People saying MW3 is aimed at consoles should note that BethSoft believe their greater sales will also be on consoles. What I found more interesting was the peak and drop of MW3 players, indicating a lot of people got it, played it, then went off to play something better.

your forgetting to count the people playing singleplayer CoD, but still its a shame to see die hard PC game series go this way. /sadface
Go the way of having more players than its greatest (current) competitor? What's wrong with that?

See here Mr MW3, here on the PC we take quality in our games in account and we actually CHANGE the game in our series and improve on them... and you know, design a new engine.... Actually do things to make a game better other than adding a shiny new campaign.

Really don't want to do this to you. But here. Look up the gamebryo engine. Now look up which games it's been used for. I'll wait.

Bethesda aren't completely free from the engine reusal :p They even copied a lot of features from GB into the Creation engine for Skyrim.

Well, considering this, I'm fairly sure the head of MW3's marketing is feeling pretty damned pleased with himself right about now. It's not ever day that you get to sit back and say to yourself, "you know what? I nailed that like a fucking boss".

Doesn't matter to me how many copies MW3 sold. It's the multiplayer shooter for the console crowd. What actually matters to me is that more people were playing a solid single player only RPG that than it in it's launch week following its record smashing sales.

What Skyrim has shown us is: there is still hope for this medium. Call of Duty might sell a metric fuck load of copies, but it's fire-and-forget multiplayer is second choice when something truly epic drops. 5 times as many gamers wanted to play Skyrim than the hottest shooter on the planet. This, honestly, puts a smile on my face. Maybe I've been wrong about gamers: maybe, just maybe, we're not all fucking retards sucking on Activision Blizzard's overpriced tit.

I think Bethesda should be proud: they did what Battlefield 3 couldn't hope to do - they pulled people out of Call of Duty.

That is pretty impressive but I'll say again, stuff like this doesn't need a thread... use one of the hundred of other Skyrim threads.

Bethesda believes their target audience will be on console, but i think they will sell MUCH more on Pc, because it's Elder Scrolls.
Elder Scrolls game had and have the most impressive Mod community and i heard many console gamers saying that they will buy skyrim for pc because of the mods.

And it will always be there. Once MW3 and gets boring you'll see more CS players than CoD players again.

This one time, I imagined a world where gaming wasn't infested with fucking retards. Then I saw posts like yours and was saddened by how far we still have to go before gamers stop being overly bitchy and moronic elitist fucksticks with their heads shoved so far up their arse that they can't accept a game they don't like is a best-seller, so they just revert to the old "hurr hurr, they be retarded and stuff".

That sort of attitude just leaves me quite perplexed. I mean, did a group of Call of Duty players go out and beat some of you? 'cause that's the only reason I can find for this mindlessly retarded sort of hate that is going on. Seriously, it's not as if other games have stopped being released just because CoD has nailed a formula that appeals to so many people. In fact, I seem to remember this Skyrim game coming out that a whole lot of other people have gone on to play. And yet I am yet to see a single "HURR HURR, GO BACK TO CALL OF DUTY 'CAUSE SKYRIM IS TEH GAYZ" sort of thing. CoD players are just too retarded to use keyboards, amiright?

It is nice to see it doing well.

It just shows there is still quite a large market for games like the TES series and the Fallouts so hopefully we'll have more to come.

Don't get me wrong, I don't play the CoD or BF games but I don't hate them. I'm just more of an RPG kinda guy and like to think that with Skyrim doing well, they will make more like it in the future.

Trust me, their biggest audience is DEFINITELY the PC, but that doesnt mean thats where they get the most sales.
In fact, its where they get the least.

Sorry champ, but the success of World of Warcraft, Call of Duty and all things "accessible" has managed to literally ruin and drive every one of my favourite series into the ground, bar one: The Elder Scrolls. Before these games, companies were happy to have moderate success. After them, if the game doesn't break a million sales on launch day, the developers are fired without payment and their studio closed down.

The player themselves did nothing wrong, however when I'm standing in line to collect my copy of Skyrim, and I'm surrounded by the walking Call of Duty Player Stereotype, literally saying - and I'm quoting - "why would anyone buy a game with no guns and no multiplayer? Fucking faggots" you'll have to forgive me if I'm more than a little happy to see something else succeed.

It's not matter of being elitest, it's a matter of living in a world where every franchise, every series, every IP, and every game is going for the FPS Shooter Reboot. And, finally, we have a game succeed on a large scale that isn't a FPS, and isn't dumbed down to a linear string of quick time events.

If only Skyrim was also available on consoles. Oh wait.
My point was one of popularity, not of availability.

Generally because it's amazingly fun.

And unsurprisingly, a game this anticipated is obviously going to be top of any played list.

And also, by 8:00pm GMT, it had over 7000 seeders on the Pirate Bay, I didn't download it, I just wanted to see how massive Skyrim's seeders were.

I wonder how many others are playing offline?

I set steam to offline as it was crashing my game every so often when it decided to send me a message about something I don't care about!

If anything, call of duty is more heavily marketed to PC gamers, with the communities built around it (servers, clans, tournaments etc), single player RPGs have none of that appeal (though TES games traditionally do sport pretty impressive mod construction packs for the PC, there has been none released so far to my knowledge).
Dude, as impressive as the modding community is for the Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim has only just been released...so no mods yet, but give it a month or so and some mods will begin cropping up. And then....more will follow.
Yeah, oh I'm not saying that there won't be a sizable mod community, but as of yet it hasn't had a chance to start (the toolkit hasn't been released has it? The game itself hasn't even been released everywhere yet...). Compared to MW3s instant kick off of servers, clans and tournaments, the PC community is less catered for with Skyrim than they are with MW3 . The mod aspect of the skyrim community is going to be slow moving and only appeal to a small fraction of the games targetted demographic, the same is true of clans and tournaments in MW3, but pretty much every PC gamer I know has a tendancy to play on the same servers with the same map rotations and their buddies (it's one of the main reasons for choosing to play PC rather than console).

Ultimately, my point is, that Skyrim is by no stretch a PC oriented game. Both call of duty and Skryrim are primarily console focused games. Both have PC specific differences from their console counterparts (as they must to be able to compete on the PC market). If Skyrim sells better on PC, it is likely that it will also sell better on console.

Sad thing is it's a buge wasted effort on the part of the pirates. They will no doubt make bethesda feel hard done by, and a lot of them will probably uninstall the game after 5 minutes when they open the ingame menu :\

I don't really know what you want to say. It kinda sounds like you're implying that pc gamers are all game pirates and that's just not true.

I was so proud yesterday when of the 11 friends I had online: 7 were on skyrim, 1 on ME2, 1 on BF3, 1 on staints row 2 and only 1 on MW3.
Also I'm pleased that skyrim has done so well on PC.
