My most epic fight was fighting 10 Draugr Deathlords at once. Sure, it was a big area so I could run and dodge, but it took a lot of concentration. This was outside a ruin you get to as part of the main quest.
Ahh yes, I've just completed that level for the second time. I found the multiple Deathlords quite challenging, even at a high level. Although I did have a bit of fun...I just ran around until there were several by a high ledge and then just FUS ROH DAH-ed them off the edge. So much fun!

Then of course an Elder Dragon and a Frost Dragon ganged up on me which was also quite a hairy battle.

There was one wizard that took me ages to kill. I had no other saves as i saved it just before the boss without realising that the door gets locked behind you - which i didnt find out until i decided to run away and try something else. To late, by then i had a main save and a quicksave in a locked room with a boss wizard and minions. Took forever.

Dragon Age Origins on the higher difficulties for PC. It's the only game that has evoked the same, consistent feeling of accomplishment after every major encounter. Every major fight fels like a major fight. You need to properly line up all of your spells and properly place all of our AOE spells (because friendly fire is active). You need to use poisons/traps/resistance pots. You need to position your party carefully. You need to take advantage of the pause and play mechanic. No game has done tactical boss battles as well as it has, in my opinion.
Baldur's Gate 2 my friend.

Boss battles are intense and unforgiving easy on easy difficulties.

Bodhi, Lich in Spellhold, Demogorgon, Firkraag, Irenicus, Demilich, Twisted Rune, Slaver Lords. Battle after epic battle. So epic, and so challenging.

Dragon Age did do battles well though.
The Baldurs gate 2 bosses didnt give me any problems, though I was playing a Paladin who kicks major ass which might be why I didn't have many issues.

Wait.. its Skyrim. Does that not mean that the hardest boss in Skyrim is pathetically inept when compared to the first boss in say Demon or Dark Souls?

Do people actually play Bethesda RPGs for the the challenge? I thought the point of a Bethesda RPG was the story or was that Bioware? Wait whats the point of Bethesda RPGs again?

Almost every single boss in Dark Souls feels epic due to the magnificent degree of challenge present.

I wish I could get this experience in Skyrim. I play on Master and don't even abuse blacksmithing/enchanting and have some difficulty/AI mods installed and I still can never get a good boss fight. It is always hugely underwhelming.

Really? I found them much harder. For one, if your PC died, you were dead. That was game over, no more battles. Secondly, your characters got gibbed or shattered or disintegrated, they were gone. FOREVER. No more character. That hit pretty hard cos you had to be careful to keep people fully healed. In Dragon Age there's less consequence for that.

Dragon Age you could win with a few buffs and damage and positioning. BG was harder cos there were saving throws etc. that had to be influenced and Time Stop and large amounts of summons and immunities. It was really complex but also really fun.

DA was good, but not really a challenge to me. BG even on easy was very hard.

My best experience with boss fights was trying to kill Lu Bu for the first time in Dynasty Warriors 4.

Ahhh, I remember all those countless attempts like it was yesterday...

Sure they are. But nothing wrong with the occasional challenge, hm?

Yeah, Skyrim has its epic boss moments. My "favourite" experience was

Mercer; the first enemy besides Forsworn I'd encountered who dual-wielded and to be honest, I'd rather have three briarhearts after my head. He hits like a freight train and can go invisible. I personally felt he was a good challenge, because he was effectively me, but with invisibility; I could slaughter him on impact, but only if he didn't get me first

Other good challenges were;
x4 Draugr Deathlords and a named Dragon Priest; that was a rather unpleasant fight, especially with all the FUS RO DAHing and uber-magic.

x2 Draugr Deathlords and a Draugr Death Overlord; aside the FUS RO DAH, they took frightening amounts of health off in close combat.

Oh and the end of Forbidden Legends was a pain; three hardcore bosses in a row...

Not at all, as a fan of the Souls games I adore challenge, So the suggestion there might be something in Skyrim that could possibly render a challenge gives me hope for when Skyrim is fully released in 2014

Doesn't anyone encounter that teleport dude in skyrim? That guy is freaking hard if you are low level.
I think I fought him on the hardest setting while I was under level 20... Found him to be pretty easy from a certain position and enough patience to pick up the fucking bow all the time. But then again, dodging prohectiles is my game (I play games like Serious Sam on a regular basis so I can recognize attack patterns and usefull environmental pieces pretty fast).

Well, I honestly can just point out to the following guy:

If you don't find the jetpack... you're screwed. And there is no indication towards it. This guy oneshots you by simply stepping on you. And the fact that he is supported by the toughest enemies in this game EN MASSE doesn't make it easier
What on earth... O.O only one thing can kill that thing...

OT: I have had a few tough boss battles, Trypticon on Transformers WFC on hard setting was a pain in the arse, countless boss's on Skyrim, however the toughest of them all was a boss on i believe Spyro the Dragon for PS1...

Can't remember the name of him, but he would ALWAYS kill me with an area effect attack which was a piss take to avoid, never managed to beat him in my 4 years of trying, eventually had to give up cause my PS1 stopped working, but damn he was a ***** :(

They Fus Ro Dah me around like a ragdall for most of the fight, but they didn't do much damage to me.
They might do more against my mage, though.

Fallout 3, being blindsided by a Deathclaw while I was just strolling along was pretty harrowing the first time

Virgil, last boss fight in DevilMayCry3 on Dante Must Die mode. So many many epic fights in my many attempts, learning to intercept/dodge many of his moves. Boss fights being important for me; I especially like when the story invokes emotion through the character's battle, heightening the experience. Knowing what becomes of Virgil always makes victory bittersweet.

Boss fight music is usually the best in the game for me :p

Runners Up: Xenosaga Episode III - last boss(I didn't want that series to end :(..main reason)
Tales of Symphonia - Loyde vs Kratos
Metroid Prime Series - MOST fights
House of the Dead 2 - Magician

....Oh oh oh !!! And Orcina of Time - Ganon. DUHHH

I had three dragons appear. No console commands either. That was intense.

Ironically, Mass effect 1's ending boss, Saren, was definitly a hairy fight, I blame the fact that hearing my shield's siren go off can make things intense while reviving Wrex and Garrus over and over again.

Gears of war 3's horde mode bosses can be intense with the right set ups. Wave 50 against a god damned Brumak?
lambent zerker is much harder especially on insane

I remember just doing random dungeon dives in Skyrim without looking up the information about the dungeon. Ran into a Draugr that summoned Ice atronachs and had a shitload of health. Next thing I know the atronach has be down to a sliver of health, my magica is gone, and I am fleeing for my life through the cave with him and several other high level draugr in persuit. I should have realized that something was up when I had to find two replica weapons to unlock the door.

Level 44, Deadly Dragons, Wars in Skyrim, Shout Cooldowns reduced by 75%, Thuu'mic voice activated shouts, my two legendary daggers only hit for 90, Only high resistance was frost, and not even invisible will allow me to get stealth on this dragon, I use health potions under a self imposed 'overdose' system where I refuse to utilize more then I feel healthy to my character and won't mix multiple buff effects due to my 'complications' theory that it would be bad for you to mix the active ingredients of opposite alchemical mixtures.

I fought a Wyrm, this thing was nigh immune to damage, took me over an hour of reloading to finally get a successful victory by timing out the Feim (Become Ethereal) shout to block his instant kill breath attacks and take preemptive melee hits, hiding in towers to drop aggro, and using the sprinting critical strike for double damage. My single successful stealth power attack
(Base damage+Dual Savagery+Standing Power Attacks x Assassin x hits in the dual power attack)
(90+50%+25%x15x3=7593.75 Damage)

Dealt only 20% of this dragons health bar, I could NOT for the life of me get a second stealth crit and had to fight this things remaining 30,000 effective health (Hp multiplied by damage resistance such as armor) in fair combat with the max damage I could achieve being a few hundred points at a time when everything it did was capable of instantly killing me except its ice magic.
