Oh god, this guy is so stupid it actually hurts.
Quote:

No. Just NO. It makes it harder to look stuff up that you remember about the book, but it doesn't make it harder to actually remember the book itself, you stupid idiot.

Honestly I liked the piece as it's so retarded that it just becomes funny. I could not help but keep laughing at the stupid things he said.

Nah man, it's for real! I hacked my bed last night, and it blew up my house!!! Three people died! Then I hacked the neighbour's driveway, and their house blew up! THEN I HACKED A TREE, AND HALF THE TOWN BLEW UP! But I couldn't stop myself, I had to keep going man, I had to keep going! Then I saw my robe... And, oh God...

I don't hate Glenn Beck, in fact I used to watch him back when he was on the air. But yea, we're in agreement that he's being fucking stupid. But why why why why why why why *deep breath* WHY must somebody turn this into some misdirected attempt to take the piss out of the entire media/right-wing agenda/ celebrities every time ONE person says something stupid?

I also don't understand your "the fact that they're sometimes right doesn't mean they're not always wrong" logic, that seems about as contradicted as can be. Have we really reached the point where we can't simply talk shit about whoever said the dumb thing, but use it as an excuse to vomit out our blanket political views where they don't belong?

Also, O'Reily goes hard.
There's nothing wrong with informing your opinion based off of celebrities/talking heads. The problem that I see in doing so is that so many people base their ENTIRE opinion off of celebrities/talking heads. This is why when you Google "Vaccination", opinions on how it causes autism STILL pop up due to people listening to a celebrity who knows dick about what the hell they're talking about.

I did turn the snarkiness up to 11 with my post so I should have clarified on who I was mocking with it.

Wow thats hysterical. It's like he watched hacking in a movie where he just saw the hacker furiously typing and code was racing across the screen. Yeah, cause thats how it happens. TBH I kinda hate that because I'm a CS major and I just look at stuff like that and go "Seriously? You aren't going to include the massive amounts of frustration in this scene? What about the millions of warning and errors?"

Curiousity strikes! From behind, for a critical bonus! It's super effective!

So anyway, what is that game?
It's <link=http://www.gog.com/game/uplink_hacker_elite>Uplink. It's basically a Hollywood Hacker game with a surprisingly awesome story attached, crazy tension levels, and permadeath.

It's made by the same people who did Darwinia and Prison Architect. While there's a somewhat limited number of things to do, it's still totally worth a playthrough.
God, I remember Uplink. That was really fun. It really was 'Hollywood Hacking' though, since I then tried the Hacker Evolution games and they were...noticably harder. x.x

OT: A conservative pundit is out of touch with reality. In other news: The pope is still catholic. Conservative blowhards like Hannity and Beck are basically walking punchlines to anyone that doesn't listen to them. I even know plenty of conservatives that don't like them. I'll just say this: Isn't it strange that someone who believes the government shouldn't tell people what to do is advocating that the government exercise control over how people amuse themselves?

First, I'd ask "What's wrong with hacking stuff?" but then I am immediately reminded of Is Your Son A Computer Hacker? [http://www.adequacy.org/stories/2001.12.2.42056.2147.html] and now, I'd rather ask that instead.

Of course it is - they would not show lies in the movies, would they?

Maybe movie hacking has a point - perhaps it's a DoS attack - by typing in code, you are causing the server to compile it. Errors are for extra points, since errors would also fill up the logs with stack traces. Now, of course, only some sort of a cross between a lunatic and a lobotomized monkey would set up a system that allows this to happen, however, interestingly it's still a better explanation than whatever happens in the movies.

I actually own that game, but I never completed it or got that far in...for a rather fucking embarrassing reason too. I forgot my in game password. Think that's a god sign I'm not a very good hacker.

That would be more accurate, but a lot more boring to watch. It's also why people recover from wounds faster in movies and why characters with psychological issues tend to have it all stem from one thing in their life: It makes a better narrative and is easier for the audience to follow. Real hacking is alot more fun to actually do in person than to watch it on screen, so they have to embellish and change things to make it look decent on camera. Same goes for sex and porn, funnily enough.

You... you can... uh... just click on your name beside the login box... and it automatically enters your name and... password...

Why does the american media still have a boner over video games?
Because for most people who make up the American media, videogames are something from the next generation that they don't understand. Mix that with the fact that they simply do not understand them and you've got yourself a confused and thus angry crowd.

It's the same old story as it has been forever. It's just that the last century has seen such an insane growth of technological development the generational gaps are bigger than ever.

Didn't the utter smeghead say he'd retire from stunts like this? Of course, his "apology" was a farse all the way through, but it must've taken him five whole minutes to think of, odd to see him throw all that Herculean effort away.

Im not saying that american media is worse than british media (you guys fortunately dont have the daily mail or the sun) but british media is pretty complementary of video games.

Take all the backlash that the american (and to some extent british) right wing media has ever given GTA. Now read this article (at least the headline) from the BBC and its a refreshing change

I was wondering which USA-based, right-wing lugnut would make this claim first! Whenever I worry about the berks we have making statements in the UK, I comfort myself with the knowledge that America has it so much worse than us!

Then again, the USA also has Bill Maher, a man so funny and passionate I feel like the UK should steal him. Can't wait to see what he has to say about this!
