In a way, that can be worse than a complete dick.

Maybe their PR department realised that shitting all over a commited member of the community who is operating an abandonware site might actually not be the best move. Not to mention that the whole abandonware thing is really a grey issue, if the games are not available from any other source and have not been for quite some time Activision could really be said to have let their copywrite lapse.

Not to mention many other companies have actively blessed much newer and bigger games with their own community releases (see; GTA, Elder Scrolls).
