So, I live in The Great White North (Canada)and am eagerly awaiting Skyrim.I was going to get it day one because of how much I wanted it. However, an unfortunate circumstance is preventing me from doing just that.

Turns out, Novenber 11th is also Rememberance Day, a national holiday here in Canada, where we celebrate the sacrifice of our armed forces, both past and present. And since it's a national holiday, no stores are open, therefore, no Skyrim yet.

This really is a minor inconvinience, as I am more than willing to wait an extra day, however I feel kind of angry that everyone else on the planet is going to be playing and saying how great the game is (I assume), while I have to sit at home with my thumbs up my ass.

So, for discussion value, how do some of my fellow canadians feel about this? Does it affect you, or do you buy from digital distribution (Steam etc.)? And for everyone else, have you ever had a situation where a holiday or any other situation really, has stopped you from buying a game temporarily?

We here in Australia also celebrate Remembrance Day, but we don't have a public holiday. I'm pretty sure however if you pre-order the game it would arrive to you either the day before or the day after.

Since I preordered at EB, I have to wait the extra day. Mildly annoying? Of course, but I think it's worth it, if only because my Grandfather was in the forces, and a friend of mine is in the reserves.

But yes.

Annoying, it is. :<

Here it is also remembrance day, thankfully I only lose 2 minutes of life to it. *checks date* Oh, it's a day off for me on friday, I can continue not caring about remembrance day and keep my 2 minutes \o/

At least you can one up the Steam users with your map poster. *Looks longingly*

As for your discussion value, yes, many times. The holiday is called "Postman wants a day off" and it's a rather frequent holiday. I stopped preordering hard copies after it happened the third time in a row.

Oh boo hoo.

And no, I have never wanted a luxury so bad I had to whine about waiting one day. I will likely not see a title worth that kind of praise in my lifetime.

Hey, now you mention it, so do we here in Belgium. We celebrate specifically the end of World War 1, and all victims of war in general.

Also to the OP, that's not just Canada but in the entire Commonwealth, no?

If only all the people who are supposed be remembered on that day could be alive to play Skyrim...

Seems to me that many people's entertainment is far better to them than the privileges afforded by the very people were are (again) supposed to be remembering on November 11th.

Yes, I will be buying Skyrim that day, but I'll also be doing exactly what Remembrance Day was created for.

remembering the people who died during both World Wars

The 11th is Veterans Day in the states, I don't think too much is closed, still all the more reason to get it at a midnight release party.

Australian.

We have ANZAC Day, early on in the year for remembering our troops, so Nov 11th is more of a silent nod to everyone else, that nobody really takes all that seriously for some reason. No public holiday, I don't think there's any public services or anything like that.

On a personal note though, November 11th is my grandmother's birthday, so... that's fine timing. Still, probably going to go pick up Skyrim on Friday, but probably won't play it till after visiting the Matriarch of my family.

Still, not rage inducing. Patience is a virtue, and that which is waited for, is all the better for the wait.

Wow that sucks. I'm glad I live in Ireland we are very neutral. Still many people did die in the war of independence and civil war.
