The Wii U isn't mindblowingly expensive and they've got to produce a high quality screen touch controller with extra power inside of it(I mean a phone with a smaller screen and worse power costs ?200+ there#s different technology, but they're not producing that controller for much under $100). I don't see why the next gen will be particularly outrageous. I could see it being cheaper than the last to be honest.

Yeah. I also know that a few years after there release the prices dropped significantly. I don't care what release prices are when I can can later go and buy one for much cheaper. I also tend to not pay much attention to arguments based on likely events with no evidence to support them actually happening. I'll reserve my full opinion until I see some hard numbers.

There have been a few arguments lobbed in this thread that will show themselves to be misconceptions.

One: Consoles provide a closed environment. Thus, game studios know exactly what they are getting, and that is why they can shoehorn in games. not alot of options, but they can still get things out.

Two: Console Companies know that what a console game is paying for, is convenience of not having to go through all of the setup. A PC, you have to go through alot of crap for some games, to get them running just right.

In both of these, the point is compromise. You compromise power for convenience. Now, the world is hurting financially, and everyone knows this. So, the next level of compromise? Compromise everything!

Console Corps: Use almost standard, off the shelf computer hardware to produce a less expensive machine.
Game Studios: Get to spend less money creating one game file that will reach multiple platforms. ALso, less money going out, means they can take chances on things they normally wouldn't.
Consumers: Win, because the prices of consoles and games go down.

That is what would happen in a perfect world.

Other thoughts: It doesn't matter if you are playing a game in 640x480, 720p, or 1080i if it's just another brown shooter. Want something that really shows off your hi res digital display? Get a 'crazy game' with 'crazy colors' and disco tech lights and what not. Something like Mario Paint on steroids. There are a few games such as this that have been produced this go through. Check them out. I bet you will weep through your war paint at what the homogenized game market has become in respects to 'photorealism'. It's obvious many of you don't ever go to the country side.

I forsee a steady increase in PC gaming into the next generation as this one becomes stale and old and the hassles of owning a console grow and grow and the benefits slowly diminish to the point where the PC cannot be ignored on any front except for price of entry.

And even then.

Nextbox/PS4 at £400?

Yeah I can build a gaming PC for that > > Probably perform about the same too.
Except what you think is going to happen is but a current pipe dream since consoles are still here and will continue to exist for the foreseeable future unless suddenly stated otherwise.

That and I remember you started a thread a while back about moving from a console to a better PC model mind you I'm still suffering the hassle of having my rig put together thanks to online delivery and lack of trusting knowledge that everyone doesn't seem to always have >.>.

At the end of the day a console is still as good as it can be if you're willing to respect it just like you would respect building and using your knowledge to build a pc.

I figure even when my rig is built by the end of Jan I'll still be splitting my time to play equally games on both the 360 and PC and will most likely do so with a Wii U in the future because I don't give 2 fucks about what's really "superior" or shiny or what is factually the most powerful because at the end of the day it doesn't really do nothing but maybe change a few peoples outlooks on technology or it does nothing and falls on death ears and as for myself I know what's in front of me and I know what it can do so I don't feel the irksome need to tell everyone else what to use and what not to use because that's for them to learn and decide.

Also as a last note are we done shitting on the Wii U yet people? because that's getting to be really tiresome and plain ignorant.

Oh I know that consoles aren't going anywhere any time soon, but I can see them declining a bit and a lot of my friends are moving to PC gaming for a variety of reasons, I've not explained my point very well, sorry.

I am indeed though I'm not sure anyone replied to that and if they did they didn't quote me so I didn't check back > > I'll split my time between my consoles and my PC but the balance is likely to shift as I favour the PC for multiplatform and/or multiplayer games beccause, as I said, thats where my friends are going. (Also the hassles of consoles use these days such as updates and installs and performance issues are things I won't have on PC so much tbh). I'll be keeping my consoles for their exclusives though, I love a lot of Sony's IP's and adore Nintendo IP's.

The Wii U looks like a lot of fun, I want one, will make a point of getting one in a year or so when the price drops a bit or you can get good bundles!

Anyway to simplify: I'm gonna be moving to PC as my main platform because the convenience of consoles is being steadily diminished, not to mention software prices are widening between PC and console games, and to a lesser though significant degree socialising factors in.

I am getting a Wii U, will likely have a PS4, it's just that my PC will become my main gaming hub.

Except my DS/3DS around a pokemon launch :3

Edit: My uber gaming rig is on hold because I don't have a job as of January 6th :\ so for now I'll be on my 3.0GHz E5700 and Radeon HD4770.... it's not great, but it gets the job done, in some cases it does it better than my PS3 (Skyrim > >....)

EDit: Yeah let's stop ragging on the Wii U. It's more powerful than your 360, you don't have to use the tablet controller, it comes with a "proper" controller. Deal with it.

I've gotten cheaper as I've gotten older - I think $300 for PS3s right now is way too expensive. I doubt I'll want to pay $300 for a new system when it comes out. I think I'll be watching Let's Plays for Ni No Kuni and The Last of Us.

I expect they'll be around $400 to start when they release the new systems, but that's far too expensive for me these days. Unless it comes out on PC (I just built a top of the line one in September, that was expensive enough for a few years), I won't be playing it.

I'm thinking they'll either let the prices stay as they are now or increase them again. Which is strange since the world's economy is in the shitter. It's funny how people who live to make money as fast as they can end up screwing their own business over. "What? The world economy is a walking corpse? Raise the prices I say!! Quick GreedyMcBlingobler! To the Dumbfock mobile!"

My only problem is me waiting on my current mobo since I've got my 1st gen i7 along with a 9800 GTX (going to upgrade to a 660ti when I get a job and more cash flowing)and a 550w power supply along with a big enough case (looks almost like a coolmaster one but cost me £50)and around 12 gigs DDR3 ram (yeah that's pretty much overkill but it's the set left over from my roomies rig build and he offered.

But last time I checked mobos don't take up to 3 months to deliver which is making my doubt both my roomie and the company he ordered it from.

I have the cash for mine now but I just don't wanna spend the 900£ ish without income coming in is my problem. It shouldn't take that long to deliver a motherboard.... if it was delivered by HDNL it could be stolen off the top of your car where they left my 3TB WD Black HDD > > Was. Not. Amused. On the plus side, it wasn't damaged and I claimed it was stolen/lost and got a second one free.

I'm going with a i7 3770K with a moderate overclock (like 4.4GHz), and a 660ti of some kind, either the MSI Power Edition (which has pretty much the top performance of the 660ti's) or the 3GB EVGA FTW+... Also 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3, for y'know, overkill.

My current PSU is only a shitty 350W one that came with my desktop :') I have no idea how the hell it's running my PC beyond magic and fairy dust right now.

As for the case, for a little bit more you could snag yourself some of Fractals sexy black boxes, take a look on Scan they're really nice cases, especially if you want something a bit more unassuming and less stuffed full of pointless LED's.

Thus we come to one of the major reasons why I have little to no interest in the next console generation.
The next? Hell, I've lost interest in this generations consoles. The last time I used my Xbox was about two weeks ago to play some Hexic HD before going to bed. And, before that, the last time I used my Xbox was...maybe mid September?

Also, I'm so glad I stopped paying for Live. Though, admittedly, it was nice to see that Microsoft fixed the party/messaging systems and decided to not completely fuck up the Dashboard UI and flood it with adverts.

You know, now that you mention it the last time I used my Xbox was to watch a DVD and even then it was a couple weeks ago.
So yeah even this generation hasn't really enthralled me nearly as much as previous ones.

the wii u is playing safe and will clash sooner than expected at his limits since the wii u is slightly better than the wii. and the wii has been on life support for almost a year.

i am sure we will see in the next 2-3 years another, gimicky upgraded wii clone from nintendo.
the difference is that they most likely can afford announcing every 2 year a new plattform since they also have the handheld market in their palm and only have to concentrate on one market unlike the other two who have more pressure since they also have to deal with hardware and software outside gaming.
The Wii U.

Still four times as powerful as the Wii.

Still twice as powerful as the other current-gen consoles.
