Oh lordy. This is just stupid to me. Eventually this will get to the point where they'll have to ban cell phones or anything else that can distract you while your out in public.

Banning self-harmful activities is so counterproductive. We want a smarter, better, and safer society, right? What's wrong with letting the dumb ones weed themselves out?

Seriously? Banning the use of phones and texting while driving is one thing (and actually logical), but banning people who are merely walking near a street from listening to music is something that doesn't even make sense. The Pedistran always has the right of way, the driver should be paying extra attention to them and should react accordingly.

Also, I have never heard of an Ipod or any music playing device that would stop me from hearing the horn of a car. Unless I'm playing it on full blast (Which I don't for a number of reasons), I can usually hear everything around me just fine. Not to mention that eyes still work.

On one hand, I think its stupid because I can handle texting and driving (Namely because I type my text while driving at something like 8 words a minute on a qwerty keyboard, spending more time looking at the road than at the phone).

On the other hand, I've seen so many accidents caused by texting and talking on the phone, I just want to outlaw everything.

Better solution: require all car manufacturers to install bluetooth receivers into all new cars, and all phone companies to pre-install voice to text software.. A decade or so from now, problem solved.

EDIT: As for the other activities mentioned... I don't know. On one hadn, the potential rules are stupid. On the other hand, people are retarded and need to be saved from themselves.

I'll lean on the 'let people win darwin awards' side of the fence.

No laws should be necessary to protect the idiots that they're meant for.
Just let those people be hit by cars, why ban cell phones and ipods for everyone?

Oh come on. When they put those headphones in, they know the risks. If they want to do it, and they aren't hurting anybody but possibly themselves, how is it the place of the state to stop them? I mean really.

Are the people who support this shit even human? Do they ever stop and look at what they're pushing for and think "Wow, this is really stupid and makes no sense" seriously, what is wrong with people?

I think it's the collateral damage to those who aren't dumb, but just unlucky.
Though I am convinced that modern society has abolished natural selection...

Yup. We should sterilize the people who are deemed to have harmful genes capable of passing on to future generations. Not neutering, just sterilizing; they can keep having their sex.

For those of you who keep saying how much of a dumbass the people who supported this are, picture the following scenario:

You're driving along at 40-45 mph, when suddenly a pedestrian walks into the middle of the road right in front of you. There isn't enough time to stop before you reach him, so you swerve to the side... into oncoming traffic. Suddenly you and possibly the people in the car that hit you are injured or dead, because some dumbass pedestrian wasn't paying attention to where they were.

The law isn't just about protecting the idiots, it's about protecting the innocent people who encounter them.

I agree. The joggers here are really just incidental casualties of well-meaning lunatics who have way too much power. Also, yes, it saddens me to think that the only reason we're likely at the pinnacle of our evolution is because we've sterilized our environment into being incapable of pushing us onward. I've been wanting compulsory sterilization for society for years - you know, just a quick and reversible chemical castration whenever puberty kicks in. Unfortunately, way too many people think this would be bad for society. Unconstitutional, or something.

Yeah... driving distracted is perfectly fine to outlaw, as far as I'm concerned, but walking distracted?

...I really don't think the law should protect us from our own stupidity, only other people's...
