Devil Survivor, it's been mentioned here and there but then again the Shin Megami Tensei franchise has never been really big outside Japan.

It's a great SRPG with darker themes while still having a bit of the humor the Persona series had. The atmosphere in the game is almost stifling as society breaks down.
Amazing game. I'm on

The third day where you get a message saying Beldr will be revived and will kill hundreds of people. And then I shat a brick. Very intrigued to see where this will go.
I got to about Day six before I put it down, I'll probably pick it up sooner or later and finish up.

Bionic Commando,Trine and Flower.
I really hope you're talking about the 2d remake of the original Bionic Commando because the new third person version was my shortest rental ever.

Flower I liked but I'm glad I waited for the price to drop to $5.

Overall, this was a pretty disappointing year for games. We had some really good titles like Batman but none of them were really outstanding. I can't think of any sleeper hits because every good game I can think of was way overhyped.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, ok so it's a collection game, but I actually found myself having a lot of fun with many Genesis games I never got the chance to play.
There's too many good things on that to list.

It's also got like seven different endings, and the uber boss from hell.

Literally.

Braid

Mirror's Edge was incredible to me
Braid I truly love, I'll go with that as my choice

As for Mirror's Edge, I too thought it was a true innovation

Torchlight kinda came out of nowhere. Sure, it's not that original and a bit repetitive, but it's very polished and cheap. I love the art style.

I think that the Conduit was highly underrated. And Boy and His Blob isn't selling enough. Go get those.

Blaze Blue for me, wasn't even in my radar as i wasn't looking for any fighting games, saw it once and instantly went to the store and bought it. Haven't regretted it, now only if i could stop sucking at it.

Call Of Juarez: Bound in Blood anyone?

Great graphics, fun multiplayer, interesting story.

It's much better then the first, and got great reviews from IGN and the like.

This game is fantastic yet I haven't heard about it anywhere. The 5-day steam sales gave me a taste for cheap games so browsed around to see what else I'd been missing out on.

Found this strange little medieval/steam-punk game:

Hammerfight ($9.99):

I had no idea what the hell I was looking at in the screenshots, so don't feel bad if you don't understand yourself. Grab the demo and you'll understand.

You control a flying box with your mouse. Attached to this box, are medieval weaponry, like swords, axes, shields, and morningstars. Through the use of physics, when you move the box with your mouse, it swings the weapons attached to it. This tight interaction give a great sense of feedback when you whirl a morningstar around and slamming into the opponent's face, flinging them back and slamming them into the cliffside and stunning them. The power of your swing is dependent on your skill since the damage is calculated using physics. (It's not really the same, but I got the same feel as that old game Die by the Sword, don't know if any of you have even heard of it)

There's additional items you can pick up and use as you play, like throwing stars, spears, bombs, acid etc. Gems you can socket into the various weapons you purchase in the stores. Shields that defend against blows (until they shatter from repeated impact).

  • Plot: There's a pretty decent story wrapped around this culture. The exposition is that people known as "riders" are able to control these flying craft and have become the knights in these flying societies. A flying medieval culture is a pretty interesting concept, they even tamed flying worms for use as blimps to get around.

Graphics: It seems that they've hand-drawn all the graphics, it looks fantastic, especially with the additional effects layered over it, but this also means that they don't scale well. Doesn't matter once you're playing in full-screen. Try the demo and see them in motion. All those little bits and pieces of the flying machines and animals can be slashed and smashed to bits, turning them in flying debris. Destructible terrain too, I smashed a pillar down in the arena and it crushed a couple of spectators.

Sound: Interesting mediterranean/middle-eastern theme going on here. Sets a good atmosphere for the game.

    Modes:
Story, Arena, and a 4-player multiplayer by connecting additional mice to your computer. Haven't seen many PC games where multiple people can play from the same location.

Is it just me, or is Hammerfight a really /stupid/ name? Sounds casual and campy, which really doesn't fit this game at all. Original name was Hammerfall, which sounds much better in my opinion.

Very much alike! Quote from Arcanorum link: "EDIT: We were not aware that the game developers had inspiration from the game Hammerfight, however we would like to acknowledge their innovation and inspiration for our game Arcanorum.
