It's very much worth the money.

Think Hulk (was it) Ultimate Destruction. The number of ability upgrades is exhaustive, the parkour is free flowing, and the story, while the web of intrigue is convoluted, is interesting enough to justify running around town murdering everyone. Good fun. Recommended.

Not the best game in the world, but definitely worth the money in my eyes.
I think the influence of Hulk Ultimate Destruction was one of it's biggest flaws. Like Hulk the story was lost and convoluted, the character is unlikable, the combat is monotonous and the landscape is boring.

I eagerly awaited Prototype and I honestly have to say that its was my biggest disappointment since Fable 2.
And just like Fable 2, they had these weird delusions of grandeur because they had good concepts, but bad execution.
I consider this to be the summer blockbuster of the gaming world. Combat was fun, you don't really have to think a great deal. And that game probably won't be full price still, so worth it in my eyes. Your standards seemed a bit too high from where I'm sitting.

EDIT: And I don't particularly like Penny Arcade, and think it gets shamelessly plastered on here a bit too often, this one pretty much sums it up:
I think my opinion was fairly swayed by the monotony of the gameplay.
I'm a critical gamer, granted, but I still feel that it's more of a rental when there's so many much more engaging titles out there. I don't own a PS3 but I found INfamous so much more compelling, and while I'm in no way saying that prototype is a BAD game it just feels a little unfinished.

I like hearing everyones opinions though and thanks for sharing.
I bought a ps3 just for infamous, and that has eaten up many more hours than prototype. It's a great game.

It's a pretty damn good game. It's not about the story though... story's kinda rubbish. It's all about the game play/replayability. I recommend it.

I liked inFamous better, but I'm just sore about the boss battle with Elizabeth Green.
The trick is to use the graveyard devastator. I forget the full name but it's the one where spikes come out of the ground. Even on hard, she's incredibly easy if you use that. Why everyone has problems with her is beyond me.

I found protoype... very very easy... short... and most of all... BORING...
and nothing more... except... the character is an annoying whiney twat...

its the first generic game ive played since assassin's creed... and they continue to disappoint.

Question to owners of Prototype
When you consume and digusie yourself as a Soldier Is it enjoayble to go around with the other Soldiers and going on and fighting off the infected?
nope, not at all. I mean the idea is all well and good but against even the zombie infected the guns do jack, by all means steal a helicopter and maul the hell of the hordes but its so slow to walk around with the soldiers.

Personally i just morph into the sword and cut the shit out of everything, including the soldiers i pretended to be for a while - sure you get red alert but destroying helicopters is just fun.

I loved the game, but I also destroyed it in about a week. (All gold medals, multiple platinums, complete web of intrigue, all upgrades)

I'd say its a perfect rental, or pick it up used, but i wouldn't pay full price.

save your money and go with a rental. the story is disjointed, irrelevant and hard to follow, and gameplay is average at best. still a fun game to play, but with only 31 missions to the main storyline, its pretty short for a sandbox game.

definitely not game of the year material

If you think Prototype feels unfinished you shouldn't try No More Heroes- the reason I don't trust critic scores.

Prototype isn't the most sophisticated game but many (myself included) find fun in the endless amount of hacking & slashing (& pummeling & whipping & hurling....). Sure infamous is the better game but I personally had more fun with Prototype.

BTW it was made by the same people who made Hulk Ultimate Destruction, so my best advise is to pick that up for 5 bucks and if you dig that one, you'll definitely dig Prototype.

It seems very generic to me...
Run around the city, kill bad guys with special powers, jump off buildings, find random shit, etc...
Like a spiderman game with new weapons and bad guys.

I just finished it, and it was fun, and a breeze on normal. I think I only died 10 times. One of which was a bizarre car accident.

With the New Game+ mode, you'll have incredible replayability
Of course, you only get that when you've completed the campaign once. Once you've done that you know the story. So unless you don't mind having the same story thrown at you, or you didn't manage to unlock everything first time around, it's not all that great. Of course, if you don't mind either of those things, it's quite replayable; however, I wouldn't cite that as one of it's defining features.
Yes, but since it resets the level of infected and the amount of military deployment, it allows you to do more massacring. What I did was beat the game, and then work on all of the side quests, and the web of intrigue in the New Game+, with the occasional city wide destruction.
Why the FUCK did I get Infamous instead of this!? Damn You Suckerpunch DAMN YOU!
Personally, I'd stick with inFamous over this.

you can make policemen explode into pink mist by throwing them into thier own colleagues or cars.... you can rip old women in half vertically..... you can dive from the top of the empire state building (using either a peoples elbow style elbow drop, a cannon ball or a swan dive) causing mass carnage..... its well worth the money

Claws, Blade, Whipfist, Hammerfist > M4A1, Rocket Launcher, Grenade Launcher.

So I think you know what I'm getting at here:
Powers > Military Ranged Hardware.

I played it till almost the end. It's fun for like an hour, but once you realize you are doing the exact same thing a million times, it gets old really fast. I'd only buy it if you get it for $20-30. Just rent it. You'll be much happier that way.

I played the game, it's a whole lot of mindless violence,
running places just holding someone is quite fun
the missions are a little lame when I thought about it
the side missions are mostly timed events
oh and did I mention VIOLENCE!

Precisely. Prototype is an extremely derivative game with very little imagination. As such, I think it's overblown and overrated; there are much, much more comprehensive sandboxes out there as well.
Yeah but name one where you can eat people and steal there bodies, or sprint through the city with their screaming body in two, or karate kick a helicopter out of the sky, or grow all manner of weapons out of your body. What Prototype lacks in graphics, missions, or whatever may be the complaint; it makes up for it in it's unique brand of unrelenting visceral action. Not the best game ever, but good enough to warrant a purchase.
