I've watched a fair bit of anime, but I wouldn't call myself a 'fan' of it, more than I'd call myself a fan of any other form of animation.

I've seen:

Black Cat
Cardcaptor Sakura
Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card
Code Geass
Code Geass R2
Devil May Cry
Digimon Adventure
Digimon Adventure: Our War Game
Digimon Adventure 02
Digimon Adventure 02: Hurricane Touchdown!
Digimon Adventure 02: Revenge of Diaboromon
Digimon Frontier
Digimon Savers
Digimon Tamers
Fate/stay Night
FLCL
Kogepan
Magic Knight Rayearth
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
Mobile Suit Gundam
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
Rozen Maiden
Rurouni Kenshin
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Haruhi Suzumiya...whatever the hell the full title is.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
The Big O
Toradora!
xxxHolic
xxxHolic Kei

...That list is bigger than I thought it was.
I should probably finish by saying that I've watched just as much western animation. I just like animated series/movies in general, whether or not they're anime is irrelevant.

EDIT: Oh, shit, I forgot about my manga:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
xxxHolic
Shakugan no Shana
Rosario+Vampire
Pokemon Adventures
Devil May Cry 3

With it or against it? Am I with or against music? With or against video games? An odd question, as if the only answer was one or the other. You could say I'm with original, inspired anime and against cliched, cheesy anime.

I've watched a bit of anime. Only 4 series completely (Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Vision of Escaflowne, Pita-Ten and NGE), and a few episodes of a couple of others. My friend raved to me about Death Note, but after 5 episodes I realized I'd rather read it as a book. I don't actively seek out anime to watch because I'm not an active viewer, but I realize that it does sometimes offer interesting stories that would never ever be told in other media, so it's okay with me.

Favorite series: The Vision of Escaflowne.

I'm both an Anime & Manga fan and I guess I've seen & read a few in my day [http://myanimelist.net/profile/Master_M2K]. Not much but I guess it's enough to make me hardcore(^_^). Could care less if people enjoy the mainstream anime like Naruto and One Piece, because those are the kind of series that get people into anime. Me included.

For those who aren't bothered to click, my Top 5 are:

1) Full Metal Panic: TSR
2) Death Note
3) Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
4) Code Geass (season 1)
5) Legend of the Galactic Heroes

My Top 5 Manga has probably changed, so don't feel like giving it.

I have the ability to now and have a site I can go to but I've just lost interest. Then again I lose interest in many things when I get in a depression. Anyway the problem before was that many of the sites require things like Adobe and I have an Ipod Touch 3rd Gen so it was impossible for me to watch anything but YouTube. Posting on this site was difficult too.
What site is it you (would) use? I'm always looking to expand my list of streaming sites.

Nichijou (Top 5 anime Can't get enough of it)

School rumble (My god twas funny)
Haha! School Rumble is one of my favorites, and I saw episode one of Nichijou yesterday!

I'm currently catching up on One Piece (103 episodes in).

Personal favorite is Fullmetal Alchemist (2003). Brotherhood is good too, but I found more things I liked about the old one.

I also love Baccano, and Madoka is the newest addition to my favorites list.

EDIT: Sorry, my top 5:

1) Fullmetal Alchemist
2) Baccano
3) His and Her Circumstances
4) Rurouni Kenshin
5) Death Note

And I rarely read manga. Could never get the hang of reading right to left.

Ooooo~ Another Legend of the Galactic Heroes fan. We are a rare breed. :D
For now. I'd be willing to say it's a growing fanbase, due to the fact that pretty much anyone on the internet who's seen it goes on about how amazing it is. It's kind of interesting to think of a series taking 20+ years before it really develops a western fanbase, though.

Galactic Empire or FPA? Yang Fleet all the way, here.

- G Gundam
- Zoids Chaotic Century
- Dragon Ball Z
- .Hack Sign
- Dead Man Wonderland
- Hellsing Ultimate OVA

Err can't think of anything else....Though below is a list of anime I hate..

- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Bleach (oh Bleach...I used to love you, then your animation and story turned to crap)
- Seikerie
- Deathnote
- Rosario + Vampire

And thats it for all I hate.

Wow. We all learn a lot from the lists people write...
And I made a lot of judgements about most of these posters so far, mostly negative. Probably a case of glass house, because I'll be listing my favorites as well.

I gave a 10/10 to:

Cowboy Bebop
Nichijou
Nodame Cantabile
Gurren Lagann
FMA: Brotherhood
One Piece

Note: I originally gave One Piece a lower mental score, but the fact that I keep watching it over and over means I must like it enough to make it a 10, even if it's not the deepest anime around.

I have watched quite a lot of anime and read quite a bit of manga, but I can't say I'm a fan, no more then I'm a fan of american TV serials. It's just another potential avenue to waste time in, sometimes memorable, often tripe.

There are a few series that I really like, but they hardly make a dent in the absolute crap that gets pumped out.

Some of my favourites? Most of these are commonly, highly, regarded, some are just personal favourites for no particular reason:

*Evangelion, the old series and the rebooted movies.
*Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z for nostalgia reasons, a lot of the new series do what DBZ did better, but I grew up with DB and DBZ
*Full Metal Alchemist. The original Anime that deviates from the Mangas though, don't know why I prefer it from the original source.
*One Piece to a point, I haven't gotten back into it in a few years now, but I loved it when I had time to follow it.
*Ghost in the Shell 2nd gig. I much prefer it over Stand Alone Complex.
*Ghost in the Shell Movies, original and Innocence (the STC movie wasn't great)
*Paprika, only watched this recently, was pretty good.
*Red Line... pure style over substance, but massively entertaining.
*Clannad... for all the painfully childish romances, the series grew on me and the 2nd season was a real whopper.
*Most of Ghibli stuff, but Totoro, Mononoke, Porco Roso, Grave of the Fireflies, Moving Castle and Spirited Away are my personal picks.

I've watched a lot of other series and movies, and while I didn't dislike them, none of them really make me invested in Anime.

So no, not a fan, just have a casual interest.

There are a lot of holier-than-thous that think that wanting to read untranslated manga/novels and play pokemon games before they come to the US is a shitty reason to learn a language, but honestly, if that's what keeps you grinding kanji every day, that's what keeps you grinding kanji every day. That said...

Ohhh LoGH talk. I'll chime in if you don't mind. :)

Well, honestly I don't think it's really that surprising for a series that hasn't gotten a western release at all to only get popular now given the development of the Internet. I mean streaming services haven't been around that long and then factor in that you need a fan-sub to watch it if you don't speak Japanese and yeah....it took some time, but it's hopefully getting there. And without a doubt it really deserves it given for instance how easily it shot down my previous favourite ST:DS9 from the throne of space operas....

Also, Yang Fleet. Who likes that golden-haired brat anyway? >_>

I consider myself a "hardcore" anime watcher. I refrain from anime discussions here on the Escapist cause they usually can get pretty heated and annoying and whilst the escapist hasn't become any better than 4chan's /a/ board, I do what I can to not contribute to the bile build up.

And with glass houses concerned, I do admit I'm not perfect when it does come to the discussion. And deep down I feel as certain titles become popular it becomes harder to discuss them intelligently. Arguments relating to the depth or design of a series are as difficult as similar arguments relating to movies. However they are made more virolic because of fanbases that are inevitably created.

I've taken four Japanese classes, plus tutoring here and there. I just returned from a three month study abroad in Japan. I was practicing to become a translator, but I'm putting it on hold for now while I work other things.

Won't bother listing everything I've watched cause it would take a long time, according to my badly updated MAL I've watched over 453 days worth of anime.

Why not? If you're passionate about what you do, there's no shame.
