Edit: I happen to have some transfer-student friends down in England at the moment. I've been chatting with them during winter, and the bastards have constantly been getting days off. Why? Inches of snow.
Some people dont know how to handle snow. you should see how the Southern states of America treat it. There are states that dont even have a snow budget in their state budget. I think Georgia is one of them, so when tehy got snow, they had to have the something like one million (or so, I forget exactly, and I'm probably off anyway) dollars come straight out of tax payer money. And they get shut down if their roads have a light dusting of snow.

We didn't get a bunch of snow, but we did get freezing rain. Trying to walk across the sidewalks in like walking on an ice skating rink. Though I have had all my classes canceled two days in a row, so I'm happy.

Where do you live? Not address or anything, just region.

EDIT: and no, for the record, those arent exaggerations.
I live in the Chicago Area. I had to help two other houses remove snow. One house actually payed me even though I kept refusing it (got $10 out of it, nice man)
Dont you get a lot of snow there anyways? Or am I thinking Detroit? cause I know both are (somewhat) huge hockey towns, and have a rivalry going on between the Wings and the Hawks (or as my friend calls it, the war of the colours).
yes Chicago gets snow. But not THIS much! We might get at most (if lucky) a foot. But to have a huge ass storm come and give us 4 feet noooooo. The last time we had something this bad was in 1979 and I wasn't even born so I can't tell you what it was like. But I have been told stories about it and people lost power for 3 days!

You do know that "Snowmageddon" was the official name for the January 2010 storm that hit the Mid-Atlantic region last year, right? You can't just rip off snowstorm names because you think they're cool. They haven't named this storm yet, but don't call it Snowmageddon because that's not what it is.

Also, your pictures don't show 4 feet of snow. Now stop exaggerating, get off your computer (which means you still have electricity, people in DC were without power the whole last week from another storm), and start shoveling out.

3 days hunh? You should move to Pittsburgh. We had people lost power for a month after the Katrina Microburst.

but meh, you're from one of those states that doesnt get snow, which I guess I can understand. At least you've seen it before.

Woohoo, snowmeggedon survivors of '10. XD Have people in your area been calling the snow we've gotten recently snowmeggedon 2? Or fear it will be every time it snows?

Snowmageddon? You obviously don't know what Finland has to deal with.

As for me, I'm in Vermont, and we have about twice that much snow. Just another day. Although they cancelled school.

Yeap, that's pretty normal where I'm sitting.

Hah, put a little bit of snow and the yankees are on their knees.
Everybody living above the 60th parallel please point and laugh.

Yeah, but not on large mass. If two feet is surprising for you, thats hardly at compared to what you can get.

Dude people on the radio were calling it snowmageddon before this storm hit us. Some were even calling snowpocalypse. It's meant to be used as joke. Don't take it so seriously.

Remember that snow we got last year? Yeah, I currently live in Virgina, and that got us out of school for about 2 weeks. It made me happy seeing as I knew how to handle more than an inch of snow (previously lived in Alaska), so I was unphased, but it was funny watching everyone who doesn't know how to deal with it freak out.

Yes we don't get a lot of snow as some people up north. Different areas have different standards. Snow will always be snow. It's just a matter of where most people get hit by it. Some people are use to 2 feet on average each winter. Well Chicago is use to about a foot.

oka then. Thats what Most Pittsburghers hope we get (usually around christmas so its white) but we usually get either a ton more or a lot less. we're kinda weird in the way where it seems like every other year we get a bad snow storm, then the other year we get no snow at all. Which is why year is weird, since we had the REAL snowmeggedon (XD joking, well, kinda, I dont care if you call this that) last year.

...Is that guy trying to use a lawn mower?
1) that's a snow blower
2) that's my mom o_O
Oop. My bad. It's hard to tell when people are wrapped up and with their back turned like that!

This just goes to show how utterly not prepared for snow people in the UK are. I get this amount of snow on a pretty regular basis and i've never even heard of a snow blower. We also have 0 other counter-measures, salt, winter tyres and such. I guess we just man up and deal with not being able to leave the house, or man up even more and walk.

We got maybe six inches on Monday night, maybe one on Tuesday night.

Regardless, for some reason they called of school Tuesday and today (Wednesday) because of this.
