Not much more to be said that isn't in the title, but seriously, how pissed off would you be if you were the head of marketing for MW3, or (lulz go here, because this has to be a shit job) the head of marketing for BF3.

"Skyrim?s rocketed to 231,593 players (as of writing) during its first 24 hours. For reference, Modern Warfare 3′s currently in distant second at 78,161. That?s sort of, you know, insane. It?s probably also a record number of people concurrently falling to their knees, gazing up into the falling rain, and cursing a single interface designer?s name."

Slightly unfair, I don't mind the interface. That much. Well, mostly.

This doesn't count consoles, so it's hardly beaten modern warfare 3 as that's basically made for the xbox 360. The majority of those who play MW3 don't really play pc, with obvious exceptions that I'm positive someone will quote me on unless I put this here, but it's still a minority.

Isnt skyrim-PC steam exclusive whereas MW3 can be played on pc without steam?
No, Modern Warfare 3 uses Steamworks, meaning all PC Versions are locked to Steam.

I noticed the figures earlier, snapped this, and had to laugh.

I was under the impression that while I'm sure CoD sells just fine on PC, their major market was consoles which would make this not at all surprising...

If only Skyrim was also available on consoles. Oh wait.

Skyrim is far from PC exclusive. It's a typical console game with an uninspired, half assed PC port tacked on for a few extra $$....Same as call of duty it was originally a PC oriented series, but has radically changed direction sometime before the release of the current console generation.

As implied above, neither games main target is PC gamers. If anything, call of duty is more heavily marketed to PC gamers, with the communities built around it (servers, clans, tournaments etc), single player RPGs have none of that appeal (though TES games traditionally do sport pretty impressive mod construction packs for the PC, there has been none released so far to my knowledge).

I like how Counter-Strike is still on there despite being like 12 years old...<.<

CoD has always been a more console orientated FPS, the only reason I didn't bother getting it this time is because I no longer have an Xbox, PC version? Not feeling it.

On another note, after about 30 minutes I fell in love with the new UI, seriously that favourites menu is amazing and it's all very unobtrusive, helps with immersion for me at least.

TBH I large part of the elder scrolls fanbase has been on PC, especially since the previous elder scrolls games are either PC only or have been designed really well for PC. I think this is the first that hasn't really done as much of a good job...

...Yet I like it more than oblivion.

A large part of the PC following is the user generated content. Mods that aren't all about turning a game into some desperate loser's sex fantasy are usually pretty good.

your forgetting to count the people playing singleplayer CoD, but still its a shame to see die hard PC game series go this way. /sadface

Why would the MW3 head of marketing care? Their PC copies of the CoD games are regularly their lowest selling version, whereas for games like the elder scrolls the PC is probably their highest seller.
Really an odd comparison to make.
Now if we were talking MW3 vs another shooter (say BF3 even though that horse is beaten to death) then yea it would be an interesting comparison.

Skyrim is good and all, but I severely doubt the people behind Modern Six and a Half Million Sold in One Day Warfare 3 are feeling particularly threatened by it.

Dude, as impressive as the modding community is for the Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim has only just been released...so no mods yet, but give it a month or so and some mods will begin cropping up. And then....more will follow.

There is actually a heap of mods already out. Granted, they aren't very. . .well, "note-worthy", I guess, considering the SDK still isn't out, but you still gotta admire the swiftness of the PC community.

Anyway, congrats goes to BethSoft for a) making an amazing RPG and b) making an amazing RPG that tops even "the most anticipated game of all time".

See here Mr MW3, here on the PC we take quality in our games in account and we actually CHANGE the game in our series and improve on them... and you know, design a new engine.... Actually do things to make a game better other than adding a shiny new campaign.
