Ummm... You know, what's funny is, in FC5, you're actually battling these "christian" rednecks with other rednecks and a dyed-in-the-wool christian preacher.

Probably because they are a safe target with little to no backlash, and are more relatable to an American audience.

I'd like to see a more creative nemesis, but given how creatively bankrupt Ubisoft (just in relation to Farcry 5), it's probably going to be another copy-pasted PoS game anyways. Maybe this time they won't copy the map over between games.

Can you imagine the shit they would get if they chose any other religious ideology as the baddies, come on now.

This thread kind of reminds me of that weird theory about how whether zombies or vampires are the trendy horror villains at the time correlates with whether the left or right is in power. That zombies represent the fears of the right as a massive mindless hoard that does nothing but consume and tear down the thinking humans, and vampires represent the fears of the left as isolated, unholy, and powerful elites that need to prey on the common man to survive.

Rednecks? Eh they have been an easy target for a while now, Point Lookout comes to mind as a refference point.

Religious people are limited to christians as you point out in your OP however, after all EVERYONE knows islam is the religion of peace and as such it can't be mocked.
Poe is that you?

Because if not, where have you been the past decade+ where middle eastern and/or "brown" people have been default baddies (alongside the usual Russians)?

Huh.

So what does it mean that during the recent time when the left was in power in the USA a whole bunch of people decided that they really, really wanted to fuck sexy vampires?

As everyone else was saying, Rednecks/religious people been the "boogeymen" for ages by this point. Although, I do have a bit of a concern with Resident Evil 7 being included in that.

The game actually pretty explicitly shows and tells you that they were actually a pretty normal, nice, friendly family, whom just were changed by "something"(this isnt a spoiler btw, it kind of tells you this less than an hour in with a video tape section). It wasn't until the introduction of
Eveline and her molded. On a side note, only one of the family member's was a bit psychopathic to begin with.
that they changed into who they are by the time you start the game.
