrolls games and has never actually added anything useful to any game ever.

I don't care about guys marrying guys in a game. I'm just annoyed that Bethesda considered this a worthy feature to include in a medieval type fantasy adventure game.

On the subject of another game (Mass Effect 3), i'm slightly worried that Shepard has all of a sudden decided he likes abit of bratwurst. It just seems so out of character for a character that hasn't shown any homosexual tendacies to this point (unless you count blue alien's as lesbians of course).

The logical explanation would be for Bioware to release a patch for both Mass Effect and ME2. That way making it fit.

I can already see people romancing Garrus. 'cause he's worth it.

As with that thread, considering the casual approach to sexuality and gay relationships that New Vegas had, its not surprising that the next Elder Scrolls game would be just as open.

I married my friend in Fable III, we're both male.
We lived in a forest filled with Balverines, with my other spouse.
If there was only one thing I liked about that game, it was the fun with friends.

I ended up being married to one female NPC and 2 of my friends at the same time.

Although it's an interesting feature implemented into few games these days. I don't think I will create a gay male character in Skyrim, at least not for my first character, because it will just feel strange to me as I'm not gay.

I thought the point of the Elder Scrolls games were to give you choice. I've only played Oblivion but I liked that you could do whatever you wanted with only a few limitations (like needing a certain level to get Daedric items like the skeleton key, but that's a balancing issue, not an accessibility issue). As long as they don't make it a requirement of a quest ("Go slay 20 mudcrabs and marry John from accounting to unlock this magical door") then what's the problem? You didn't 'need' to be able to become an assassin, or the head of the Thieves' Guild, but the option was still nice to have.

OT: I like this. After the news I've heard about them streamlining things (armour, abilities and what-not), it is nice that they are still trying to give more options to the player.

The only thought i have on this is that it's annoying this is even considered news. I mean, it hardly matters (would just like to say, this is not aimed at you, more at sites like Kotaku that feel the need to report this).

I'll be honest, i'm not a big fan of homosexuals, i don't mind them but i have no intrest in what they get up to. For a game to handle homosexuality correctly, it should not even come up if you play it as a hetrosexual. Likewise, if you would like to play as a homosexual, there should be no reprecussions, or indeed any prejudice against it.

Well saying that you want to make sure it's natural and at the same time saying that you want heterosexuality and homosexuality in two different dimensions essentially is a bit contradictory.

Whether you're playing a hetero character or a homosexual one you should be in a world populated by both preferences and depending upon the world itself, you should at least encounter people of both types who may try to make advances. And in some cases, people whose preferences differ from your own should be among those making advances either because they're dumb and can't read you, or they just like to flirt for fun, or maybe they're even trying to turn you and force you to be something you're not. And of course, some should just quit trying as soon as they know your preferences differ from theirs.

This was actually a huge problem I had with Fable II incidentally. After 30 women (and sometimes men) in every town wanted to marry me I thought getting married in the game would get most of them to stay the hell away from me. But it didn't. Which to me makes no sense. Yeah there would be some flousies who still want in my pants or whatever but a lot of people should've just quit begging me to marry them. Or at least, should have been begging me for something else.


Incidentally on the subject of homosexuality. If the pre-contemporary era is any indication, I suspect the middle ages was not particularly fond of what would have been then considered abnormal behaviour. When then will there be a game I wonder where if you play as a homosexual you basically need to keep it on the down low to avoid persecution. Instead of stealing into a house and taking belongings without getting noticed you'll need to steal into some privacy with your partner and avoid getting noticed. Though, given the seriousness of such a subject I suspect most games will avoid it.

You come up with very good points. If i'm being totally honest, i don't want homosexuality in my games, as i feel very uncomfortable with it if it's not someone i know very well.

Also i don't think game developers are putting it in for the correct reasons.

It almost seems to me like they are doing it for political correctness' sake, rather than to add something for the homosexual community. It's there for the sake of it, rather than to add any actual meaning and depth to the game/characters within the game.

If a game came along, with a realistic homosexual man/woman (not some curvacious woman who is pandering to the male demographic more than actual lesbians), then i'm sure it'd be an intresting game to play, and despite my reservations for homosexuality, i'd definatly give it a go.

However, i don't think game developers at this time have the skill/maturity to implement it properly.
