A small splinter group of christians, led by Harold Camping(who also predicted this would happen in 1994) has predicted the apocalypse on May 21 at 6:00 P.M.(local time), a claim which they say is based on
1)The 7,000 anniversary of Noah's flood
2)The 13,023 anniversary of creation, and that
3)Supposing that Jesus Christ was killed on April 1st in the year 33 A.D., which would make May 21st the 722,500th day after his death(I did the math and, taking into account leap years, it's actually around 722,514 days, which would make this part of the argument invalid.), which is the product arrived at with the equation (5x10x17)^2. According to Camping, five means "atonement", ten "completeness" and 17 "heaven"(although what that "squared" is doing there is anybody's guess). The group seems to be hanging up billboards to warn everyone of the impending end of the world.

How many different days is the world supposed to end in the next year or so? I think this makes somewhere in the neighborhood of five, and none of them are right, and the fact that people are absolutely positive every time that this crap crops up is astounding to me. How many times does someone have to be wrong before they realize they're acting a fool?

Also anyone that tries to solve one dogmatic doomsday prophecy with exacting math using an estimate as the main variable really shouldn't be so sure of themselves.

What he said.

Also, I've always wondered: If you're certain of the apocalypse, why tell everyone? Just causes unnecessary worry and suffering...

This guy wants us to know so that when the day comes, we should repent as the sinners we are and as a broken people, beg for God's forgiveness and mercy.

My sister's getting married on that day, and if the planning is anything to go by, there is no fucking way she'll let the world end before the evening do even starts

But...I thought God forgives us anyway? Hmm...

Since the Bible says "However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows." Matthew 23:36

The day someone predicts is by definition the one day it cannot be. This is the same guy who predicted the end in 1978. Yeah

lol. Dudes crazy.

It saddens me greatly that there are families with kids spending the last of their money to "get the word out" baiscly as a sign of faith in this date. Very sad.

What exactly is the point of all these doomsday prophecies? If one of them is actually right, it's not like anyone will be left for you to say "I told you so". Just seems like such an empty thing to bother with. If you really need it as motivation to live life to the fullest, then it's time to re-evaluate your life

Make that six because i just figured out that tommorow it's exactly 10.000.00 years since the earth got hit by a very large meteor so therefore another one will be 10.000.00 times bigger and we will all be destroyed!!! MARK MY WORDS!!!

On topic: Ofcourse it's not going to end... it have been said hundreds of times now that the world will end on this day because it says so in my calender!
Everyone can make something up and yell it out loud and some people will think it's true.

Aparrently not. Aparrently, God is angry for Humanity's sins. Aparrently, he wants to destroy the world, as he was believed to have already done thousands of years ago. Doesn't matter anyways, I don't believe in any of it.

It's probably meant to scare people into attending church more often. That's my guess.

Oh, this nonsense again.

Given how much advertising it's apparently getting in the USA, I think the churches putting up the ads should be fined ten times what they paid for the ads in the first place as a penalty for false advertising if proven wrong.

Yes, I said "if", just in case by some astronomically slim chance they turn out to be right about the world ending. I don't want anyone calling me a liar, after all.
