So...are most Escapist users lurkers?

"Lurker"? I guess I never really thought of it that way. There are just some topics that looked interesting but weren't really worth replying to and some that I couldn't think of how to reply to.

I only lurk if there's either nothing I can contribute, a distinct lack of interest on my part, or if the only thing I can think of to say has been stated many times before...

If you see me with 40 post by the end of the month will be a miracle.
Holy crap, 40 in 1 month? I've been a member for about a year now, I've made maybe 10 posts.

OT: yeah, that's right I'm a lurker, but what can you do? By the time you find a thread all the good stuff has already been said.

EDIT: also this

That was a really accurate description of what I do, you sure we're not the same person?

If I don't have anything to say, or if it's already been said, I don't post. I'll often start typing something, realize nobody cares, and decide to forget about it.

See, I consider a small amount of quality posts better than a huge number of worthless posts.

Ok... I'm going to reply this thread.... But I still don't know WHY I actually opened this thread, I was watching Zero Punctuation from the beginning (Yes, I'm new to it, omgwtfbbqimdead) and just clicked in it... didn't even knew it was a forum thread... boo-gart!

I just like reading what others have to say. I'll only add my input if I feel like it.

I do it a few times. I type up a response, but don't think it's worthwhile or I simply don't know what I'm saying, or I'm just not interested in the topic.

While I try to post there are times when I feel that the point has gotten across, and I can't put it into words any better myself.

I always post in a thread unless I have nothing to say. Which is very, very rare.

...What do you call a half lurker? Lurkee? Lurkah?

But I basically lurk every part of the site apart from 3 sunken FG's which I'm kinda active on. I keep my random goofiness to the threads that welcome goofiness with open arms.

Well I lurked the site in 08 until I joined in 09. But I do lurk more again since I see more negativity more often. Except for some sunk forum games I'm in I don't post as much as I used to.

I only contribute if the thread catches my attention. I'm not a lurker, I'm a Forum Gamer... >_>

Please, bring random goofiness to my threads! I welcome it!

It happens on every forum.

I do it myself. I just like to read about some topics, but I don't often have something to say. Or I have to go do something else. Or I decide I'm too lazy to post a reply and close the tab.

But I don't get the people who say "I lurked on the Escapist for 10 years before I joined!" I mean...what? Why? Are you really that bored that reading a forum full of nitwits talking about something, without any input from yourself, no way to immerse yourself in the discussion and contribute something, is really exciting enough to keep you coming back, time and time again?

I've really sort of extricated myself from most posting opportunities. I rarely post unless I feel I have something insightful to say or moderately funny, which, you know... *looks at post count to total time ratio*.

I will NEVER post to defend myself or my ideals and opinions, because I've come to the conclusion that exceedingly few people really WANT me to do so. Forums are for talking, it seems, and not listening. There have been countless occasions where I've seen a post or "opinion" that I've desperately wanted to fight against, but have stopped myself on the basis that it will solve nothing.

I just take a deep breath, shake my head, and tell myself it's not worth it.

Yup. Usually goes like this. First I watch whatever video on the site then, if there's an interesting topic I'll read it.
I read OP, then maybe I'll think that I can offer a meaningful reply in one way or another.

Then I read the rest of the posts where someone has of course gotten into a meaningless fight over a simple misunderstanding. No one will admit fault of course cause internet e-peen is super important.

There will also be a post I find downright disturbing such as proposing criminals should work as slaves or that they should be executed to save tax payers the burden.

Blatant disrespectful attack on other people's beliefs are also prominent.

Then there's the people who zealously jump onto any chance at calling somebody else a bigot, racist or anti-semite.

Then there's the bigots, racists and anti-semites.

Then I realize I'm outnumbered and that I'm wasting time, so I gtfo.
Even though many of you are very intelligent. The crazy, stupid and angry on the internet scare the hell outta me.
