Open nerd. It's lonely at times cause we're a small population and most of my friends are not as interested in anime, figurines and gaming as me.

I'm a total closet nerd. I work as a poker dealer at a mini-casino and there I've got quite a reputation for partying too hard and just generally being a man-whore. It's mostly deserved.

Occasionally I'll bring a girl home: "Oooh, are those trophies? What the fuck is Star Wars CCG?"

or

I'll take a, "vacation," to, "visit friends." And I'm really traveling across the country to play card games competitively.

Well, I'm not a closet nerd since everyone that knows me pretty much knows I'm a nerd, but you may say I'm a closet person because nobody knows I exist and whenever I meet someone who I thought was my friend it turns out he doesn't remember me at all -_- and to top it off when I visited my parents neither them or my brothers recognised me, I mean they really had no clue who I was when I opened the door, so I've come to the conclusion that I am the single most forgettable person in the whole world, I mean I could die right now and nobody would ever identify the body if I wasn't carrying my ID.

My dry demeanor and lack of obvious enthusiasm doesn't quite resemble attributes of nerds. I also don't make many aspects of my self or my life obvious unless specifically asked. Even my work space at home doesn't reflect my interests or my personality in any way, outside of the controller on the desk.

So upon reflection, "probably, but not intentionally, and I'd make no effort to hide it if confronted about it".

I probably give off the impression. Not only do I seem to have a reputation for being a nerd without even saying anything, but I also have a reputation as a hard drinker (I drink quickly and don't mind what it is).

This led to someone telling me I was "secretly cool". I'm not entirely sure what that means.

Nope, I'm a redneck computer geek and proud of it! But I didn't have any one clique in high school I ran with more than others and didn't really have any problem hanging with any of them.

I was like that..especially in highshool

but aftwards I realised how awsome games, posters and action figures were...and what was the point of pretending to be normal?

its funny though, back in boarding school people seemed to think I knew about computers because I was always on them..when really I was just reading wikipedia, imdb, crackes and tv tropes for hours on end about anythign and everything..

I dont try and hide it, but I dont go on and on about it (ok I do with games..at every opertunity)

Back in high school I was kinda like that, and I played MTG with a few people I kinda knew during lunch.

Then college happened and I thought what I was doing was rather silly and just stopped caring. I've been told that I never looked like a nerd until I opened my mouth. I'm pretty open about it and I make nerdy references on a daily basis. A co-worker and I regularly nerd out and I remember my boss saying it's weird hearing two grown women gush about LoTR and Star Wars like we were talking about....whatever.

I'm a "closet nerd" in that at first glance you wouldn't guess at all about my gaming hobbies and how much i love computers/physics/astronomy/anime

but to people that DO know me, they know me as a big nerd for sure, and my friends are equally the same..BUT

i'm not that person that goes around "LOOK I'M A NERD, EVERYONE BASK IN THE FACT THAT I LIKE NERDY THINGS!"

no matter what "stereotype" you want to file under, i hate it when people do that.

I have 4 varsity letters on the swim team but my nerd-dom was pretty apparent. Just playing games and enjoying Star Wars doesn't really make you a nerd. You have to score pretty well in math and be pretty competent with computers ideally in a programming sense. It varies but something like that.

'Closet Nerd' describes my brother perfectly. He's the biggest Pottard I know, built his own gaming PC, and passionately nitpicks all the stupid little details concerning his favorite fictions. But all his friends ever see is the guy who loves working out and watching the Spurs play basketball while cracking wise at other nerd's expense. I called him out on it the other day, and he basically told me to shut up and quit being offended. It was kinda sad.

OT: Nope. I wear my Nerd Cred loud and proud. Why the Hell would I hide it? Being a nerd is awesome!

I know I'm a somewhat of a nerd, and I don't mind if people know that. But I am most definitely a closet anime fan. I refuse to acknowledge that I watch it to anyone who I don't know watches it.

You are not alone! I have been a "Closet Nerd" for years.

Although im approaching 30 and becoming more comfortable with it. "Coming Out" so to speak to my buddies and even to girls I meet.

I'm THE party guy.. I probably rival Ron Jeremy when counting how many hot women I have had the pleasure of knowing. I'm ex military and have done some of the craziest and coolest things a man can do on this planet. I am blessed with as many friends as a man could need and I have a social life that would make a good hollywood movie.

Yet for years I kept my Nerd side secret. I have turned down sex with beautiful women on multiple occasions and turned down weekends away with the guys on even more occasions....

Just to play a game... if a new release or update to a game was available for example.

But I wish I had always been honest with my friends and with ex girlfriends. If I could go back in time to my teenage years I would kick my ass and tell me to be true to myself.

If I had not hidden my nerd side I could have been happilly married to a beautiful nerd girl by now... sharing a perfect nerd life. Of course I still enjoy the other social aspects and there is most certainly room for both!

But alas I find myself still waking up beside shallow "party girls" who definitely do NOT know that Han Solo shot first!

I used to be I guess when I was around my select group of friends we'd talk nerd, but as I got older I started to get a larger variety of interests. When I was young it was just video games and nerd stuff. Now though I have a larger spectrum, so from talking to me about most things you probably couldn't tell I was a nerd unless you asked me specifically about it. Now though I'd rather talk about my other interest.

I guess when I first started getting new interests I realised that I probably came off as a massive nerd. So I was a pretty big closet nerd back then, now I just don't really ever talk about nerd stuff unless if its my close friends. So I guess its me hiding it but not on purpose.

I still like the whole nerd thing but I prefer to have other interests as well otherwise you end up having a very narrow view on things.

yeah in high school (America) I was a bit of a closet nerd. I was in track and soccer, worked out a lot and was an avid wannabe artist.

I wasn't all that big though nor was I Jock-ish so I guess people weren't that surprised to find out.. Being asian (filipino) prolly gets me some pre-conceived notions too.lol

After high school was done there really wasn't much sense in hiding the fact. Nobody would give a flying f**k in college.
