Wasnt this meant to just be Liara in a specific Japanese style? Not actually showing what the character actually looks like on purpose?

Well in that comparison, yes the on the right will look better. Its full detailed, texturized and painted. Its got a soul. The one on the left is just a clay blank model that's in a shape.

Personally I think the one on the left looks more like Liara, or whoever its meant to be, it looks better in my opinion. Looking at the hips of the character model in proportion with the bust size shows an odd comparison on the right one.

Besides, chick is pushing her arms together on the right, which would cause a decent size bust to squeeze up a bit, particularly if the suit is of a skin tight nature, which it seems 99% of Mass Effect's females wear.
Well, the picture on the right is the prototype, and it never got made into a fully colored version. So yeah, the comparison can only goes as far as her breast size. It just turned into your average anime/manga girl figurine with a blue skin and a ME3 outfit.

Seriously, who doesn't love boobs? Gay Men, Straight Women...everyone loves boobs.
It's not that people don't love boobs, it's that it's rather annoying when they are the only significant feature on the character. The first figurine has no substance, her face is totally blank and lacks any sort of expression or purpose. The second pose is still rather pointless, but at least there's a bit of a fire in her eyes.
I'd agree but the first one isn't even finished, a coat of paint changes everything about the image you're seeing.

It still doesn't look like Liara and it still doesn't look like a news article but we're bound to have "slow days".

That pose is totally unrealistic. Who pushes their chest out and squeezes their boobs together like that? She's better off holding onto a poll, and wearing a belt for holding one dollar bills with that look. But hey, that's how bioware likes their females. All boobs, not brains. Except for the chick in the suit, who is obviously their to appease the nerd gods.

It still looks horrible, but there is something else that caught my eye. While the former figurine (left) is horribly shaped, in no way resembles Liara and has an oversized rack simply because "lol big bewbz r awsum", I'm not sure how exactly it was discriminating.

its just that face is hideous, I get their trying to appeal to Japanese community but why can't they do what they did with Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Robin, etc. from DC those actually looked somewhat good and resembled the characters. This looks like "generic anime blue girl"

The problem for me is not so much the breast size; it's that Liara is intelligent, hypercompetent and determined. She's someone who gets stuff done. Neither statuette shows her character and personality.

A coat of paint won't change her expression or pose. You can see all the features on her face, including her eyebrows. You think they'd go through the effort to have them carved into the model like that and then move them someplace else with paint?

I'll agree that it doesn't even look like Liara, though. And no matter what they do it it I still won't buy it. I like Mass Effect, but Liara definitely isn't my favorite. And I much preferred her in ME1, before ME2 where she lost her soul and all her personality (though I haven't finished ME2 so if she goes through some sort of event that changes her back, I haven't seen it yet).

Both look really bland and quite ugly. They also don't look anything like Liara. This is more some kind of over-sized five-year-old, trying-to-be-attractive, soulless, blank-faced creepy blue alien thing. I don't get how anyone would like that.

This could have been made a lot better--not that I would have bought it.

Well this makes no sense at all... if you went anime then go anime, don't just go half arsed(or boobed) on everything.
Maybe it's just production cost reduction, lots of plastic gets wasted on those big titties :p

Seriously?

I'm sick to death of people who design models for female video game characters who all appear to have a common disability:

They can never button/zip up their tops over their breasts.

What - are they buying clothes the wrong size or something? This is ridiculous.

Oh yes - FYI - the links below shows what Liara is MEANT to look like:

They may have fixed her ridiculously over sized chest but that doesn't change the fact that this still looks nothing like Liara. Also, why is Bioware so interested in doing anime/manga makeovers lately (could also ask Marvel this question)? Has anybody seen the preview for the Dragon Age Anime? Am I alone in thinking that it looks, and will probably be awful? People seem to have forgotten that the Western world is capable of producing animated shows for adults (remember the Spawn Animated series? That was great.)

Though maybe I'm just biased. I am admittedly getting kind of sick of anime.

What are you talking about? The figurine is showing literally no skin other than her head. And of course it won't look 100% like Liara, it's done in an anime style. It's unreasonable to expect it to look like Jillian Murray.

Anyway, I'm always interested in seeing things done in new styles so I actually like it. Face is a little to "acute" if that makes any sense, and lips are too blue (is that supposed to be lipstick? She never seemed to be the kind of girl who would wear makeup).
