After playing Driver San Francisco on the weekend I thought I'd pose the topic on what were people's personal sleeper hits of 2011.

For those of you who were fans of the Driver series and have been burnt by the sequels, I urge you to give Driver San Francisco a real go. It returns to the core, pure fun of driving without weighing you down with other crap; the cars are all unique and look beautiful and the ability to "possess" any car at any time makes the game fresh, and most of all, enjoyable. Sure the story gets a bit batshit bonkers at times, but even Yahtzee didn't have it as his second fav game for 2011 for nothing.

Dark Souls was an awesome RPG that I enjoyed just as much as Skyrim, but no one bought it.
I wouldn't say "no one" bought it. According to VGChartz (I have no idea how reliable they are), lifetime sales are as follows:

Demon's Souls: 1.53M
Dark Souls: 0.98M (PS3) + 0.37M (360) = 1.35M

Surely that's not bad? Although, Homefront sold more than that and still got its studio closed down, so I have no idea these days.

According to VGChartz again, Shogun 2 has only sold 380,000 copies. I'm hoping that doesn't include digital sales, and that lots of people bought digitally. I know that grand strategy games are something of a niche genre these days, but come on.

I'd buy it if I could find it. It's hard to find on the shelves over here for some reason.

I find it interesting that the 360 sales are so low in comparison to the PS3 sales though.

I think I'd consider Catherine a sleeper hit, great puzzle game that got overlooked here in North America because of it's anime style and sexual themes. I thought it was an excellent game.
This, even if it was Atlus's best selling game ever. That still isn't saying much. I'll toss in Persona 2: Innocent Sin. It is a great RPG that has somewhat stood the test of time.

I think if it had got a global release then I think it would have done better. I mean if it had got a European release last year, I for one would have picked it up.

It has a European release:

It was just delayed a bit and pushed into 2012.

Demon's Souls was a ps3 exclusive, so when Dark Souls came out, the majority of DS players bought Dark Souls on ps3.

Colour me informed! That explains a lot.
