Your relationship with other people has always been a part of the elderscrolls series. It's the reason Personality is an attribute and speechcraft is a skill.

This just means that you can take it to the next level. There is no loss, only gain from this feature.

Oh, yay, I can't wait to perform a manly arm pump in the middle of the village and instantly get every single villager, male and female, hounding my tracks trying to force a ring on my finger.

Well, if it's done right-and right now I don't see Bethesda screwing up-it should be a cool addition. I think I'll spend more time luring 'friends' out of their villages only to have them die horrible deaths as I paralyze them in combat just to laugh as they die. Hey, playing as an evil character is just more fun.

I think this would be more out of place in a new Fallout game than in Skyrim.

I wonder if this was added so you could perhaps marry royalty for a quest in the main quest line.

Good, now when I come back from a hard day of dungeoning, I have a woman to make my tea and give me a massage.

Too misogynistic?

Mods, mods and mods. I can bet they will fix that. Well, if you're a PC gamer, anyway.

Uhm.

And?

To me, this is a positive thing. There is nothing that i can see that is nessicaraly WRONG with more content. So, you can get married to a NPC? So?

Dont like it, dont do it! its that simple!

Read the full article and... My faith in Skyrim just went from a 9/10 to about a 5/10...

Everything keeps basically saying "like Oblivion, but with these changes" hell you might as well have just downloaded a bunch of mods for Oblivion/turned Skyrim into an extended DLC -_-

I am also sad to keep hearing the "we're dumbing this down for simplicity" arguement. The whole thing with the Elder Scrolsl series is that it wasn't -MEANT- to be simplistic. Giant worlds, tons of interaction from the environment, I like that the game has a story but... I've always played Elder Scrolls games for the self-made RP and environment, not the story...

Also kinda annoyed abouth ow they've basically said that "they don't like the Morrowind Scheme" when Morrowind was, by far, a much -MUCH- better game. If you ask a lot of reviewers, they'll probably agree.

I don't doubt sales will be good, but if they keep dumbing down their games, they're going to find the profits for their games going down too... Elder scrolls is one of the few good fantasy ye old RPG games with modern outlooks to date, please don't ruin something that has been given to you on a silver platter, Bethesda, or your fans are going to take that platter and shove it where the sun don't shine.

one thing thats different here, your can adventure and DO THINGS with your SPOUSE! :O

in fable they DO NOTHING! its like X-com your solder's are blank slates, but over time you develop emotional attachments cause of what they do/did cause that defines them. like them have their minds made of snotty tissue paper and they get mind controlled and blow away like 5 of your units. or they make the most unlikely shot in the worlds and they do and save the day! or even better taking 10 shots of plasma fire to the chest and still firing away him/herself screaming "BRING IT ON BITCHES! *cackle*"

if i get married in this game and my wife ADVENTURES with me then memorable moments will be made, she may save your ass so hard your like "oh my god, thank you so much honey! you saved my life,i knew it was a good idea that you and me got together! :D" or you have many moments like that and you have the emotional bond then she dies...you tried everything in your power to save her life, but you failed and all you have it the corpse of your once living wife...that cooked for you, cleaned for you,had many adventures with, that you knew that she always watched your back no matter what...

THAT is why it will WORK in Skyrim.because it adds THIS to the game not like fable...in fable when you get married they add nothing, and do nothing, you were better off just marrying that patch of dirt or that rock over there, you know the one with the moss and the unidentifiable brown spot that you wish you knew but didnt know for sure...see in that sentence that ROCK had more too it then the faceless nameless ones in fable.

thats another thing these people in Skyrim HAVE A NAME!

so thats why i think it will work. geez people, this isnt Peter Molyneux here, have some FAITH!

I completely agree with you there, my only problem with this is a small waste of resorces, but nothing major, seriously this isnt going to ruin the game, they probably spent less than 1% of time and money on this and likely can be easily ignored

but as someone said my real concern with Skyrim is that they continue to get rid of armour slots and have it like Fallout 3's system rather than Morrowind's, and considering how many fans wanted the Morrowind system of having each piece of armour seperate this is a retarded decision

Cool, right?
Also if you allow yourself to be immersed in the game how cool would it be to have a character, a warrior for example that goes into battle and adventure while his faithful wife awaits at home? Or to rescue her from bandits for example? They are not simply going to make a spouse system without character development. I think this adds a whole new dimension of immersion, and it's not something you have to do anyway. Those of us who like the idea are excited to see how it's executed. I don't understand how someone can moan about added content. It's TES, you don't have to do anything you don't want to.

Don't bother complaining about it, as many other have said It's optional and it may be a pain but as long as I don't HAVE to do it or have some sex interest following me around half the game I don't care, but you better be able to kill them and kill or send away your children or at least get rid of them. It's really just an extra feature which some will like and others won't but who really cares about it?

Same here. There is just too much money in casuals to ignore them. I don't think we will ever get a proper RPG-style game from Bethesda again.

I mean, c'mon, RPGs have never been about player skill and are all about the stats that represent your character. Morrowind NAILED it where your character could be weak, and no amount of skillful playing could compensate for that. Yet it still offered the feeling that the player was the character, so they would know what they could handle and what they couldn't. Yet despite all that, Skyrim seems oblivion-bent on making the game a hack-'n-slash with virtually no RPG elements. Why even call it a RPG then?
ACTUALLY:

Morrowind had nice lore but poor main quest design and it was TOO hardcore on the rpg skills system with too long travelling time. It did got the charactarezation right, you cant be, say a thief and kill everyone like it happens with games nowdays.

I guess what they try to do in oblivion is provide a simplier control/stats theme and make it more fps/action like, more fable/bioshock if you wish.

The question is, will they get the roleplaying right? But as far as i can say at this state peopel who loved morrowind for being a hardcore rpg and bashed oblivion for being dumbed down and consolish, will discover a fable/mass effect2/bioshcok here and not a proper sequel to morrowind that will pay up for oblivion infact it will make oblivion look like a "complex" rpg.

Then even Conan would mock you, as he usually wore armor in the original Robert E. Howard material.

you can also say that skrim will have sims like features or mass effect like features or any game were you can relationships with npc's. I hope it doesn't turn out like god of war were nearlly every 3d hack and slasher is described as 'like god of war but...'.

OT: easily ignored if you don't like it, I mean for the most part skyrim looks like oblivion+ with very few reductions (thought I don't think they should be taking away any rpg elements as all there stats and skills actually have a noticeable effect on the game).

Woot, good to know housing is back. Don't care much for friends or marriage though, but we'll see how it plays out, could be interesting depending on how they implement it.

Come on! The more stuff they put in the game, the more modding may be performed.

And thats the real beauty of the game; if everyone pans one such system or feature (the persuasion minigame, for instance) it at least provides an avenue for rapid modding.

I think it's going to be something like between Mass Effect's romances and Fallout's companions.
Imagine having a companion character like you did in Fallout 3,but with romantic scenes, and them not have to follow you around all the time, but being able to stay on your house.
If done correctly,it will be a nice touch I think.

If this is true they better do it correctly and correct the mistake that Lionhead have created, make me actually have feelings for them!
Also the good part sounds like we get more houses so YAY!
I loved the houses in Oblivion, it was one of the best features for me, it made me gets heaps of gold to get everything to make the house look awesome.

Don't really see the new features as much of a problem. I wasn't really much of a fan of the dialogue pie option of making friends where you would tell 4 jokes and maybe threaten NPCs a little before they called you their "bestest bud evar!" THAT actually was more Fable-like than the alternative, making the friendship mechanics of NPCs a little more engaging only seems like a plus.

Besides, you could probably make an NBC serial out of all the different Player-NPC companion combinations that this will likely spawn. "One's a grizzled, veteran Adventurer close to retirement. The other is a young hot-blooded, street smart Innkeeper with homicidal tendencies. Together they form an unlikely duo in an attempt to trace down a Skooma distributing organization that could go as high as the Captain of the Imperial Guard! Will they be able to stop him in time before a sixteen year old girl pairs them up in a homo-erotic fanfiction? You be the judge."

Ditto on that. I miss the clothing complexity of Morrowind, where each armor piece was separate and you could mix and match them however you liked. That and the ability to wear cloaks over armor.
