Death Note; though I should mention that I loved Pokémon long before that and I also watched some Dragonball every now and then.

New Dominion Tank Police was my first real anime aside from Sailor Moon and Digimon type fare. Was staying up late (sneaking up late) and one of the eps came on during a midnight anime thing on old Space. It was exciting watching somethign new while sneaking up to be up late. It helped that the first time I wanted to rent an anime my dad said "Nope, thats all porn." Then Ghost in the Shell then Gundam Wing and Dragonball, by then I was entirely hooked and now I watch more anime than normal TV.
