Yup. It's true. 100% totally, no BS true. Believe me or not, it happened.

I woke her up a bit ago, regaling her with my tales of slaying wizards and dragons and such while she had been foolishly sleeping, when I told her the tale of Narfi.

I won't spoil the quest here, but when you complete it, you are given a couple of options. These options, when described, turned my woman's eyes moist. To be honest, when they popped up in game, it gave me pause as well. Like, "Whoa... deep." pause.

Anyway, the tale, and my decision, soon brought her tears to life on full. Ok, not baaaaaaaaaw full on, but a few streamers. She was a trooper and held it back well, but they were there.

This wasn't a main character. This wasn't a main quest. This was five minutes after I discovered his village, so I had no emotional ties. I do now. I would smack a giant in the dick with a warhammer for Narfi.

Anyways, kudos Bethesda, for making the best game ever.

Topic of discussion; aside from FFVII/Aeris/Aerith, what video game moment has tugged on your heartstrings? And, has it happened in Skyrim to you yet?

Basically, he's a broken man, because his sister is missing. Mentally and emotionally scarred. The barkeep in town told him his sister would be back, that she was fine. Living on his own, without her ever returning broke his mind.

After the barkeep tells you where to search, (they found nothing during theirs) you locate the body in the river, along with a necklace. Returning the necklace to Narfi gives you the option to either tell him she's ok and will be home soon (further torturing his mind), or tell him she's dead. I thought telling him she was dead would let him move on, so that's what I did. Instead, he wailed, moaned and lamented never getting to tell her goodbye. He then walked off muttering something about sleeping no more.

Pretty heartbreaking.

Hmmm, now I'm curious cause I did this quest and nothing of note really happened. I'm definitely replaying this game a few times.

Edit: Also you woke your wife up to tell her about your videogame and she was fine with that? Kudos sir.

Don't have Skyrim (Yet), but the ending to Kingdom Hearts made me Bawww my eyes out, it was so bitter sweet.

That and I was 10 at the time, so I still believed in the whole "Everything is Ok again" ending for everything.

Second time I've mentioned NWN2 today...

The "sacrifice" ending to Mask of the Betrayer. You end a curse and save the soul of a man who never deserved the punishment he got. His soul is at rest, as is his lover's. However, he is bound to you, and you are unable to ever leave the Fugue Plane. Sure, you'll be honored for all eternity. But you give not only your life, but eternal soul.

That made me tear up a bit.

I second this motion especially since Skyrim is very far off with my current budget, by the time I play I'll long have forgotten.

Legion's loyalty mission in ME2, it wasn't particularly sad, but more a "whoa... deep" moment.

When it came to the ending of Deus Ex: Human Revolution I genuinely just sat staring at the screen for about 10 minutes because I had absolutely no idea what ending to go for, that was a very difficult choice.

Other than that, the ending's to both Halo: Reach, and Portal 2 tugged at my heartstrings a little.

Narfi ... The begger Narfi?

If it's the begger, you get a contract to kill him from the Dark Brotherhood.... I didn't realise he had a story, I just stuck an arrow in his face

You better be glad this game isn't an MMO, or I'd hunt your ass down. LOL

Considering what you've told us about his quest, killing him would probably be the kindest thing to do...

During Animal Crossing, I accidentally insulted one of the neighbors, Prince the Frog. I cried the rest of the day.

That's different from what I got.

I said the same thing, I told him the truth and give him the necklace and he moved on. Said he was glad he had the necklace to remember her by.

Ditto. Best moral choice system I've ever seen was the lack thereof. The only person that knows about your choice is you, and you don't have any +good or +evil option to know what the 'right choice' is for the game.

Legion's choice was disturbingly easy for me, and the sheer volume of people who say that it was a difficult one, even seeing it on Extra Credits made me wonder if my own way of thinking is so radically different that it just wasn't a hard call...or if I just viewed the geth differently.

I know the feeling man. Wounds like these never heal, they just fade a little bit.

Yes, I've noticed how things can play out differently in different playthroughs. My wife's game has had quite a few different things happen in similar situations.

Amaaaaaazinnnng! Talk about replayability. :)

The finale of Okami always tugs my heartstrings, with Issun's loyalty and tiny heroism.

The first was in my thread, wasn't it? I feel special!

OT: I remember when playing Heavenly Sword I came to a point where I had to fight this giant fat mentally handicapped oaf of a son to the villain. At a certain point, after you've been beating him pretty badly, we are treated to a cut-scene of the King (villain) calling him names and saying that he'll kill his son's pets. At this, he looks up at his father and states, almost heart broken, "NO! They're my only friends!" Suddenly a character that was little more than comic relief in a few scenes was a tragic character to me. I actually lost the fight at that point, because I felt so bad for him. I was happy to find that the hero didn't kill him at the end of the fight. Oh, but, if memory serves, you see him crying at the end of the fight. Yeah, I felt bad about fighting him.
