Don't try to fall asleep, just pull an all-nighter. Do all sorts of fun things, play games or whatever! It'll screw up the next day, but at least you'll be so tired by the end of the day there's no way you're not going to fall asleep.
This, I've been doing a lot of pseudo-nocturnal sleeping during the holidays and really this is the best solution, just drink a lot of coffee and try to keep yourself occupied with something.

Don't use any interactive medium or anything that really grabs your attention right before you try to sleep. I had the same problem you're experiencing. During that time I realized that I needed to stop playing games or surfing the web at night. A few other posters have stated being more active during the daytime and believe that is excellent advice as well. You should pick up a physically active hobby that you will enjoy during the daytime.

I haven't slept for three nights, I always end up sleeping a little during the day but I think that I have gone completely nocturnal. I lay still for like 7 hours and then I eventually decide to sleep on the couch and fall asleep in the morning. This is ruining my schedule and is making my head dizzy and painful. Can someone here please give me some advice?
You can go to a doctor for a prescription, or you can try the supplement: time released Meletonin. I'm using the later to help with my sleep problems, but they aren't as pronounced as yours. It seems to be helping me, for whatever that's worth.

Hm, Meletonin you say? I'll go see if I could buy some tomorrow. How strong is it?

You should probably see a professional for that. I'm kinda developing an insomnia too, but only to the point where it takes me about 3 hours to fall asleep. I think your condition is a bit worse.

I did a report on insomnia in college and so far the best way I found to treat it is with Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with a dash of biological (pills) to get you started. You can get pills from your doctor so no point in me going into that. I will go into the CBT though.

1. Only use your bedroom (wherever the room you sleep is) for sleeping and sex.
2. Wake up and get out of bed at the same time every day
3. Only go to bed when sleepy
4. If you can't fall asleep in 20 minutes, get up and go to a different room until sleepy again

Go see a doctor, stay away from salt (it triggers insomnia if you have it) work on mental exercises to focus your mind so it doesn't run rampant while you're trying to sleep...there's lots more, but you should really see a professional about this, rather than seek the opinions of us internet strangers.
