O absolutely adore them, they are the heavy in my top 5 favourite bands. Love the lyrics and the general music.

Iowa was pretty good in a progressive wall-of-sound kind of way.
It's another case of a band being ruined by the fanbase, though. Seeing these skaggy little 14 year-olds with their lurid hoodies and seldomly-washed shoulder-length hair does put one off somewhat.

But yeah, Iowa was pretty good.

I love slipknot. My top 4 of there albums:
1. subliminal verse
2. slipknot
3. al hope is gone
4. Iowa

Maybe this explains wy OP like Iowa the most maybe that one is the least slipknot like or something. I don't know just rambling.

Slipknot is an example of true musical genious and anyone who says otherwise deserve to be slapped upside the head :)
Snuff, Vermillion, Psychosocial and Duality are among some of their best <3
I disagree.

I love Slipknot, but with Paul's unfortunate death, it has left things up in the air. Even if you think their music isn't, the lifestyle of the nine is unique. The line-up hasn't changed in over a decade and bringing in new blood doesn't seem like the right choice. But hey, it's their choice.

I don't particularity understand them or that entire genre. Anyone who dresses up like that is on something I clearly am not and for the life of me all I hear in the few songs i've overheard is just violent growling.

But i've known people to draw meaning from the songs so they must be doing something right.

I was also really into Iowa when it came out. Undoubtedly their finest work to date. The Subliminal Verses and All Hope Is Gone were... I dunno... different. They had less impact. It's good they made an effort to branch out a bit and try a different approach instead of making the same album again and again but I do believe their creative peak was reached with Iowa.

I do hate it when people refer to them as the heaviest band of all time. Because they really aren't.
I guess those people need to be introduced to grindcore then...

Opinions on Slipknot? Love 'em? Hate 'em?
Neither. They're okay I guess, good at what they do, but I don't really like that whole nu-metal style. I'm glad it's fairly passe at this point. If screamo and metalcore (which I don't like much either) can be credited with anything worthwhile it's that it wiped nu-metal off the cultural map.

I care about them as much as their cold, dead bassist.
thaaaaat... is pretty low.

OT: I'll be honest.
I fucking love Slipknot. No doubt about it. They were one of the first bands I ever listened to that you could consider "heavy". And yes, I am aware that there is far heavier music out there, however, when you're 10, Slipknot is pretty heavy.

That was 6 years ago.

I've been to see them twice - broke my ribs during their All Hope Is Gone Tour because I was down at the barrier and even when I knew my ribs were broken, I didn't move.
& i own all their albums.

I now prefer listening to bands of the more "hardcore" variety (metalcore, deathcore, death metal, etc), instead of Slipknot, but Slipknot always hold a special place in my heart.

I'm perfectly aware that they are no longer the most loved band ever but I don't care.

[sub]by the way, despite my love for them, I never have and never will call myself a "maggot".[/sub]

I liked their singles, so I bought one of the albums, Subliminal verses I think.

Hated every single track that wasn't a single, seriously I tried, listened all the way through but every one that didn't have a video was terrible. The new album isn't too bad though.

Their bassist died.
Up until that point, I was neutral toward them. Now, I remind slipknot fans that he's dead every time I get the chance.
Sounds very respectful and mature.

I actually haven't listened to a lot of their songs, but the ones I like, I really like.

They got worse over time, but they're definitely listen-to-able, with the odd moment of proper goodness. They definitely under-use their musical talent that they initially displayed, but it's nothing that's actually offensive to my ears. I think most of the hate comes from just being too popular and elitist metalheads like to look down on the 'maggots'.

All said, they do put on one hell of a show though, I went with my younger brother a year or two back and it was a stupendously good show.

I loved them when I liked the mainstream stuff.

Now they're okish to me, but I don't listen to them anymore.

I went to one of their shows two years ago too. Absolutely awesome.
