Though they may not be perfect what is your favorite smaller or under the radar game that has been released in the past 5 years. I would say The Saboteur for its style and art or Enslaved again for its art style (green apacolyptic world) as well as its characters.

I wouldn't say either of those games are small games. But anyway, maybe Marc Eckos Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. Hardly anyone I know has heard of these that game but I love it.

Stranglehold - It doesn't really bring anything new to the table and it rehashes the bullet time idea constantly, but it's like one giant gunfight throughout the entire game with the ridiculous combination of martial arts thrown in for good measure. There's more health and ammo than you know what to do with, so it's one pure "run & gun" game that let's you destroy everything in your path. Mindless, chaotic entertainment is had.

The fact that I think Yahtzee reviewed both of those games (I know he reviewed Enslaved) means they were know to some extent.

But I can't think of anything under the radar. Most games are known because people look for different now.

EDIT: Actually, I don't know if this was under the radar or small but Vanquish was pretty damn good. I really enjoyed the feel of a Japanese, fast paced shooter. It was a good break from the CoDs and Battlefields.

You seem to have a strange notion of "small" and "under the radar".

Saboteur had advertisements up on this very site on its launch, and enslaved was big news because of what the story was supposed to be(again this site had a story about what was happening with the game at least once a week). Both were far from small under the radar games.

For me probably The Ball and Zeno Clash are my favorite lesser known titles from the last few years.

Most people have never heard of it. Have had to talk friends and family into getting it yet everyone I know who's actually gotten into it has liked it. Was actually kind of shocked when a sequel came out for this wonderfully unpopular game. Unfortunately it fell short in every aspect except graphics, which even that could probably be argued. Go Culties!

I would say 'Splosion Man. I have sunk HOURS and HOURS trying to beat the hardcore more and I can't help playing it more :(. The controls are fluid and easy to use, the graphics are great and the gameplay feels satisfying. I would recommend this to anyone :D

Meant to put quotes around the words small and under the radar since yes I saw all the advertisments ;)

Definitely agree with Zeno Clash, and I'd say AI War, too.

Atelier Iris and Mana Khemia series for the characters and unique item creation system; it makes fetch quests fun!

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. It's a quirky game with a great sense of humour and the combat is awesome.

Drakengard 1 & 2/ NieR as well: Superb Stories and characters that are VERY unique

Zork...all of them. Some were big but aren't played anymore. Others were never all that famous.

It's a shame as they're so fun.

King's Bounty: The Legend as well as its sequels Armoured Princess and Crossworlds. As far as I'm concerned best game released in 2008, and one of the best series in gaming today. Imaginative, extremely well designed, beautiful to behold and listen to (The soundtrack is brilliant!), and just downright fun! Playing the King's Bounty games is some of the most fun I've had gaming in years.

Oh, there's another good one!

Which reminds me: Age of Wonders

Ever heard of the series? Probably not, especially if you weren't a PC gamer during a specific period of time. It's like Heroes of Might & Magic + Civilization with even a splash of the Total War games. So damned good! I still play Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic regularly.

cultures. the only copies of the game i have ever seen are the ones my brother owns.

its a viking village sim sort of game. you control some villages, get them married, have babies, have them grow up and become bakers and huntsman and potters etc.

MA:GITS is one of ps2´s gems that went unnoticed by some odd reason.Good graphics and gameplay are complemented by some great humour.
I´ll also add I-Ninja to the list. A really fun game.

It's older then 5 years but Dynasty Tactics 2. That is one of the best strategy games I've ever played and me and my firends have had heaps of fun playing multiplayer.
