Seriously, I am the new serial killer in Windhelm, I stabbed some dude in an alley, then somehow some guards in the next street hear me. Or when I see a lone enemy sitting in a room, I take him out with an arrow, then suddenly the entire place goes up.

I know it is probably only a small thing, but it kinda ruins the whole stealth thing, not being able to totally silently take out an enemy.

Does anyone else want better stealth?

What sucks is when you try to stealth kill someone who is wearing plot armor. Seriously, it's OK to let me fail some side quests if I kill someone. There was an Argonian woman in Solitude who disrespected my psycopath character. So I followed her to a dark, quiet place and tried to kill her. But plot armor kicked in, and I was stuck with a bounty and a region full of angry guards.

Yeah, Skyrim's stealth mechanics are severely lacking. With a game as big as that though, there's bound to be things that could've been quite better.

Well obviously if a guy gets an arrow to the kneeneck suddenly, the guy next to him should get a little suspicious...

Granted, Skyrim's no Thief. But then, only Thief is Thief.

Also I never really had much trouble staying hidden. I assassinated that annoying Argonian in Solitude (the guy next to the stairs up to Castle Dour that always offers you a job) while a guard was coming down the stairs and managed not to get a bounty. Of course, I had to remove his essential flag first...and speaking of that...

I once spent about 20 minutes "killing" Ulfric over and over. The fun part was so long as I sheathed my weapon immediately, that other guy in the room didn't turn hostile.

Couldn't agree more, I loved the way when I was stealthing around I couldn't see enemies on my radar until after they were alerted to my presence.

Kind of killed my ability to plan ahead when an enemy I couldn't see behind a load of rubble spotted me from fifty miles away and shoved a broadsword up my anus.

There are mods for that, but plot armor is needed for the base game. Otherwise a randomly spawned dragon could heavily fuck shit up.

They could be much better about turning the plot armor off once they're no longer needed however.

That's funny because I thought stealth was broken in the totally opposite way. I forced myself to stop using stealth because it was making the game way too easy.

Primary Example: I would constantly go into a cave stealthy and run into a room full of bandits. Being the sneaky fella I am, I decide to pop one with an arrow from my hallway. The bandits figure out that something is off, seeing that their buddy just grew an arrow out of his chest and died, and go to investigate. They take about five steps into the hallway, grow bored, and figure that it was just their imagination (I guess they dreamed their now-dead friend on the ground?).

I thought this thread was going to be about how stealth is too easy! Seriously, I have a decently high level assassin character with a good dagger and the dark brotherhood gloves, and I can easily go through an entire dungeon and slit everyone's throats without being seen once. Even when there's another person standing right next to the person whose throat I am currently slitting. It is fun though :D

EDIT:

Also this ^ but with arrows on harder difficulties it's not so easy to instakill everyone with sneak attacks.

I agree, but it'd probably require a whole new engine. Stealth games are built based on stealth mechanics, while in TES, it seems like it's added in well after the majority of the engine is built.

I was actually more disappointed when I stab someone and then his buddies just go about their business. I'm fine with them not seeing me, but I'd prefer they have some sort of reaction once I'm restealthed - like the Batman Arkham mechanic.

Indeed. Rescue! [http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10456]

Makes the stealth experience more rewarding overall, and reduces the overpowered stealth problem that you will get in level 20+. Because OP, despite your low stealth woes it becomes stupidly easy later on... I recommend you try going unmodded first just to see for yourself :p

BETTER stealth?

If I stab someone in the back whilst being sneaky-sneaky I get 30x damage. THIRTY FUCKING TIMES EXCLAMATION MARK.

Stealth in Skyrim is glorious.
