Skyrim for SIZE.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning for game play, story, graphical STYLE, and no (as far as I've found) QUEST ENDING GLITCHES.

Amalur

combat doesn't suck and you can actually FOLLOW the story.

also, not made by Bethesda so chances are infinitely higher it's potential 'bug problems' isn't rendering it unplayable

To be honest, if you liked DA:O for its story and depth, then both will leave you wanting.
If Oblivion wasn't your cup of tea, Skyrim won't appeal to you.
Not to mention, the gameplay of both is a for cry from DA:O, and easily broken in Skyrim, and too fucking easy in KoA:R.
If you really want to give one a try, go for Skyrim.
But be warned that, given what you're looking for in an RPG, you may want to give The Witcher 2 a shot instead.

Skyrim every time from me.

While both games are horribly lacking in terms of story, Skyrim simply does everything better and doesn't look like World of Warcraft. (With the exception of sword and spell based combat - though it's archery is a bajillion times better.)

When it comes to which game is better, go for the one that was game of the year and not the one where there's an online pass for an offline game.

You enjoyed Dragon Age: Oranges' storyline and characters? Err... neither Skyrim nor KoA has those...
Finally! Someone else who says "oranges" instead of "origins"!
I haven't played Alamur, but I love Skyrim.
Is Dark Souls an option? Dark Souls is my favorite game of all time. And it gives you that hero/prophesy feeling, with a twinge of moral ambiguity, and incredible multiplayer. And I'd be happy to guide a new player under my golden phantom. Wow, that sounded oddly sexual.

Kingdoms of Amalur is a fun game. But it gets repetitive really fast. The world doesn't feel alive and real like Skyrim and you can tell the game was supposed to be an MMO.

Skyrim feel alive. It's a huge world and you can be whoever you want. You don't have to do any quests if you don't want to in order to explore the world. You are absolutely free from the moment the tutorial section ends. It's just an immersive game. I spent dozens of hours just running around, exploring that rich world.

Screw them both...

Instead get

DRAGONS DOGMA

DA:O being in my 'Top Three RPGs' as well I'd have to say there's a chance you might like it.

Or I guess Skyrim is a safe bet... Never played Amular but I had some pretty high recommendations that I play it so yeah.

Skyrim has finally good combat but KoA has better.
KoA has somewhat repetitive quests but still hundred times better than Skyrim (real disappointment from Bethesda).
KoA has relativly closed world (not as fable, more like WoW without flying mounts), Skyrim s open but rather empty.
Skyrim has dull gray graphics, KoA graphics are colorful and epic.
Crafting in Skyrim is set, you only need to get materials while in KoA you combine materials however you want.

I was surprised that something has beaten Skyrim this early but this is how I see it. KoA is far more concentrated fun and I did every single side quest I stumbled upon in game and it never stopped being fun.

Also I dont understand people who say KoA repetitive compared to Skyrim, 99% quests in both game are GO KILL SOMEONE and if thats the case, I think one with better combat gets the cookie.

I would go for Amalur simply because the gameplay is much better in my opinion. While Skyrim has some improvements to melee combat it still consists mainly of tapping the attack button repeadeatly, while Amalur inocorporates the possibility of equipping two weapons, combos, dodges and timed parries. I'm not to far in the story, mostly because every-freaking-where I go I stumble upon at least 2 new quests on my way to completing another one... So content isn't lacking.

Skyrim has a way cooler world, especially if you like the whole viking aesthetic, which I do, and it's also got freaking dragons, which is always cool. Other than that I haven't really found much allure in Skyrim TBH...

Get them both.
Then get Dragon's Dogma.

Skyrim does the sandbox thing much better, and Amalur does story(if it matters to you) much better.
Also Amalur is a bit more colorful than Skyrims grim and frostbitten crags.

KOA has better combat but that's about it. You play Skyrim for the awesome world and the endless replay value (if you roleplay that is).

If any sort of RPG tingles your tastebuds, I would have to say both.

Amalur felt to me like a really good 3D Zelda or Fable (1) clone, with splendid skill tree and fighting systems, that give you pretty much total control of the battlefield and your way of implementing all your skills and roll your own mix of everything.

Skyrim is bigger in scope and less comic-y in appearance, and its skill system might be a little less visual and a bit harder to get a grip on at first, but it's just as rewarding once you've figured it out and settled for a strategy. Some dungeons/caves/enemy encounters might feel a bit repetitive in Skyrim, but I consider this to be a minor gripe, as it's nowhere near as in-your-face offensive as in DA II.

They are both proper, good games and they both give you a lot of freedom to build your character any way you want, be it a warrior type with superhuman bow skills, a magically enhanced rogue or a freakin' tankin' battlemage - in Skyrim it's all pretty much WYSIWYG from the get-go, Amalur has some fun bonus perks depending on how you decide to dedicate or spread your points. The expansions to Amalur might not offer excessive fun, as you'll probably reach the level cap well before getting to the endgame already. Skyrim's dev is alive and kicking, and they've handed the user base the best thing to happen since LEGO, so if you're PC, Skyrim is a must no questions asked. If you're console, Skyrim is still a splendid game, but there will probably be bugs and tings.

Disclaimer: I absolutely loathe and hate Dragon Age II

YES THIS ONE.

Why was this game soooo far under the radar, I only really heard enough to give it a go about a couple of weeks ago but it's has stupidly fun combat; shooting fire arrows at a griffin till it plummets to the ground and then grabbing hold of it's leg just before it soars off, climbing your way up it's back to it's head (while still flying through the air)then stabbing the living hell out of it till both you and the now dead griffin plummet to the ground in an exhilarating frenzy...Fantastic.

In a lot of ways it's better that a Capcom produced western-style RPG has any real right to be.

Dragon's Dogma is a good game worth playing, but nowhere near the amount of content offered in Amalur or Skyrim.

Definitely worth checking out, especially for Dragon Age folks; to me, it felt a bit too raw around the edges. Loved the ride, though.

I was bored of KoA after very little time and gave up on it entirely after 5-6 hours of play. Boring, bland, uninspired, uninteresting and tedious. It's single-player WoW and simply not worth a full price purchase. Skyrim on the other hands a great world to be sucked into. With so much to see and do and many ways in which to see and do them you'll kill many hours (and bandits) in Skyrim.

kingdoms of amalur is good at the start, but after 6 hours of gamplay i was insanely bored because i was already the unstoppable warrior so it was basically a huge boring rampage through the world with absolutely no challenge.

dragon age; origins basically has everything. good plotline, good characters, good combat and it wasn't a cakewalk after you complete basic training. skyrim is a tad easier but still very good.
for skyrim and ulfric! FUS RO DAH!
