Banning texting while driving is sensible and logical whereas texting while walking is a tad extreme. I mean there should be advertising telling you to be careful but making it illegal is too far.

You might as well ban reading books while walking.

This shit is going down in Arkansas no less. I thought they were the fun state! It won't pass, just some a couple of lone Democrats who wants to run more peoples lives for them.

For those of you who keep saying how much of a dumbass the people who supported this are, picture the following scenario:

You're driving along at 40-45 mph, when suddenly a pedestrian walks into the middle of the road right in front of you. There isn't enough time to stop before you reach him, so you swerve to the side... into oncoming traffic. Suddenly you and possibly the people in the car that hit you are injured or dead, because some dumbass pedestrian wasn't paying attention to where they were.

The law isn't just about protecting the idiots, it's about protecting the innocent people who encounter them.
Whatever to happen to, "Shit happens"? Why do people need to be constantly babysat by the Government? At what point does this stop? When were all wearing padded safety gear and the name United States of America is changed to the United Safer States of America? To quote a author.

"What if this safety trend continues? What will it be like in another fifty years? How safe do we want to be? Will sneezing in public be considered assault? Will tricycles have airbags? Will overweight people be sent to forced-labor diet farms? Will kitchen knives bear warning labels? (Caution: This implement can cause cuts!) Will French fries be as illegal as crack cocaine?"

Next thing you'll know is that they'll ban people from having passengers in the car cause 'that's a distraction' or maybe ban the radio or air conditioning. And you cannot talk while walking you must come to a complete stop before conversation.

Pretty sure deaf and blind people are worse off than someone wearing an ipod or texting.
So whats going to happen to them?

I find it kinda interesting that it is sought of rational but completely stupid at the same time. Yes they very well may stop some guy walking in front of a car but at the same time completely stupid in the inconvenience it gives everyone.

i mow the lawn with music blaring, i can still hear the mow if something goes wrong etc

For as stupid as this law is, what is epically more moronic is the notion that people are so enamored and entranced by their shiny baubbles that they cant even handle walking without causing problems.

I say forget the ban and if someone is involved in a walking collision due to paying attention to their electronic device, just shoot them then and there. I promise you were not loosing the cure for cancer.

While I agree with this law to a point, I also believe if someone is so distracted that they walk onto a road without paying any attention to whats going on around them they probaly shouldn't have any fancy gadgets to distract them or be just left alone to create more entries in the darwin awards.
