I kid you not when I say Skyrim's map has broken my Xbox.

Today, while changing games, My brother was taking Skyrim out. Suddenly, The Map that comes with the game fell out, landing in the disk-tray while it was still opening. After a nauseatingly bad grinding noise. After trying a few different tactics, we decided that the disk tray had been disconnected from something on the inside.

Fuck you Skyrim Map, Fuck you.

That out of the way, anybody have an idea on how to fix it myself? For informational purposes, it is the Xbox360 that comes packaged with the Kinect.

That's a new xbox and therefore should still be under warranty. Call Microsoft.
I did.

They said the warranty covered it, however it would take 4 weeks just to get it from where i Live to the repair center, and god knows how long to repair and get it back to me.

I did this to a computer drive once. The solution was to pull the tray as far out as it can go, force it back onto it's track, and force it back in. After that it could once again open and close on its own, and read disks.

My disk tray has issues opening and closing.

Oddly enough, both are solved by pushing it in.

Then again, my is only a little bit out before it stops. Not sure about that.

Seek entertainment elsewhere while it's in, I suppose?

I pretty much researched Fallout 3, as my 360 pretty much exploded after I downloaded Point Lookout.

Gods, I have no life.

Check your local game shops. Many will do repairs. This will void your warranty, however, and it won't be free though it is usually fairly cheap.

Wow. That must be the most physical Skyrim glitch so far.

You're still on warranty, I strongly suggest you send it in.

You cannot simply replace the drive yourself, and "fixing it" Cuba-style in its current state would most probably mean to shove the tray back in with some force, so - if you're lucky - the tray gets in a proper position again. But that's really just a second-to-last resort, recommended for an out-of-warranty 360, as you probably don't even know the make and model of your drive... and you don't know what other flimsy little bits (tiny black rubber band et al) might have gone poof in your little acrobatics stunt.

If it's all vanilla and under warranty, send it in. Even if you knew what you were doing, why run the risk of making things even worse?

I feel sorry for you dude! That sounds like it sucks, especially if it was fairly new! 4 weeks sounds steep though, have you asked microsoft if they have a certified engineer lcal that you could take it to yourself to cut out the shipping times?

It also seems to prove why Skyrim is played so much by people! It's like the game is possessed and deliberately broke your xbox out of spite, just because you tried to change the disk!

I'm not entirely sure how it would even be possible to send in given that the problem is the tray is stuck open. You can't rightly fit it in a mailing box without either totally removing the tray or slamming it back into the 360, which would either work or void your warranty in the first place. Even if you got a very large box and wrapped up the 360, chances are the disc tray would be snapped off during the trip.

You won't void your warranty by forcing the tray back in, it's just a problem because it might take slightly longer to fix because you might break something else inside. Try and do it with a minimum of force and it'll be fine.

Send it in. It's still under warranty and Microsoft service in these cases is always good (I've used them myself and my friends say the same).

Plus, you get cool packaging foam when they send it back to you; like a solid "case" for the Xbox which you can reuse if you want to take it anywhere. If anyone can get a picture, much obliged. I used it to take mine to England for the holidays. :D
