I can smile on command, it's just that I prefer not to. Smiling loses whatever's good about it when you have to do it forced several times. I usually give a smirk that makes me look either malicious or sympathetic. I've never worked out which one people see. Either way, they usually back away.

If everyone smiles all the time how can you tell who is really happy?

My default facial expression is not a smile, that bothers some. I also cannot smile on command.

I have been told my forced smile is a "Rape Face".

Big toothy grins shouldn't be forced, it should be natural, and if it doesn't come naturally then you probably haven't been happy enough. I'm fairly morose, I smile at people in that no-teeth, polite smile when I say 'good morning', but the only time I toothy-grin is when someone makes me laugh.

Maybe you should work on your smiling muscles, like just try a no-tooth smile at people, like when you buy something at a store, give the cashier a friendly little smile... like be prepared to smile at people. A smile is reasuring, it tells people that your not intending to skin them and wear them as a scarf, it gives a better impression and makes people more relaxed when your around. Tooth-grinning is not a vital skill, appearing pleasant and approachable IS!

Just try it, the next person you interact with, when you would usually say 'thank you', give them a little smile. Also try smiling when talking on the telephone, it makes your voice sound positive and friendly. At the end of the day, it's just your face - you can be as pee'd off as you like under the surface.

I can't smile on demand. If I try, I get this crooked/twisted horror inducing grin that would be perfectly in place on a serial killers face if I try to force myself to smile. I'm not a depressed person, I'm generally pretty happy. I just don't smile unless I'm actually happy.

...what's wrong with you people!? Everyone can smile. If I asked you to grimace on command, I bet 100% of you could do that. If I asked you to pretend to be scared, you could do that. If I asked you to pull a face like you just took a big juicy bite out of a lemon, you could do that too. So what's so damn hard about smiling?

You just do a facial impression of being happy. That's all there is to it!

I can force a smile when needed. It adds to the feeling of being dead. Thank the alicorn goddesses for ponies!

Putting up a genuine grin is simple, you think of something that will make you to smile like that.
Of course you would need to find something to smile about, which I suspect is the primary underlying issue of all these shenanigans.

I don't really smile, doesn't mean I'm not happy though, as much as people tell me I am.

When I smile though, I smile, just like laughing, it end up a bit over the top...

I hate being expected to smile on que also, must people who do look like idiots in photos.

Sadly, I too, have problems with the open mouth smile. I mostly just have condescending smirks to give out.

Also, I came in here expecting a Smiledog.jpg post. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

I used to be able to smile but then I took a very annoying meme to the knee.

Heh.

Well, I find it impossible to smile in pictures. I usually don't smile much at all except in the bedroom.

I usually smile quite a lot... Infact most of the time I'm smiling. I use a whole range of different smiles all the time to communicate my feelings to others, it seems to be quite clear (Though some people wonder why I smile so much...)

But I cannot smile for pictures... What either comes out is a smirk or the picture is taken just before I burst out laughing.

When I smile other people think that I have some devilish plan in my head or just call me ''Demon'' .
