We've all got them. What're some that, looking back on, make you realize that they were somewhat silly.

I was 7 or 8 and saw Aliens on TV for the first time. Not only was it the coolest, most violent, and awesome thing I'd ever seen, but it resulted in me being absolutely terrified of my basement and any other darkened space down any flight of stairs for years to come; I also developed a phobia of crawling insects that I still have today. Oddly enough, it is still my favorite movie of all time despite all that.

My parents got tricked into watching one of those pop up scares where you look at an image for several seconds and a head pops up and screams. I ended up walking into the room this was going on right before the pop up. I had nightmares because of that thing.

I was crying in my room because i was getting bullied alot. My Dad came in and yelled at me and told me to shut up and 'all you do is cry'

so it was quite upsetting at the time

I always thought a monster would come out of the toilet or bathtub. I'm thinking it was a movie I watched when I was really young but I wouldn't have a clue what the name is.

Hm, well, the intro to The Goofy Movie (The bit where Max transforms into his father in his dream) used to scare the christ out of me as a kid.

If we're talking seriously traumatic: I was separated from my mother at around age ten because she was an irresponsible, abusive alcoholic. Grew up very closed-off and anti-social because of that.

The first event that turned me into the borderline schizo maniac you see before you today was when I watched Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for the first time. I'm sure you have all heard of the creepy tunnel scene, but there is also the fact that Gene Wilder does one of his most disturbing (and best) performances here.

The second was "Pink Elephants on Parade."

I had a phobia of things flying near my head for awhile and a flying insect phobia for years. Fuck wasps.

Edit: Oh wait, slightly traumatic experiences...

Hmmm...

Watching my dad writhe in pain when he had/has back spasms? He has had a terrible lower back problem since an accident he was a passenger in 30 years ago.

Well, it's really silly but when I was 5 my father called me a girl and a coward because I was crying so ever since then I don't cry (well there were a couple of exceptions but let's say ever since then I've only cried about 5 times) also because I don't want to be a coward I tend to do really stupid things like not back out of a fight with a guy that's twice my size, and almost falling to my death of a mountain, fortunately I'm VERY lucky.
[sub][sub]There's another one but that's not PG13[/sub][/sub]

Listening to Revolution 9.

I heard it constantly for years when falling asleep. Creeped the shit out of me.

slightly traumatic? I have this annoying fear (not a phobia however, remember they are two different things) of ants. I remember my mother placing me outside in a small "childs pen" (damn children cages) on top of a red ant hill. ow ow ow ow~

Hmmm... define 'slightly'...

Anyway, for 'slightly' traumatising:

Didn't sleep well for a month and every slight sound (especially rattling) set me on edge... *brrr*

Awesome film though in retrospect. Harryhausen rules!

When I was very small (like 4 or so), I was afraid of the sink sucking me in. I remember having nightmares of it sucking my toothbrush in, and then I wasn't sure if it had happened or not.

Also there was this kid's movie that had mold in it that turned you into mold if you touched it that made me afraid of library books for years.

That doesn't seem too logical, but I was afraid there would be mold between the pages, because I guess I have heard of books being moldy or something?

Also Jurassic Park scared my horribly. The scene where the paleontologist is holding the baby raptor, and he stops and goes "you bred raptors?"

I was so afraid he was going to drop the baby raptor I started to cry and mom decided I shouldn't watch the movie.
I did anyway, and I wasn't afraid of the dinosaurs or scared on behalf of the humans, which probably says something about my psyche...

Seeing a guy get his finger ripped off on the belts of his car. We were sitting at a gas station and my mom went inside. I was chilling in the passanger side. A guy pulls up in a BWM, suit, tie, I'm sure he had a breifcase full of important things to do that day.

When he pops his hood, engine running. It was squeaking pretty badly. He looked over a few things and then sprayed something on a rag, I assume it was to stop the squeaking. He reached down and WHAM! the rag got caught in the belts and jerked his hand in, he pulled back.

I remember sesing the line of blood run up under his hood. He grabbed his hand and started looking over the engine then ducked down and picked his finger up. He wrapped his hand in the cloth and jumped into his BMW and speed off. I don't know if he made it in time to save it, but I do still remember seeing it, almost as in slow mostion.
