I recently watched this trailer... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFbHYUqeQjA)

...and suddenly I'm incredibly torn. Considering the obvious correlation I draw between Kristen Stewart, her atrocious acting skills and her association with the "Twighlight-esk" brand I feel is ruining modern cinema, why am I somewhat interested in this movie?

I know it's going to be female-centric, have a ridiculously convoluted plot involving beauty, true love and the strength of spirit, blah blah blah. But I am still drawn to the technical aspect of the various effects they have shown, the decent musical score associated with the trailer, and the general action packed feel the trailer represents. I know that the trailer is lying to me; they're presenting a fairy tale as an fantasy action movie with a terrible lead.

I'm I the victim of clever editing here? Have I been slowly infected with enough marketing that I might enjoy something that reeks of sparkly drama? Or have I simply gone insane? What do you make of this?

Personally I think it looks alright. Hating on it primarily because of Kristen Stewart would be equally as silly as loving it before seeing it simply because of the presence of Charlize Theron or Chris Hemsworth.

Also, why can't a fairytale be reappropriated as a 'fantasy epic'? Disney may have have 'soiled' (I use the term lightly) many of these stories but why not take them back, or offer an alternative reading or rereading?

I do know that feel. The visuals, ranging from the effects, to the sets, to the cinematography look great, and the action looks promising, but I simply can't get interested. I know what's happening here, I know they're just going to have a romance plot as the centre of the movie, and it's going to take up the majority of the film when a far more interesting and important story is going on, and I know the lead's acting is going to be horrendous. Aside from the acting part, it reminds me of the feeling I get every time I suddenly want to watch titanic. Luckily, I have never bought the DVD, because that would require going into a shop as a man with fully functioning balls, looking for it, and then buying it in front of everyone.
