Owned.

OP is hypocritical.

Most people who write on the forums post really long and well thought out comments. It makes me nervous about whether my short, stupid comments are looked down upon.

Also there is a language barrier, it is much harder to post long and insightful comments in a foreign language.

Speaking of lurkers, you have been on The Escapist for 8 months and only 53 comments?
I refer all of you to post # 15.

Please get over yourselves.
Calm down.

It feels as if you think being called a lurker is an insult. I didn't intend to insult you in any way.

Sorry if I pissed you off.

if i can't think of anything to add that won't get me modded, i won't post.

also, if most Escapists ARE lurkers, you'll probably never know, because they probably won't tell you so now :p

I'm not specifically a lurker. I can be on some days. It's really more mood dependent than anything.

I know I have a reasonable post count but that goes back ages and I spend a lot of time on here (like, shitloads) but don't post that much "per thing I look at" if that makes any sense.

I commonly fall to the curse of the ninja. Usually my thoughts have already been expressed far more eloquently than I could ever achieve.

But I reply every time I think I have something to add to the thread.

now, if you'll excuse me...

*lurk lurk lurk*

Some poelpe just enjoy it and feel like what they would contribute to a thread and say isn't a good enough read or has already been said. Or they just enjoy a good read.

I come on there some days and don't reply to any threads but enjoy a good read of them and lurking the website/forum.

I don't lurk too much... if I don't think I'll be able to contribute I don't even click on the thread... I wish it would show you who is lurking though.

Get outta here with that crap. In those eight months I've either been A)working at a sleepaway camp up in the Catskills, or B) in the rainforest at a research station.

So it wasn't like I was lurking for eight months, I simply was never online, because I didn't have the time or I simply didn't have access to the internet. Since I've been home, I've been on the Escapist regularly.

Why don't you think a little before you assume.
My humble apologies for not automatically assuming, with no point of reference, that you were just inactive for a long time and not doing what you were complaining about in the first place.

If it's a topic of interest, and I have the time to share my thoughts, I tend to reply. However, if my point of view is already stated by other users multiple times, I don't exactly feel the need to say it again. I'm not dedicated to posting 100% of the time on The Escapist (so much content, so little time!), and I'm sure everyone else isn't either. Some days I lurk, some days I give my two cents.

What were you doing there? Yelling at all the trees?

Also, are you asking for more replies in this thread, or threads in general?

Most threads have an interesting title, but fail to deliver in the opening or the idea. Some threads present information with little discussion. Others are just fun to lurk.

I rarely have anything to add to a topic, and I won't post until I've read the whole thing to make sure I'm not repeating what someone else said. If the topic gets to be 17 pages long, then I stop reading before the end and don't post either. Unless it's really interesting.

Yet I spend quite a lot of time on the forums. There are some interesting discussions that are fun to read, and even the trolls are more articulate than on other forums I've seen.

I think a lot of those threads have a few replies, because people read the replies and see what needs to be said has already been said

Such rage...
Is lurking a shameful thing now?

Eh, I lurk unless I find something that I feel like I can make an interesting/contributing comment on. I suppose, in some sense, I lurk: because I'll visit quite a few topics, read them briefly through, and then go, "Eh, nothing I can contribute here," and move on without responding. I'm sure there are probably a few other people like me, too.
this is why i don't post anything because someone usually says it better

I mostly lurk, I chime in when I feel it is necessary but usually someone has already said what I was going to, and it seems unnecessary for me to say something like "^this" or "ninja'd". I like to add to discussion or just not bother.

Also this is my 300th post in over a year, which goes to show how much of a lurker I am.

EDIT: interestingly I have just done what I have just said I don't like to do, but in this situation it seems justified.

A lot of the time I just like to see what people have to say, I can rarely think of something worthwhile to post... :/
