So conservative political commentator Glenn Beck thinks Watch_Dogs will teach people how to hack in real life...Here's a quote:

"This game is teaching you to hack into whatever is docked in your bedroom. What the heck is wrong with us? What are we thinking? We are inviting this into our home and our lives. We are teaching our kids for entertainment purposes"

What do you guys think?

I think he gets all his hacking info from shows like CSI and NCIS.

This is why listening to celebrities talk (especially the "political" ones like Beck/Bill O'Reily/Nancy Grace/Bill Maher/"insert talking head here") is never ever ever ever ever ever ever *breath*......EVER a good idea.

EDIT: I added Nancy Grace and Bill Maher to the loony political commentators. I seriously thought Beck was a left-wing political nutter butter like O'Reilly is to the right but I was wrong and I want to make sure ALL directions of political commentary get covered by my hate :)

They don't know what the hell they're talking about. The few times they're accidentally right was completely non-intentional and should not be seen as proof that they can be right. Celebrities are stupid people and their opinions should be treated as such.

There is only one actual hack on Glenn Beck's program, and it's the guy behind the microphone.

That user said it best I think.

If there's anything that might be a detriment to kids, it's games like Bioshock Infinite encouraging kids to eat sandwiches out of the trash [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0lyqEGcNAU].

Okay now THAT is funny.

Sometimes I wonder if Glenn Beck is some kind of Borat-style performance piece.

What do I think? Well, I think Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal said it far better than I ever could.

Seriously, media almost never accurately portrays hacking - of the programming variety - simply due to how tedious, limited and time consuming it is. He might as well be saying that Spore teaches animal husbandry.

No... Just no.

If you can just press X to hack everything in real life than yes, it teaches you how to hack.

He then went on to blame Obama for his government program mandating hacking in games, which he tied to 9-11 and the use of fillings as mind-control transmitters by the lizard people who live at the center of the earth.

I mean, seriously, we care what he says why?

Bwahahahaha, I loved that movie. So over the top.

On topic, though, well...did we actually get over the "Slot machine hacking" for passwords yet? Oh, and hackers being a breed of human that lives exclusively in dimly lit basements...

Where was this guy when THIS came out?

Don't forget Wargames, Swordfish, Sneakers, Skyfall (which probably gave Watch Dogs a run for its money near the climax)...and I'd just love to see his reaction to Sherlock's season two finale "The Reichenbach Fall" now that he's gone and made that comment.

Probably a point to be made in that it glamorizes hacking, and will probably encourage some kids to take interest in it.

but Glenn Beck is hardly relevant anymore.

Why does the american media still have a boner over video games?

It always makes me laugh when they say "X video game encourages people to shoot up schools" then someone will reply "dont you think it would be a good idea if we stopped these people having firearms instead" then they'll reply "the constitution". They are happy to take away a game which may cause someone to shoot someone (a very remote chance) rather than something that can be used to shoot someone

Its almost like any old idiot can be a political pundit in america...oh wait we had Joey Barton and Piers Morgan as political pundits the other day

Its bad when Joey Barton is the voice of reason in a political debate

Curiousity strikes! From behind, for a critical bonus! It's super effective!

So anyway, what is that game?

Does it teach you how to hack in the same way that other games teach you how to avoid death by pressing a button (or sequence of buttons) in a limited amount of time?

It's <link=http://www.gog.com/game/uplink_hacker_elite>Uplink. It's basically a Hollywood Hacker game with a surprisingly awesome story attached, crazy tension levels, and permadeath.

It's made by the same people who did Darwinia and Prison Architect. While there's a somewhat limited number of things to do, it's still totally worth a playthrough.

I don't hate Glenn Beck, in fact I used to watch him back when he was on the air. But yea, we're in agreement that he's being fucking stupid. But why why why why why why why *deep breath* WHY must somebody turn this into some misdirected attempt to take the piss out of the entire media/right-wing agenda/ celebrities every time ONE person says something stupid?

I also don't understand your "the fact that they're sometimes right doesn't mean they're not always wrong" logic, that seems about as contradicted as can be. Have we really reached the point where we can't simply talk shit about whoever said the dumb thing, but use it as an excuse to vomit out our blanket political views where they don't belong?

Also, O'Reily goes hard.
