Hey guys, I was wondering...
One thing that always bothers me is that about 70% of gamers will go into a shooter and immediately pick the sniper rifles. Every single goddamn time. I really don't understand this as I can't see how something as slow-paced as sitting back and picking off enemies one-by-one from a mile away can be very much fun. So to those of you who use the snipers, what on Earth is so damn appealing about them?
Thanks

Watching your prey, that's what they are at this point, move around, unaware of your presence and then BAM, a quick shot to the head. The loud, ringing noise still lingers ever so slightly in the area. A guttural cry that causes anyone who isn't you to panic.
Everyone, without even thinking, scatters like roaches in the middle of an illuminated kitchen. Doesn't matter where they go, any cover is good cover at this point, but they don't want to stay there. You're there.

These moments of pure excitement are worth the slow, tedious routines of waiting.

That's why I feel compelled to anyway.

It makes me feel like a game hunter or something. It requires a certain amount of skill and it makes you look cool.

Being an effective sniper is a thrilling experience, in a way you feel like you're Death itself when you know you can fire and take out an enemy far before you could see, let alone pose a threat to you. It's even more satisfying when you see that your enemy is trying to figure out where you are and sneak out of your firing arc...and then find out they failed as you shoot them again.

I snipe for the coolness factor associated with it.
That, and I suck so bad at FPSes, taht my ONLY chance of getting kills is by being REALLY far away and planting a bullet square between the eyes of a glowy white blur through my thermal scope.
And even then it doesn't really pan out too well.
I just like it, I guess.

It takes more skill to use them. It is rather satisfying knowing that you have successfully killed someone from a mile away without them having a damn clue as to where you are.

Just like running into a crowd of players guns blazing and coming out hurt but alive and on top is a adrenalin rush, waiting for a target to appear, watching it, and then taking it out at just the right moment and seeing all the other players surrounding the unlucky one panic and rush around is a adrenalin rush in its own right.

And its easier to find a good spot and let them come to you, rather than running around hoping you find someone before they find you.

I play Halo mostly, so in good hands the sniper can rape at all ranges; and when they close on you, it can get pretty frantic. Little is more satisfying than headshotting a guy who was a foot away with a shotgun. Getting a bulltrue isn't bad, either.

It makes you feel like a god?
Sniping and killing people with a single twitch of your finger is pretty much something a god would do, thus making it appealing.
Hell, maybe it's just my Megalomaniac tendencies talking though.

"Sniping's a good job mate. Challenging work, outdoors, an' I guarantee you won't go hungry..."

That's why.

Also sniper duels/comeptitions are endlessly satisfying.

Depends on the game, I guess. In Counter-Strike, I'm usually on GunGame or Deathmatch and I don't choose which weapon I get. In AvP2, the sniper will one-hit kill anyone except a Praetorian or Queen, but the enemies are kinda small, so it's hard to hit with. In Unreal Tournament, the sniper sucks a hairy testicle and I stay well away from it, unless everyone's in a vehicle, at which point it starts to actually do something.

If you are skilled with them and able to gain kills for your team/self then I say Sniper Rifle it up all you want.....but when it comes to stupid kids who run up see a sniper rifle go "oh snap I be headshotting some foolz" and waste all the bullets because they miss and "lulz out of ammos assault rifle ftw" then I say team kill their ass for being dumb ("TheRealGoochman does not support teamkilling"-TheRealGoochman for groovy president of awesome things foundation)
Heck if you can nab some kills with a sniper rifle then go for it but don't be the guy to pick it up just to have it

But yeah when you are kick ass at snipping (which I am not sadly.....Im a shotgun shooty man)and get headshots like you can't believe then it is fun as heck and sniper rifle it up yo!

Well, I also happen to be a splinter cell fan, so slow-paced setup followed by a quick, efficient, and often unexpected execution is more or less par for the course for me.

if your asking why we like snipers in real life i think its because a sniper has more skill than anyone, they can kill you and your whole family with only a few shots while still being a mile and a half away.
in video games i think people play them because its easy, camp and shoot thats all unless your run n' gun than thats noticeably harder

Because when you get 4 headshots in a row it feels great.

Nothing funnier than a Noscope fluke run.
