So unless you don't live in the U.S. or you just don't pay attention to the news. A huge part of the U.S. got hit by a major snow storm. It was so big that my school called the snow day BEFORE the storm hit. We were suppose to get 2 feet of snow. But thanks to drift some spots mainly my front door build up to 4 feet. It's pretty crazy. so I took some pictures of what my lawn looks like.

Obviously there need to be some sort of decision. So here it is. If you were hit by this snow storm do you have any picture of the aftermath and did anything happen during the storm like power outage. For those of you that didn't get hit because you are either out of the U.S. or just in a place that never gets snow do you have any stories of crazy weather that kept you inside your house and canceled school?

I got hit by that awesome storm as well but we didn't get that much snow granted we got about half a foot of snow but it was mostly just a huge ice storm and now all the roads are all icy, but we still didn't get a snow day because our school system is bad ass and if the principal can make it to school so can you and he must live either in the school or right next door.

Doesn't look too bad. Sure it's a fair amount, but it's not an unshovelable one. Looks like a fairly average winter to me, but for you it might be extreme.
Oh and I've never had a "snow day" that's a silly concept, in Norway we remove the snow and get to it.

Damn, reminds me of that huge record breaking blizzard that struck the north east almost a year ago. Most of the general DC area was shut down, heavy snowfall made the highways impossible to drive on, and many towns(including mines) were left without power for days. (add to the large amount of snow my house literally became a refrigerator)

< Swedish guy is not impressed.

You should see the places we have or ski vacation centers....

Also, what is up with snow days? We just sweep/melt it away and go about our day.

<--Coloradoan is not impressed either.

OP: It's about time. You guys always get off easy. That's pretty typical for a Colorado winter on the Front Range of the Rockies. Oddly enough, though, we've had a pretty mild winter. It's been a nice change of pace. It's not like we ever get news coverage for our blizzards. Why are the north and midwest getting so much attention all of a sudden? How come nobody ever interviews me about "how crazy the weather is" when my 6 foot security fence disappears underneath the sheer volume of snow?

Cuase I remember last year when Pittsburgh buckled down and dealt with the snowmegeddon. in fact! I remember that my work (*cough*CarmikeCinemas*cough*) was open everyday for it. And if we didnt have enough staff to run the damn place, well, we sucked it up, worked extra hard, and dealt with it. ANd if you didnt show up, you got FIRED! Or at least lessened hours. when did you, you just got a thank you card. No pay increase or anything (or even more hours later). The one day, it was so cold the pipes froze, and that was just a nightmare cause we ran out of ice. Good thing only like, ten people showed up.

But meh. I'm used to snow, so I'm not worried. Its pretty much petered out when it got over the Appalachias so we didnt see nearly as much as last year. If I have the pics, I'll send them, but I think its doubtful that I do. Um... lets see. In my life time, I can remember three snowmegeddons, so actually thats five, if you want to count the ones I was too young to remember, especially the one year where we had snow in may (my birth month, on my birthday actually. which is pretty cool if you stop to think about it, considering I live in the North/Central East (depends who you ask) and not near lakes so I dont get lake effect. During those three snowmeggedons, I remember school being canceled a grand total of 11 times. 11! Thats all three years, so something like... what... 9-12 months maybe (depends on much snow we get on November). We had 26 two hr delays. IN fact, I remember the day that it was 4 degrees Fahrenheit, -12 with a windchill, and I still had to be up at 530 am to catch the bus.

Hell, we had four kids almost die during our five snowmeggedons (myself included, since negative degree whether wasnt going to stop me from going outside for some paintball fighting in the middle of the night). Then we actually did have a little girl (5-6) die cause the way I understood it, her mother punished her by sticking her outside, then forgetting her and the girl ended up freezing, cause she didnt have anywhere to go. Which was really sad, cause I knew her (I was... wait, how long ago was that. I'm 18 now, so about ten years ago, so I was 8) and she somewhat stayed over at my house.

So yeah, whats this stuff about the four feet? bring on the Four Yards of Snow (yes, I know thats 12 feet)!

EDIT: and no, for the record, those arent exaggerations.

In Norway, there is no such thing as a snow day. In elementary school, they even forced us to play outside during recess, despite ridiculously cold temperatures.
I live by a fjord, so we don't get all that much snow right here though (never more than 3 feet). We do, however, get ice. Lots and lots of ice.

I make my way to school every morning, no matter the weather. This year, it hasn't been so bad (only down to -15 C/5 F) but last year we were down at -30 C/-22 F for a week or two.

But as I said, it doesn't snow all that much right here. Though if you drive a little further away from the coast, there will be one or two metres sustaining throughout winter.

/Bragging about being hard-ass

Edit: I happen to have some transfer-student friends down in England at the moment. I've been chatting with them during winter, and the bastards have constantly been getting days off. Why? Inches of snow.

I live in the Chicago Area. I had to help two other houses remove snow. One house actually payed me even though I kept refusing it (got $10 out of it, nice man)

Dont you get a lot of snow there anyways? Or am I thinking Detroit? cause I know both are (somewhat) huge hockey towns, and have a rivalry going on between the Wings and the Hawks (or as my friend calls it, the war of the colours).
