But Rome: Total War wasn't entirely about slavery, and the slave trade. The thing I want to know is if this game has any historical significance hiding between the lines. Something leading up to the end of slavery and how you - as a business man - must deal with that. It is a very odd line with this game. There is a joker card that could have this game being used wisely.
Let's start with the basics: it probably isn't even a game, but a prank pulled by a Dutch art school student. A good prank, but still a prank.
Most likely this.

The guy narrating this "trailer" has a Dutch accent (not very clear, he masks it well, but it's still there). I know enough Dutch people to know how they speak English.

Also, "Javelin Reds" = "De slavernij", which is DUTCH for "Slavery".

As far as pranks to, this one indeed is quite good.

I thought it was going to be about being a generic slaver that sells slaves regardless of race.

I don't really have a problem with this game... It has the potential to be a really good game if it's well written and interesting. Though, chances are, it probably won't be if it's real.
I agree that a game about the slave trade where you are a slave trader could be handled well, but from the three seconds we've seen of this obviously fake game, it is not. Choosing the weapons with which you beat your slaves is obviously in very poor taste... Perhaps that's why I find this trailer hilarious.

You fucking hypocrites.
Nothing wrong with running around New York mowing down innocent civilians or generally just executing people left and right.
New Deus Ex game is getting flak for stereotypes, not being rewarded for breaking people's arms and legs and then punching them in the face.

But gods forbid they make a game about slavery, how utterly distasteful!
Yes, but those are in fictional invornments. This was real.

In real life, You can't just bring a machinegun to a metropolis, kill 50 people, and expect to esacpe- Games like that are just low entertainment, which some people find fun.

But this, this is real. This happened. These people were tourchered for nothing, in an unfair and unjust world. And it still happens today.
WW2 games.
What else you got?

Also, suggesting that a war game based on a real war is fiction because it doesn't contain any real people, whilst claiming that a game based on slavery is not, suggests that you think all slaves are just nameless things, and that even if the game doesn't name a single historical slave, a fictional one is essentially the same as real one.

That's sort of racist.
Slaves weren't just an abstract concept, they were actual people.

I'm sorry, I looked at the screenshot the OP has up there and all I thought was,
"Damn, Zynga must be wanting to jump on the Controversy Bandwagon. Farmville wasn't enough?"

But seriously, this can't be real. I give the Troll points for the effort in the video, but yeah, I can see Fox New picking this up and saying something along the lines of;
"Game teaches children how to oppress and create slavery for fun" even with the "AO" rating at the start.

This looks shopped, I can tell from the pixels.

But seriously though it really don't seem like it is a real game. And if it is one must wonder why it is available on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Well isn't this informative?! You can see how all sorts respond to something that is a part of human nature and happened long before any one here was even born. I feel that nothing can be offensive, ever... This thing DID happen, and still does in some parts of the world.. And if shit ever REALLY hits the fan... It WILL happen again. But every race has been through something similar, so the fact that these people happen to be black... not very shocking to me... that's just the one instance that keeps being pushed on us over and over.. I think it sucks that its not a real game. We will never advance as a people until we can let go of the past, even make light of it. It happened, and that can't be changed.

+10 points for originality. Real or fiction, I honestly don't see anything wrong with this. If anything the business aspect could actually be mildly educational.

Sorry Moez, the Escapist looked into it and found no trace of the game or its developers. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/112777-Mystery-And-Controversy-Surround-Slavery-The-Game]

Sorry man, its just a cruel internet joke: some troll trying to outdo School Shooter without the effort.
Did it really claim to be developed by the creators of the Total War series? Yeah, I find it hard to believe this is real. I can't believe a fairly big name developer would even attempt something like this. They'd just be throwing their reputation out the window.

C'mon, enough with the hate. It's been decades since most people were able to practice their slave trading. If we don't practice how will be be able to stay on top of our game?

(...I feel like I should make it clear that I'm being sarcastic, becuase inevitable some dumbass will take me seriously)
With a post like that on the Escapist you would be suicidal not to add that disclaimer, smart move man.

Is it wrong this actually sounds kind of...fun?

I can see this as having interesting gameplay mechanics, and, whether we like it or not, people tend to ignore the theme and plot and everything.

Honestly if the game had torture that was as realistic as the slavery then I might play it just for that tiny little sadistic part of me that likes torture... but yeah.

While it might have been a bit more "humor-filled" when it came to this, I'm pretty sure many management games (hell PRISON TYCOON) had slavery (INDENTURED SERVITUDE, PRISONERS MADE TO WORK) and torture (being beaten, shocked, put in solitary confinement).

In fact, Dungeons had torture chambers even if childish.

And Evil Genius had many ways.

Its going to be a point and click game most likely and it was prob made by a garage developer trying to get into the gaming making world. There's no point in PMSing over it because it will just go away very quickly. No one in their right minds will advertise this so Youtube and Fox News is the only way people will ever hear about it.

Lol, People are surprised this got the green light? Since when did anyone need a green light to develop an AO game?
